Mila's lived her whole life with one goal: destroying the upir, and sometimes their lesser evil cousins, vampires. She's fought and trained for almost all of her eighteen years so that she'd be ready to lead the Ouroboros order, a society of hunters that has been around since Dracula was known simply as Vlad the Impaler. She's successfully executed many kills, led hundreds of hunting parties, and honed her abilities as a runemaster. But something's coming, something that even a life like Mila's couldn't prepare her for. Hunters are dropping all around her, and monsters are doing the unheard of. Working together.
Rogen's second life has been about one thing: protecting his people. He's long since accepted his role in the vast supernatural world, and what's more, he's learned to relish in the power. Which is why it pisses him off so much when something shows up announced, screwing with the order of things. With only one option left to him, Rogen undergoes the unthinkable, guising himself as a moroi hunter in the Ouroboros order. There was a time when he respected their services, but having been corrupted some centuries back, his opinion of them has since altered. He's going to have to convince them to join forces if they're ever going to stop whatever's coming. The only problem is, doing so might actually be more impossible than stopping the biggest evil the world's ever seen.
Librarians, please don't add books. I stay up to date and add them myself and have ended up with many multiple copies because others add them later. Thank you!

I luckily won this ebook in a giveaway from the author which turned out to be a fantastic read. The opening drew me in immediately as I instantly liked the protagonist, Mila, who proved to be a terrific character that stood her ground throughout the novel and was never reduced to a boring damsel in distress as she was incredibly skilled, strong and clever. In fact, it was her, that usually calmed down the situation and validated her worthiness and calibre on numerous occasions, striking down enemies without a sweat and was only dependant on herself. Gavril, her protector, was likeable at the start but he soon unraveled to be annoying and overly possessive, although I clearly understood why as it was his job to protect her from any danger. I really did hate him towards the end but the fact an author can make you feel that is a good sign for me because you're summoning your own feelings on a character.
Rogen was definitely an intriguing character who had a mysterious quest to fulfill which is only uncovered about three quarters of the way in, which turned out to be a great twist with only a slightly predictable aspect. He was also written beautifully as he was complex and held a lot of compelling truths. The Death squad members like Calhoun, were an entertaining addition and proved useful instead of acting as plot and dialogue fillers.
The concept of moroi, vampires and uprirs was wonderful and they were perfectly woven into the story with enough detail and background. Minor details were also well thought through like the pound cake which was eaten to up moroi's strength as they required small amounts of blood. The plot went in the right directions with several unexpected twists that were just like "What! Seriously! I did not see that coming!" and left me slightly upset or dumbfounded at times as I really enjoyed some of the smaller aspects and characters. The change of perspective between Rogen and Mila also added to the quality of the writing. Also, towards the end there's some exceptional surprises.
However, there were a few grammatical errors especially towards the start like plastic instead of plasters and some sentences that were hard to understand as the expression wasn't clear. Sometimes, what was going on wasn't clear to the point where I had to go back a few pages to try and comprehend it or it seemed a bit ridiculous like the interrogation scene. A few scenes were a bit boring too and caused me to zone out and parts of the dialogue were really cliche. The love triangle became irritable at parts too, especially the possessiveness between the two men who kept acting like Mila was an object that they could take off of each other. Maybe, this was done on purpose to highlight their silliness but it was frustrating to read through.
Overall, this was a great book that definitely deserves a high spot in the paranormal genre as it had a brilliant plot with many unseen turns and twists tied in with attractive ideas and some engrossing characters. I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in the paranormal genre as this book doesn't disappoint. I will definitely be getting the sequel.
I would like to thank Tempest C. Avery for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for a review.
I started reading Bone Deep this morning and had it finished a few hours later because once I started I just couldn't stop! Although this novel was completely different from Tempest's normal writing, it was still incredible! Bone Deep, which features several creatures such as vampires, moroi, witches and demons was extremely captivating and filled with mystery. I really enjoyed reading the banter between Mila and Rogen and found that when they were in the same room I was constantly entertained. I also really loved how strong Mila's character is and how she can really kick ass! I did find this book to be very dark and filled with gore at certain parts, which was unexpected based on Tempest's previous books. However, it was nevertheless an overall enjoyable read. If you enjoyed Tempest's other reads, such as Beguiling Trickery, Within a Dream or the Underworld series, I definitely recommend reading Bone Deep. Tempest, you've managed to impress me once more ;) ! Keep it up!
Once again, Tempest surprises me with her attention to detail and myths especially in this story that has Mila and Gavril who are Moroi and Rogen, a vampire. This was an extremely enjoyable read. Loved Mila, her character strength. Although Rogen is swoonworthy, not sure I like him for Mila and am rooting for Rogen at the moment. Can't wait to read the next one!
