Everyone knows the road to love is filled with twists and turns. Lauren Barnholdt’s summer road trip novels, Two-Way Street and Right of Way, are now available together in one paperback edition!
In Two-Way Street Jordan and Courtney are totally in love…that is until Jordan dumps Courtney out of the blue right before they’re set to drive to college together. But it’s too late to change plans, so the trip must go on as planned. Courtney’s heartbroken, while Jordan’s got a secret or two that he’s not telling her. And the secret has everything to do with why they broke up, why they can’t get back together—and why they’re actually totally destined for each other.
In Right of Way Peyton and Jace meet on vacation and fall head over heels in love. But things don’t go as planned and after a tumultuous break-up, they’re thrown together on a road trip. One of them is lying about the destination. One of them is pretending not to be leaving something behind. And neither of them is prepared for what’s coming on the road ahead…
This book was great, great storyline and believable characters. Other than a few cheesy and unbelievable dialogue scenes, the characters were very realistic. The road-trip motif for both of these stories worked really well with the character and relationship growth. A great summer read, I was hooked from the first page.
Two Way Street/Part 1: I loved all the The OC show references! Loved that show. Not a big fan of the excessive amounts of curse words falling from BJ's lips. At first, my favorite character was Courtney's dad because he spent a lot of time comforting Courtney after her breakup with Jordan. Then he showed his true colors. Also, on page 166, he bossed Jordan around like a controlling parent. Total turn off. My least favorite character was Jordan. He was so much better & more wise in the second part. In the first part, all he could talk about was hooking up with girls. But when he was faking that phone call, hilarious! When friend & Courtney were talking on phone, before friend told C secret about Jordan, it was like C didn't even want to know the secret. So I'm sittin here, reading all this 'fluff' i.e. they're talking about who cares what & I have to wait 3 pages to hear the secret. Lame! Poor use of anticipation. I wish the ending had been more thorough. I.e. Courtney & Jordan working things out with Lloyd & BJ, as well as their parents.
Right of Way/Part 2: "Sometimes, the people you don't spend that much time with are actually the ones you can get the most hurt by, because you can get attached to the idea of them, as opposed to who they really are. You don't get enough time to really get to know them & their flaws, which is why you can sort of create this fantasy of who they are, & therefore indulge all your hopes & dreams of who you wanted them to be."
By the chapter with the fight over the pillow, I couldn't stand Peyton. She reminds me a little of Vivian from Two By Two by Nicholas Sparks. Peyton was bratty, spoiled & annoying. She was my least favorite character & Jace was my favorite. He's so smart & not to mention, good-looking. I laughed at the bath scene, when Jace fell in the tub, still cooing to the dog. The ending was pretty good, & I like the idea of being able to picture what'll happen next in the story.
Overall: I liked this book. It had some dud parts but doesn't almost every book? PS: All the 'La, la, la's' were kind of cute. I liked them.
Road Trip Summer takes readers through two different stories; both with the main characters traveling on a road trip with their ex. Going across the country to college, Courtney finds herself in the worst situation possible: her boyfriend just broke up with her, and he’s her only ride getting to where she needs to go. Jordan, Courtney’s ex, knows the real reason why he dumped her, but tells her otherwise to avoid the situation. This couple runs into many obstacles on their journey, but later figures out they are truly destined for each other. Courtney has a cousin, Peyton, who runs into her own trouble. She just went through her own breakup with her ex Jace, and they end up on a crazy road trip themselves. Peyton tries to run away from home, not telling anyone where she’s going, but she doesn’t have a car to get anywhere or money to pay for it. Jace, still in love with her, offers to drive her by playing it off that he has to go somewhere anyways. The couple barely knew each other when they first dated, but readers later learn how they both met and how they really feel about each other. I really enjoyed this story because even though it was two different stories, they connected in many ways. The chapters left readers hanging because they would go to present day, but then a flashback to fill us in on what happened before the breakups. My favorite part of the book was when Courtney and Jordan tried to hang out with other people at college, but then realized there was only each other that they loved. The author convinces readers to continue reading by leaving us on the edge, wanting more. The only thing I would change is how it started, I think it should’ve started with the flashback to get readers thinking nothing is wrong. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who has gone through a breakup or likes romance stories in general. This book takes readers on the trip with the characters themselves so that we can see what it’s like in each position. Any type of person that enjoys realistic fiction and romance would fall in love with this book.
The first story in this book was pretty good. I did figure out the big “secret” in the first couple of pages so that was kind of disappointing… however I thought Jordan and Courtney’s love story was cute.
In the second story… idk… I felt it was super similar to the first story… not in a way that the same situation between the two people was happening… but just the fact that in both stories, both couples were too scared to tell each other the truth which ended in them being mad at each other.
Overall I will rate it 3 stars… not because I hated it, but also not because I loved it.

In general, these two stories were good. From the cover, I was expecting two cute contemporaries about best friends on a road trip and I was surprised to read about exes and really dark topics. The hate to love wasn't very well handled and the characters' problems would've all been fine if they would've talked to each other and been honest.
a plot that I would love anytime but this book is insanely white and so 2000s white it’s lame she constantly talks about hating rap and even mentions her exes ringtone wondering if he likes big butts but then gets insecure if she has a big butt it’s so so behind in time not worth the read seeing black culture get dissed this much
Overall cute and enjoyable read, it’s two stories and characters are related to each other. It’s a bit long for what it is and I didn’t really need two love stories back to back where they can’t be together for really immature reasons. Regardless I liked the road trip aspect to it and was a good summer read between heavier books.
The story is great, per se but the writing is just... There were moments when I felt like it was written by a thirteen-year-old. It took me a while to get hooked. Overall, it was a mediocre read. If you want a light read for the summer, try this book.
It was A very good story I understand Courtney I have been in her place once before So I can understand where she's coming from I would be pissed to If the Love of my Life broke up with me...
I loved this re read of right of way one of these times I’ll need to re read two way street as well Peyton and Jace are my favorite 😍 couple in this book I believe besides Courtney and Jordan
I think that I'm going to keep this review kind of short because I truly did not enjoy either of the novels in this collection, and I don't like being a hater. Let's just get this out of the way to start- I didn't like any of the main characters in either of the stories. I think that they are selfish and rather dense. I just never felt like any of the characters were very well fleshed out, and I found pretty much all of them insufferable. Also, the relationships were insanely toxic and childish. No one should try and emulate whatever these people had going on. The communication between couple was not good at all, which can sometimes be chalked up to the age of the characters, but it was way too much with these guys. I also think the author's depiction of the whole moving into college thing was not really an accurate one. I do recall there being some cursing and a little bit of violence. There wasn't any abundance of sexual content, definitely nothing explicit, but there was talk of sex and what not. I think that this book fits best in the YA category. I definitely do not recommend this book. I didn't enjoy reading it and honestly question why I finished it at times. There was potential at times but the follow through wasn't there. I think there are better summer reads and better road trip reads. I'm not going to say this author doesn't have any good books, but this one doesn't have me itching to read more from her.
I loved the parallels between the two stories and did not expect there to be direct relation between the characters! I loved this book and honestly skipped ahead a few times just to make sure everything would be okay.
The book had me on the edge of my seat for basically the whole book, but In the beginning it did take me a while to get into it so I recommend to just hang in there its a great book.
It was an amazing book with four different characters two completely different stories. It was a great read I recommend it to anyone who enjoys romance and realistic fiction.
