Why fall for Prince Charming when the villain is so much more tempting? Because it feel so good to be so bad... The dark, dominant, tattooed Spaniard has all the arrogant machismo of a bullfighter and a body carved out of steel. In my sister’s fairytale romance, he almost destroyed my family. He’s the devil, and I hate him.
Until he saved my life, and changed everything.
Javier f**king Toro is the last man in the world I expect to find pulling me out of the way of danger. He’s cocky, crude, and dangerously tempting. He oozes sex and the promise of breaking every rule I’ve ever made. Bad boy? Yeah, no, there’s nothing “boy” about Javier. He’s a man.
A very, very bad man.
And I can’t resist him, no matter the consequences.

What is it that they say, payback is a bitch?
No, scratch that. Payback is a motherf*cker. One day after breaking out of a South American prison, I run head-first into her.
Innocent, uptight, and sexy as sin. Her sister may have almost killed me, her family put me in prison. That doesn’t mean I’m not dying to find out if she’s as much of a firebrand in bed as she is while she’s chasing me down, trying to put me away again.
That is, I’m curious until she’s got a gun pressed to my chest, flashing me a badge.
Yeah, Special Agent Chelsea Archer isn’t just “off-limits”; she’s the f*cking enemy. She’s the last girl in the world I need to have a damn thing to do with. Because if she gets close to someone like me, I’m going to destroy her. I’m going to ruin her in such perfect ways and have her scream my name like I’m the last man on Earth.
Because I'm no hero, I’m the bad guy.
And I'm a very, very bad guy.
***This is a standalone book with a HEA, though there are plot threads that continue through the full Soldiers of Fortune series.***
Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author Aubrey Irons enjoys writing about bold, sassy, and intelligent women and the hot, cocky, and quite typically forbidden bad boys who love and lust for them. Gripping stories, guaranteed happy ever afters, and LOTS of heat.
In the real world, Aubrey is kept plenty entertained by her own favorite bad boy husband, their two adorable kiddos, and the world's most ill-behaved puppy.

What a great idea it is to take the villain Burn and turn him into the unlikely, yet incredibly hot hero of his own story. I'm really excited to see Javier Toro get his own happily ever after. Redeemable bad guys? Oh, yes, please! He's the evil guy, yet he's not heartless. He also has a teasing nature that gets CIA agent Chelsea Archer all flustered and, in turn, pumps up the fun factor.
The narrative has a brisk pace with alternating POVs between male and female characters which add extra scope to the plot. I still don't care much for the frequent use of words in cursive, but I suppose it's the author's style and I have to learn to accept it.
The story? Hell, i Loved it. I loved the betrayals, the chase, the armed men and the strong, rave woman agent Chelsea is. I loved how wrong, forbidden, impossible a romance like criminal/cop pairing can be, and how passionate their connection is. I truly relished their hard, hot kisses and their free, fierce lovemaking.
The plot has action and a little suspense, a couple that goes from enemies to scorching hot lovers, a criminal who redeems himself like a true, blazing-guns hero, and a light, fun tone that ends up with fire. Very entertaining addition to the series. Now what comes next? I know it will be great too!
Theses two characters are on the run for their lives but one is the thief and one works for the cia .Theses to fall in love and will definitely will provable.
Of all the cliché trope-y books I have read recently, this has to take the cake. The cop and the criminal? Really? It sounds like I'm knocking it. I'm not. Javier was the villain in Burn, and a pretty fucking shitty dude. But Aubrey Irons actually turned him around in Scorch. That hardly ever happens and even less so when it's done as well as this one is.
4.5* I really enjoyed this story, and would of happily given it 5* if it had been longer. Though not necessarily a bad thing (the story ended around the 80% mark on my kindle) I just didn't really want it to end, and would of liked the extraction near the end to have been more detailed and also would like to have read what happened when the guys first arrived back in the States, especially with Chelsea's sisters Reagan and Quinn.
Overall though this story had me hooked, but I was surprised when reading the synopsis that Chelsea's story would feature Javier Toro rather than Bryce. And I did think of not reading it because I didn't particularly like Javier when he was introduced in Burn (Quinn and Logan's story) but after reading a couple of chapters, I was gripped and am so glad I didn't skip this story. It certainly threw up a lot of surprises, Chelsea not being just another college student and actually Javier being a really nice guy, but also the banter, chemistry and sex between the two was really hot!! and has certainly made me look at curtains in whole new way! :-)
This is definitely a story worth reading, and although it can be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading the entire series, as both previous books have a lot of backstory that does help to explain Chelsea's dislike and determination to arrest Javier in the beginning, plus those previous stories are great too so you really won't be disappointed.
"For every light in the world, there's a shadow somewhere else." I would never have believed an author could take such an unrepentant villain and turn him into a way too hot hero, but Aubrey Irons has done just that with her third book in the Soldiers of Fortune series. So far, each of the male leads worked for Blackriver Mercenary Group in the past, a top government contractor, but it is more of a sidenote to the storyline until this book, when a Blackriver team becomes the villain. But Irons has a way of turning the expected on it's head, which makes her books both entertaining and unforgettable.
Javier Gael Toro, the villain from book two, was sent back to Spain by the US at the conclusion of the book to stand charges there. But Spain sent him to Venezuela, where he was also wanted, and he escaped their island fortress prison, fleeing to Aruba. Chelsea Archer is a recent CIA academy graduate and a full time graduate student who is recommended by her boss for the mission of apprehending the escapee and returning him to US custody. But Javier takes note of the blonde sitting poolside at his hotel and before she can make contact, Javier rescues her from a team of armed men dressed in black. And the game begins. "For every shadow in the world, there's a light somewhere else."
Well, Aubrey is a new author for me, and although I need to have another new book in my kindle rotation like another hole in my head I downloaded this story. At first I'll admit I saw the cover and read the synopsis and said, "that sounds really good" and then since I had 10 books in my kindle unlimited list I said I need to read Scorch first. So this morning I started it and I finished just now....AND I FREAKING LOVED IT. OMG, Javier is the hottest bad, bad boy I've read in a long time, and Chelsea is this tough, princess CIA agent set out on her 1st assignment to capture her a Latin lover/bad boy. Now of course I think they catch each other in the end, buuuuut there's some great story between the beginning and the end, there's some really good action and suspense, and of course some sexy, hot sex scenes, and some really cute banter and smart aleckie conversations between these two characters. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this story. Next up .... Bryce. Ms Irons I'll be reading more of your books in the future!
Scorch: I'll admit I was a little skeptical about these characters in the beginning. First there's the spy nobody knew about, not even the readers. But I guess that's what spy's do, they hide & twist truths. Then there's the devil reborn. I really didn't expect that. I really HATED Javier at first because of what he did in the previous book with Quinn & Logan. But I guess you can also say that even bad people can have good in them somewhere. It just doesn't usually happen & most likely they're evil to the core. Thank goodness he changed for the better. That makes this book my favorite. Plus the banter between both Javier & Chelsea is sooooo hilarious!
Thank-You Read via Soldiers of Fortune: The Complete Collection
Scorch is the 3rd book from the Soldiers of Fortune series. You don't need to have read the first two in order to read this one, however it is recommended that you do to fully enjoy and appreciate this book. This book involves Javier and Chelsea. Javier is the bad guy from the book Burn And Chelsea is the youngest sister in the Archer clan. I loved this book. It reminded me of the show Covert Affairs. Even though Javier is a known bad guy, the author makes it believable that these two are drawn together. Javier is a sheep in wolf's clothing who simply lost his way. The sex scenes in this book are pretty hot too. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This isn't your typical come save the day hero.Javier is a Very Bad Man, he's the one your mother warned you about. Hes been in jail broke out , put everyone in Chelsea's life in danger, and she's ready to put him back where he belongs. But that only goes so far when there's that aching desire haunting you.Even Bad Boys can turn good,or can they? There are prior books to this one, but you don't have to read the others. This can be a stand alone book. The other books just explains more about the other characters. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone that loves those bad boys that are Scorching!! I received this book in return of an honest review
ohhh myyyy goodnessss such a great book well the whole series has been great Javier well he is a bad bad man well that's what he wants everyone to thing any way he is also sexy and and has a dirty dirty mouth and then he meets Chelsea and everything changes for him and for her Chelsea she strong willed and smart and has big heart
Read this series of books all back to back. Loved the 3 "brothers" Hudson, Logan and Bryce plus Javiers story. Cracking ex military - fast paced, rough + ready with plenty of sauce. What more could u want. Can't write much more without throwing in some spoilers - so won't but enjoy the read - read all 4 books in a couple of decent sittings.
scorch is indeed a good word to describe this book!! i was lucky to win a free copy in a competition and darn, i got lucky! could not put the put down until the end and is a high indicator i will be grabbing the rest of this series too.
I didn't want to read this book when I saw who the characters were but was presently surprised. I ended loving the book not wanting to put it down. I am really enjoying the whole soldiers of fortune books.
Just could not get into this book. Nothing about it that kept me intrigued or interested. Skimmed through the second half at warp sped and almost pulled a DNF. If this is what the rest of the series is like I will take a pass and Clair some space on my iPad for other books.
