Since the dawn of human civilization, two warring factions of near-immortals - the descendants of the gods of old - have been secretly shaping its destiny. Amanda's small clan champions progress and peace, while their powerful enemy, the Doomers, propagates ignorance and war.

Descending from a single goddess - the only one to survive the ancient cataclysm that wiped out her kind - Amanda's clan members are forbidden to each other. And as the only other known immortals are their hated enemies, they've been long resigned to a lonely existence of fleeting trysts with human partners. That is, until Amanda, the goddess's youngest daughter and a researcher of paranormal abilities - makes a game-changing discovery; two of her test subjects might be dormant carriers of the immortal gene. But before she can prove it, she gets snatched off a Beverly Hills street by a huge Doomer.

Dalhu can't believe his luck when he stumbles upon the beautiful immortal professor. Presented with a once in a lifetime opportunity to grab an immortal female for himself, he kidnaps her and runs. If he ever gets caught, either by her people or his, his life is forfeit. But for a chance of a loving mate and a family of his own, Dalhu is prepared to do everything in his power to win Amanda's heart, and that includes leaving the Doom brotherhood and his old life behind.

Amanda soon discovers that there is more to the handsome Doomer than his dark past and a hulking, sexy body. But succumbing to her enemy's seduction, or worse, developing feelings for a ruthless killer is out of the question. No man is worth life on the run, not even the one and only immortal male she could claim as her own...

Her clan and her research must come first...

Ended with a bang

Wow, this was excellent. I love the new character Daluh
The books so far have completely kept my attention, there interesting, with some twists on vampires. Actually they aren’t called vampires in this book, but descendants of Gods.

There are two rival fractions that have been at war for thousands of years. This book really left off on a bang, so I’m off to get the next book, it’s getting even more interesting.

I had to stop at this book in the series. While the idea of the story was interesting I got tired of skimming through half of each book so far. To much repetitive information and way too much inner dialog that bored me to death. This whole series could probably have been written in one book without all the filler.

This is a continuation of The Children of the Gods series, where parts one through three were dedicated to the romance between Syssi and Kian. In this next set of three, the romance between Dalhu and Amanda takes center stage while a continuing backstory and complex, interesting and significant world-building connect the two pairs of lovers. There is a bit of legend-dumping at the beginning that I wish had been integrated into the book, but the action picks up right where book three ended with the abduction of Amanda by the nefarious dark enemy, Dalhu.

Dalhu is a bad guy who has done bad things. It is apparent his past deeds are going to haunt any kind of future he and Amanda will have. We witnessed some of those horrible acts in the first three stories, but there were also hints of a conscience and possibility for enlightenment. Dalhu might be a salvageable Doomer. However, the hatred between the Doomers and Amanda's clan has blossomed for centuries. It will not be easy to overcome. Plus, Lucas teases us with another scrumptious and worthy warrior setting his sights on the lovely Amanda. Where will it all go? Be prepared to not find out in this book, but to pick up #5 as soon as possible.

Lucas connects ancient legends to current events in interesting ways. There are several overtly political statements incorporated, which I find rare for an urban fantasy/paranormal novel. The Doomers are obviously Muslim extremists wrapped in immortal clothing. "Someone like her [Amanda] would be probably stoned to death in the part of the world they controlled." Plot motivations seem ripped straight out of the headlines, or maybe a FOX newscast.

This serial novel thing has been pretty bad from the beginning, but this book was just too much. The writing isn’t very good. TONS of grammatical issues that annoyed the crap out of me. Stupid insta-love, and characters with emotions that were just all over the place. I was really just reading for the hot sex scenes if I’m being honest.

In this book, Amanda (who I actually liked before this) just randomly up and fell for the psycho Doomer who kidnapped her. I mean, really? He has crazy fits of rage and is fanatically obsessed with her because she is an immortal female. He literally could’ve kidnapped ANY immortal female and he’d have pledged his undying love to her because he’s desperate for his perfect fantasy life. And Amanda just goes with it. Like, “oh, he’s so sweet! I heart him!” Are you shitting me? It’s absurd. There is NO legitimate development for her feelings for him. It’s basically just “he’s hot, I’m horny, he said a couple things that were kinda sweet, I guess I love him.” Gag me. I’m done with this garbage “series.” Can’t read anymore of them.

2 Stars - It was ok
Audiobook

Ok, I think I'm done. The books are short, but they're boring. The author probably could have combined all of the books, cut out the fluff, and made 1 good book. The books are not getting better, are actually getting slightly worse, and I'm tired of the slut shaming. My Kindle shows the word slut used 9 times and the word whore used another 6 times. And that is just this 4th book.

I'm done. I don't care about the ending enough to keep on with the series.

Book four in the Children of the Gods series begins where book three ends, with Amanda's abduction by Dalhu. Amanda and Dalhu are near immortals, and their respective clans are at war with each other. Both clans originate from the mythological gods and had been at war since antiquity, when the God Mordth, the God the Doomers worship, had been spurned by the goddess Annani, the matriarch of Kian's clan. He had sworn himself as well as his descendants to wipe out Annani together with her descendants, and to obliterate the gods' matriarchal tradition of a woman's right to choose her mate. The Doomers adhere to his hateful patriarchal legacy, and to keep human society at large from achieving democracy and enlightenment they manipulate global affairs and instigate wars.
Dalhu's sees his chance encounter with Amanda, the immortal female he's fascinated with, as fated and doesn't hesitate to jump on the opportunity. At long last his dream of having an immortal mate comes true, and it doesn't matter that she wants no part in it. He is going to do his damnedest to win her over. Dalhu's efforts are working and Amanda is softening toward him. She finds the tall and handsome Doomer hard to resist. But their Romeo and Juliet story has more problems than the hatred between their clans. Amanda is a professor of neuroscience while Dalhu is an uneducated mercenary, she is rich and used to luxury while he has limited resources and no real job skills aside from being a killer for hire. But the biggest obstacle, one that Amanda doesn't realize yet , is that Dalhu is responsible for her nephew's Mark murder.
In this forth installment, the character development focuses mainly on Amanda and Dalhu, and to a lesser degree on Syssi's brother Andrew, who has his eye on Amanda as well. Kian and Syssi continue to have a big role in the story, and we learn more about Kian's darker side. I love that aside from the new villain, who unlike Dalhu seems to have no redeeming qualities, none of the characters are black and white. They are all flawed to some degree which makes them more real to me. The world building continues with light shed on the Brotherhood's nefarious plans. My biggest complaint is that I have no choice but to wait patiently for book five to come out.

Good concept

The story line by itself is unique and I wanted to know more. My problem is that I read fantasy to escape politics and the real world. The author definitely has strongly expressed opinions in this book. Regardless of whether my views coincide with the author’s or not... I do not want to be reminded of the real world that I’m reading to momentarily escape.

Disappointed

I was sucked into the story during the first book; and was disappointed by the very not so subtle cliffhanger. Each book I have read has left me more disappointed. This book? The first two chapters are from the book previous. To say I felt cheated is putting mildly. Then you get dangled NY yet another cliff hanger. I read the preview for the next book, and considering the last two Amanda/Dahul chapters will be the next books first two chapters and the preview will be the ones(s) following, I'll take a hard pass. I won't be continuing this series.

Dark Enemy: Taken – Captive – Redeemed
Children of the Gods books 4-6
I.T. Lucas

Series Summary:
From the beginning of time there have been near immortal beings who have molded humanity, been the object of worship but who as a race almost destroyed each other and human civilization.
Now only two Gods are left both sworn enemies:
The followers of Morta, the Doomers and the descendants of the Goddess Annani.

Lucas continues her unique addicting series with Amanda and Dalhu’s obstacle filled love story. It’s intense and at times dark but she always instills enough light for hope. Her dialogue is fast paced and her plot is engaging and interesting giving a freshness to this often stale genre. Her world building is unique and her characters may be ancient but surround themselves with all the 21st century gadgets plus her hints to future stories will lure readers (well this reader anyway) into purchasing the next set of books in the series.
Books 4 through 6 are Amanda and Dalhu’s story and must be read in order. In these installations readers will learn more about the history of these two remaining clans of immortals, will get more intimate with the Goddess and her family and will eventually get hints about what’s to come.
The audible edition is once again left in the capable voice of Charles Lawrence’s deep, sexy, satisfying baritone who expertly gives readers a deeper experience by intoning the emotions vocally and does a fantastic job portraying each and every character, human, immortal, male and female.

SUMMARY:
Amanda is the daughter of the last remaining female deity, Annani descendant from a race who ages ago were almost eradicated by civil war. She’s the youngest and for centuries has been known as the “party princess” but has redeemed herself lately when she became a scientist with the sole purpose of finding dormant immortals and save her race by providing them with mates. When she’s abducted by a member of her clan’s mortal enemy, the doomers, she’s afraid of death or worse. But that’s not what her captor has in mind at all.
Dalhu has long known the doomers philosophy is wrong and when he sees the photograph of a female immortal of his clan’s enemy he’s smitten. When he sees her in person he knows she’s his destiny. Now only if he can figure a way to keep her.

Eh.

So, this series has been pretty good up to this book. This book kind of went off the rails.

The author can't decide where to go with particular characters, so she demolishes her hard work in character development by having them behave in ways they wouldn't have previously. A character gradually changing with motivation? Okay. A character doing a 180 for no reason? That's lazy writing, IMO.

The plot is starting to unravel a little, as well, because the author is pushing her own politics a bit, and I came for romance, not a defense of capitalism.

I'm going to read the next one to see if it picks up, but I admit I'm only chancing it because I got it from Kindle Unlimited. No way I'd risk my money on it, and if I'd paid for this book, I'd be disappointed right now.

Things are heating up

This story is finally getting good. There are a lot more moving parts and more insight into the various character's personalities.

Dalhu has taken a risk to abduct Amanda. He's abandoning his evil organization, knowing they will stop at nothing to kill him once they find out he has gone on the run. Likewise, Amanda's clan will also be looking for them.

All he wants is a chance at love and he won't give up on convincing Amanda he's the man for her.

I like Dalhu and the way he deals with Amanda who is a pampered princess. I'm rooting for him.

I understand why Dalhu "speaks" and thinks the way he does but some of his language is offensive. He does develop somewhat nicely and he is a very interesting character. Amanda also somewhat develops and becomes more than a two dimensional character - that is how I viewed her previously. Andrew and Kian - I liked their supporting roles even if I think they are both full of crap sometimes.

I am finishing this series only because my personality won’t allow me to stop. I’m invested now and want to see where it’s going. This main couple was pretty interesting twist I’m still not enjoy the cliffhangers at the end of every book and the fact that there is no true wrap up before moving on to the next couple.

Fated love or lust? Amanda...

Amanda is kidnapped by a Doomer in broad daylight. He subdued her with his venom, taking her off to a remote cabin in the woods. As she fears for her life, she's also strangely attracted to this forbidden man. He's going to make her his mate, one way or another. In a series of twists and turns, Amanda finds herself amidst an internal struggle while her family is desperately trying to find her. Will Amanda give in to forbidden desires? Will her family rescue her in time? You HAVE to read and find out!! These books just keep getting better; leaving you hanging on every word! Thank goodness there's 7 in the series so far. I'm dying for the next one to be released! I can't get enough! Believe me when I say, you won't be disappointed by any of these books! I love them all!

Paranormal Romance as a genre is a favorite of mine. The world & characters here is very interesting & compelling, yet the author fails to really use the story structure to make the stories fully satisfying to read. This book in particular should come with a warning because the ending probably easily offensive to those who have suffered forceful unwanted actions perpetrated on them by others, think do I.

The narrative style of the author is very jarring. However, the author does us the service of labeling each chapter with source of the point of view narrating. So it is easy to skip Dahl chapters as the author failed to even care to approach the question of why the reader should care about him. That also extends to other family members whos story seems divorced from the primary plot. Again, failing to show why the reader should care.

If the author should happen to read this & is interested in a solution? Stick to the points of view that are telling the story. For instance, the author does a wonderful job in "The Perfect Match" series of books. The characters are both telling the same story instead of being on opposite sides of the planet.

For instance, Princess Leia gives R2D2 information & helps them escape. The droids make it to Luke, then Luke has to chase after R2D2. Then they hire Han & Chewie to escape the planet. Each character has a reason for associating with the others. Princess Leia needs the Death Star plans to escape. The droids need Luke to help them find Obi-Wan Kenobi. In turn, they need to get off planet & join the rebels, so they hire Han Solo & Chewie.

This series of books does the exact opposite of that, and that makes it rather jarring & unpleasant to read. It might be ok with someone with the attention span of a TikTok video but that fails to be a good thing. As one of a myriad of readers, the author probably cares little for the wants & desires of mine. However, if they felt generous enough to grant me a wish? Please stop this... stick to POVs involved in furthering the main plot. Dahl was a joke to me, because everyone of his chapters before he kidnapped his obsession, were skipped by me. Others have said that I am rather easy to please, so please feel free to draw your own conclusions.

These issues aren't even the reason for the lowest rating from me. It takes a lot for a story to be offensive a day after it's read by me. Many authors seem to skimp on editing their novels for grammar & spellchecking. So while it's nice, it is far from immersion breaking to me.

Obsession is a purely selfish feeling that is an anathema to love in any form, let alone romantic love. They are like oil/water & north/south pole of a magnet. They fail to mix & easily repel each other because they are polarly charged. The feeling is known to me, & required a lot of self-reflecting & meditating to get past. Yet the ending wrote by the author fundamentally confuses the two.

Stockholm Syndrome is a real thing, & so for the author to choose to make light of it by giving it even close to a happy ending is offensive to me. Its absurdity is only compounded by a story from one of the side character's childhood of being disciplined for inappropriately behavior. The synopsis written for the book is abundantly false. The ending fails to be a true twist, instead it's a perversions for the character of Amanda.

As it is current written, Amanda fails to care about anyone but herself & her own sexual gratification. When faced with a new role in a relationship that deeply interests her, she abandons her supposed commitment to saving her entire species from extinction. The story shows it as much more than a single act, weakness, or chapter. Instead she thinks about it, & chooses to think her own selfish desires are more important than the future of her family & species. How is that consistent with the character of Amanda written in the first three books?

The previous three books show Amanda as a caring & loving sister. Yet she also feels compelled to rebel against all societal rules on behavior, while still obeys her clan's laws. When faced with a deeply traumatic event in her past, she eventually chose to commit herself to be more than a narcistic socialite. Yet in one book the author showed that was all a lie. It was all an act for whatever reason.

Now Syssi should be facing the realization that one of the most important people in her life made a choice to abandon her & her new clan. That when faced with carnal desire, Amanda failed to care about anyone but herself. How is that satisfying in any way, shape, form, or fashion?

The book is written in such a way that it seems the author will also just gloss over this fundamental & systemic betrayal. This perception of mine could be because her world is fundamentally flawed with how the clan seems to know everything going on in the world, to the distortion of mine. Even if that is false, the author fails to show the clan facing problems sourced by the other secret Powers that Be. Furthermore, the book does Kian a disservice by depicting his reaction as being unreasonable, hateful, & speciesist. All of this makes it likely the next several years in-story will be ignored by me.

The lack of an actual story structure just compounds the response of mine, as it makes the decision easy. If the book was truly satisfying the situation could be overlooked by me. Yet it fails, & so there is a very real desire for me to skip the entire future of this absurdity.

For Gravity being shared by you, grateful am I. May the Goddess be asked to alighten a path towards love, joy , & happiness along the self'determined life'cycle chosen by the higher'self of yours by you, pray do I.

The fourth in this series... Each story bleeds into the next.

The story leads on from where the last one left off.

Syssi, a lab assistant studying people with special abilities, like herself, is coming to grips with her future with the leader of the band of immortal, Kian. Amanda, as Syssi's scientist boss and soon to be sister in law, is working together with Syssi to find other dormant humans who are the descendents of a gods.

I'm the last book... Professer Amanda, is kidnapped by an enemy agent 'Doomer', Dalhu, who after 900 years of his own servitude to a cause he doesn't believe in, takes the opportunity to steal the one thing he would never have access to... An immortal woman. However, this is a story that has been building for the last several books.

When Amanda is faced with Dalhu and is forced to come to terms with her new encarceration, she also has to face the fact that the Doomer before her is not who she
expected, but maybe everything she needs.

Syssi's brother, Andrew, ends up in the mix when Amanda goes missing, working with Kian to find Amanda and bring her safely home and preferably into his arms.

Drama insues as every one has they own agenda. This book is from multiple points of view, so can be a little clunky but ultimately it works.

Like books one to three this book ends with another cliffhanger. I find that incredibly frustrating. Make sure you have access to the full collection as otherwise you are going to be left wanting more and/or be seriously disappointed.

The fourth installment in the series brings Amanda to the spotlight. Amanda, the youngest daughter of the goddess, is a scientist in search of love. Or actually, she is in search of dormant carriers of the immortal gene. Since members of her own clan are forbidden to each other, and the only other group of immortals in the world is their mortal enemies, finding such carriers might be the only way out of a lonely existence for all of her kind. That is until a gorgeous, huge Doomer kidnaps her from the streets of Beverly Hills. Now Amanda must figure out how to escape and continue her work without risking her life or further discovery by her mortal enemies. But Amanda soon discovers that there is more to the handsome Doomer than his dark past and a hulking, sexy body. Still, giving in to her enemy's seduction, or worse, developing feelings for Dalhu is unacceptable. For if she does his clan isn't the only one that is going to want them dead. No matter that she soon realizes that he is the only one for her. Now she has to put her brilliant scientist's brain to work and figure out how to get them both out of trouble.

Amanda's waterloo.

I found this to be a better than the first trilogy. I.T.Lucas shows an understanding of the world and it's politics. Introducing Dalhu, a despised Doomer, is brilliant. Here is a character who has been brainwashed for the last 800 years bit, on his first trip out of his country and exposed to western culture, he starts to think for himself. This process has obviously been going on for a while as he has purchasedu many expensive high end watches etc. When he sees Amanda's photo he falls hook, line and sinker.
Amanda has never met a near immortal man who wasn't a relative before meeting Dalhu. Dalhu is a prime specimen who is even bigger than Anandur! All that Amanda can keep telling herself is that he is the enemy. Unfortunately her body and brain aren't listening! Meantime, Kian and Andrew are about to rain on her parade.
Absolutely loved this book. Can't wait to read the next one.

Stockholm syndrome or the real deal?

OK, so that was very unexpected. Amanda & the Doomer, Dalhu, had, what could only be described as, a Moment. Or rather a long series of Moments. She's going to have to plead her case very carefully with her incensed brother or maybe she will choose righteous indignation, instead. Whichever way it goes I fear irreparable damage could be done to the familial bond.

The "humanisation" of Dalhu was beautifully handled - it could be a pivotal moment if only prejudices can be put aside; in this case, Kian's in particular. I particularly liked the sentiment concerning learning from history or be condemned to repeat the mistakes of the past, with all the misery that entails. It seems particularly apposite given the state of world politics mid 2025.

Obsessed is an understatement!!

I read the books 1-3 a few months ago, before I had KU. My mind always wondered back to the series and happened to Amanda….. now that I have KU, I am about to INDULGE. *drool* you thought you loved Syssi and Kian???? You are not ready for Amanda and Delhu *fans face* these books are very quick reads, and the detail and world building is phenomenal.

While I do find it hard to keep up when new characters are introduced, the author does a great job at keeping everyone who they are and introducing characters with their story!

I really enjoy that we get to keep up with the characters we feel in love in the last books, as well! You’re getting a new story, but also keeping up with your ‘old’ favorites. *tear* I can’t wait to find out what’s in store.

Dark Enemy: Taken KU/bought 234 pgs *** 6/19/21 Dalhu & Amanda

3 stars for all of the filler pages and 16+ repeat pages from book 3. The books seem to get shorter and shorter as I read them. I enjoyed to story but it did drag in several places. The last half was the saving grace, you could say. Dalhu, a Doomer, was not what I anticipated, he was actually the complete opposite of what I thought he would be like. The abduction of Amanda was interesting as was the team sent to rescue her. Syssi’s brother, Andrew, was given more of a role in this book so I expect to see more of him. I will read the next to find out what happens with Dahlu. I was glad to be introduced to Kian and Amanda’s mother in this book, I hope to see more of her as well.

Huge series!

Yes this is a huge series, and while I've only finished book 5 now, I'm thoroughly enjoying it! To start with, I love how the characters are introduced as the story goes on and even when moving to the next couple, it still includes the first so its as if the world of The Children of the Gods keeps expanding, and not just skipping from one to the next because I always want to know what's happening next with the previous stories in series like this. Next, while this is a fictional world, its also based on reality with references to historical events in a way that makes it easy to understand the world in the story. And finally, did I mention how much I'm loving this series?

There is so much going on in this installment of "The Children of the Gods". Syssi's struggle for survival is weighing down on Kian and now his sister is missing. The drama is off the charts in this episode. Discovering the Doomer, Dalhu, had a conscience and is capable of free thought is surprising and, strong willed Amanda appears to be willing to give him an opportunity to woo her romantically. This story continued to intrigue and mystify the deeper I get into the lives of these amazing characters and their extended family. I'm waiting anxiously to see what else develops in the next book. Exciting Story!!!!!

Picks up right where we left off on book #3.
I like the new character Dalhu. He knows the clan he comes from is evil and cruel and finding Amanda has spun his whole world around. He truly wants to make Amanda his life mate and does everything he can to make her happy.
Amanda, a spoiled princess and diva, finally takes a look at herself in a new light. She is opening herself up to Dalhu and is starting to have her curiosity peaked.
There could be something special between these two.
Andrew and Kian have a LOL camaraderie. I really like Andrew's character. He is smart, perceptive and has a laid back attitude. There may be a love triangle in the works.

So good

I'm so happy this is now Amanda's storyline. Though, to be honest, after reading book 3, I was really hoping we could continue Kian and Syssi's story. I feel there is so much to discover with those two.
Then I started reading this bwaveook, and Holy hello...! It is fire!
Amanda is resigned to the high probability of never being in a relationship with a fellow immortal and has taken it upon herself to find dormats to ensure the survival of her clan.
Dahu, Doomer who just a chance at love, specifically with Amanda. Now the question is, could this work, can Amanda have something that's with her clans mortal enemy??

Better.

My favourite so far in the series. There was a fair bit of repetition from previous books, which I was kind of surprised by, since I thought you had to read all books in order. But actually, this one was written in a way that you could start the series with this book and not miss anything important (in my opinion). I liked both the main characters of this book. Dahlu is such a sweetheart - despite the anger management issues. Amanda is a much better heroine than that annoying Syssy too.

To Dark Enemy : Taken (The Children of The Gods Paranormal Romance Series) by I.T.. Lucas

Dark Enemy. did not whole my attention like Kian and Syssi too many voices. Amanda was a little to whiny and immature to be so smart. I kind of liked Dalhu but I'm not sure that a relationship could work between mortal enemies. The questions are will Andrew turn , will Kian forgive Amanda and if the Dimmers will track down the clan and kill them. Interesting . This series is for mature reader's.
