This chapter-by-chapter summary of The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker provides you with all the main concepts from this great book in the shortest amount of time with the exact information and strategies you need. “These days, no one in America feels immune to violence. But now, in this extraordinary groundbreaking book, the nation's leading expert on predicting violent behavior unlocks the puzzle of human violence and shows that, like every creature on earth, we have within us the ability to predict the harm others might do us and get out of its way. Contrary to popular myth, human violence almost always has a discernible motive and is preceded by clear warning signs. Through dozens of compelling examples from his own career, Gavin de Becker teaches us how to read the signs, using our most basic but often most discounted survival skill - our intuition. The Gift of Fear is a remarkable, unique combination of practical guidance on leading a safer life and profound insight into human behavior.” “Recognize, though, that manipulators have honed a strategy that advances their interests with little regard to your well-being. Don't feel sorry for them. They know what they are doing. With this book, you are better equipped to see them realistically and rid them from your life before they cause real damage.” “It's worth your time. Quite literally, this book could save your life. I'm not exagerating.” “Buy it, if not for yourself, for your sons, daughters, cousins, nieces, and nephews.”
A must read for women. I’m quite impressed by the delivery style in writing, much more than the content. The emotion fear is much misunderstood, this gives a clarity, also as they say we need to give the devil its due. Fear can’t be avoided, the author gives much needed clarity between fear, worry and paranoia He convinces you why fear is your friend but not worry. He argues your fears are often signals that your survival is at risk. You should consciously evaluate why you are afraid. It’s not helpful to worry, neither is wishing away the fears helpful. Don’t be afraid to ask , why am I afraid?
I think this is the abridged version that I read/listened to from my library. I immediately began the full book and I immediately strongly suggested my daughters and wife listen as well. A must read for every daughter, wife, dad, and brother.
