Some family members are re-united and some are separated (apparently for a long time). I wonder where this journey will take them next. This story thread ended with a BANG!
Saga #3O by Brian K Vaughan is simply awesome! What a gore filled fast paced episode... The artwork of Fiona Staples steals everything about #30. Our heroes are back And the shit has really hit the fan. Some major story lines finally move forward and all that I can say is "Wow".
I have to say that after 29 editions I have really come to love how this story comes alive due to the graphic novel format. I read each page over and over again before turning it as the artwork demands your attention. Many times the manner in which Staples portrays our heroes tells even more about the story than the actual words do. I simply love it. The story rocks out. Vaughan's no fear of pushing things too far really works. And the artwork...Oh boy the artwork is unvielablly awesome. I love this series and thanks to Vaughan and Staples, I love the graphic novel.
Love the cover on this issue. Alana appears again in what seems like a million issues and she attacks a guard to get free. She gets some extra help escaping. Alana’s mother in law has the daughter but then they are recaptured. Oh thank the gods- Marko and Alana are back together. That’s about it but that was more than enough and it was emotional and awesome.
One thing I’m not happy with is that Alana used the term retard. Retard is slang and I get it but it is also extremely insulting and really hurts people who are mentally challenged. I would much prefer the F word or anything else. Of course I should have kept reading before jumping to comment because the person who was insulted raised a fuss about the term and I appreciate that Vaughan was able to address that a little.
I normally do not have time to read the columns and letters at the back of the issue but I did glance at it this time and was disapointed that there is now going to be a little hiatus. So not happy!! But they had a funny survival guide which was amusing.
Anyway, this was back to awesomeness, I didn’t LOVE the last several issues but this one totally rocked my world.
Description (COmixology): Sooner or later, everything dies.
1. This series literally has the best covers. 2. It's like fantasy/superhero/love story/sci-fi/drama/comedy. All genres in one. 3. The art is captivating and tells a story. 4. The little side frames of Hazel's narrations is pretty great. 5. I feel like people will soon have Alana's haircut. And grow horns like Marko. 6. Basically all of the first and last pages of these are genius. 7. A few years until she sees her family???!?!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! 8. Marko and Alana are reunited!!!!!! 9. The Will is better! Yet, way damaged. 10. The TV head killer is dead! 11. The Stalk is dead. Noooooo. 12. I love Hazel’s pineapple outfit. 13. Love this quote: “Every relationship is an education. Each new person we welcome into our hearts is a chance to evolve into something radically different than we used to be.”
The revolution is gone (thank God, a bunch of stupid pells) Dengo's gone, Robot IV (who's no longer prince) took his life and found his son btw. The Will is doing all better Granny Klara is fine, for the moment, who knows what's gonba hapoen to her next. Gwen and Sophie are ok, a little sad for losing The Brand (The Will's sister) ALANA & MARKO are back together but Hazel has been taken away again! Can't wait for #31!
All the plot is starting to come together wonderfully. I really like where this book went with the main romantic relationship and where we have left the narrator.
It's extremely difficult to rate the individual chapters, therefore the following is a review of the fifth volume. In other words, chapters twenty-five through thirty.
Saga volume five gives us chapters twenty-five to thirty, and I desperately need volume six. That ending, gosh does it have me desperate to see what comes next. The issue? The library does not have volume six, meaning it may take me a while to get my hands on it. It’s typical really, the moment I find myself completely hooked, happy to read the volumes back-to-back, I reach the point where I have no more to read.
Fear not, however, as I will be continuing. I’m addicted now, and I’m desperate for more of the goodness I’ve fallen in love with.
In fact, I’m willing to label volume five my favourite of the series thus far. Everything I’ve enjoyed so much about the prior volumes was amplified, yet again, ensuring I powered through this one in no time at all. I continued to fall ever deep in love with the characters, the storyline continued to develop in wonderful ways, things are insanely weird, the humour was on point, and the emotional abuse has me invested to an unexpected degree.
Honestly, this is a series that is more than worth reading.
This is one of the weaker issues in the series, made even more disappointing because it closes out a story arc. These are typically among the strongest, but this one is almost exclusively devoted to table setting: various parties get reunited while others get broken up — someone is chasing someone and Hazel’s whole family is still broken up. Instead of some meaningful plot developments, we get some musical chairs.
There’s still plenty to live in the art, dialogue, and Hazel’s narration, but this one comes up short of the lofty expectations of an arc-closing issue.
