As part of the Ambassador of the Philippines wife’s detail, Emma is no stranger to flying, but that doesn’t mean she likes it. Her world is turned upside down when her plane crashes in the middle of the jungle. Evidence strongly suggests that the crash was no accident, but why? All she knows is that she now faces dangers from her environment, and needs to get help and off the island immediately if not sooner. Lucky for her Ryan Owen and his elite team of SEALs have been sent to her rescue.

Ryan and his team are hoping to find survivors, but he doesn’t expect to be taken with Emma Wright. She’s beautiful and resourceful, and unfortunately, in a lot of danger. Ryan’s not looking for a relationship, his job makes it really difficult, but his powerful feelings for Emma catch him by surprise.

Emma and Ryan get to know each other pretty quickly under intense circumstances. Their chemistry heats up the pages as their attraction grows, but can they have anything once the mission is over?

At the Edge
was action packed and danger filled almost immediately! This is a quick read with just a 144 pages you’ll breeze right through the story. Be warned, the story ends on a cliffhanger making you want the next book ASAP! Edge of Surrender releases on March 28th so just a few short weeks away.

4.5 Rescue Me Stars

At the Edge is the first book in the Alpha Crew series. I didn’t have any expectations for this book and every once in a while I like reading action packed books. At the Edge is a fast pace, addictive read. There’s a damsel in distress Heroine, an alpha male Hero and plenty of surprises along the way to bring a smile to your face.

Emma’s plane goes down and she’s still in the middle of the jungle. I really liked the way the book started. I have this crazy love for Heroines getting trapped somewhere far away. I feel like anything can happen. Everyone on the private plan is dead and Emma needs to find help.

Ryan is a SEAL, he’s strong, fast and his mission is to rescue any survivors from the plane crash. He has Intel on Emma and she’s at the top of his rescue list. Don’t even get me started on Ryan, gah, all the muscles and all the testosterone, it makes me want to fan myself.

I liked how Ryan kind of had a background on Emma prior to rescuing her. He was already fascinated by her but when he finally met her, it was like boom. I love it when Emma and Ryan meet. Emma is crazy and all out of sorts being out in the wild for over twenty four hours. It’s really adorable and cute how Ryan tries to comfort Emma, but at the same time is on the lookout.

The book progresses and we realize Emma isn’t safe. As Emma continues to question the plane crash, someone doesn’t want Emma to find the truth. Emma has no one to turn to, except for Ryan. Ryan battles with his inner emotions, knowing he shouldn’t start anything with her, but his attraction towards her is undeniable.

The tension between Emma and Ryan was good, it was just enough to keep you on your toes, but it wasn’t drawn out where it frustrated me. I really liked the banter between the two.

The thing I really liked about this book is that it was fast pace and short. I know it’s a two part series, but it ended on a high note in my opinion.

4 - "I said don't call me ma'am." Stars!

At the Edge is the first in Laura Griffin’s new Alpha Crew series. Part one of two this novella explores the budding relationship between SEAL, Ryan Owen and Emma Wright, the woman he initially rescues from the Philippine Jungle, after she survives a plane crash.

This is my first book by this author, and to say she packs an awful lot in to a somewhat low page count would be an understatement, be warned though that this is only the beginning, although luckily you only have to wait a few weeks for the finale.

"They sent me to rescue you."

Five weeks after their somewhat unconventional meeting Emma looks up Ryan, wanting to thank him for what he did for her but to also see if he knows why, everyone is trying to cover up the real facts of the plane crash. It is also pretty apparent that the chemistry that simmered between them in the jungle is still present and ready to combust now that they are back on US soil.

But someone is not happy that Emma is digging for the truth, and Ryan once again ends up protecting her, but this time from an unknown entity.

This novella ends on a cliffy, be warned, but as previously stated the second part Edge of Surrender releases 28th March. This is a romantic suspense series with huge potential, and I hope that the author has a few ideas up her sleeve for some of Ryan’s SEAL Team Colleagues with future books.

ARC generously provided via Netgalley, and it was my pleasure to provide the above honest review.

WOW! Heart-pounding action, sexy SEALS and great chemistry, I couldn’t get enough. Laura Griffin has proved, once again, that she can bring the suspense and the sexiness. Full force.

I don’t know what would be scarier - waking up to find that I was the only survivor of a plane crash or having to spend the night in a dark, tarantula infested jungle, all alone. I'm thinking the spiders, but that's totally my arachnophobia talking.

Emma wakes up on a remote island in the Philippines to find she's the only survivor. Just when she's given up all hope, she comes face-to-face with Ryan. Lucky for her, he's part of the elite team of SEALS the government sent to the crash site. He’s strong, protective and such a gentleman. Well maybe his thoughts aren’t always so chaste but that’s part of the fun. Watching her try and push the limits and him fighting to hold back from acting on his own thoughts and desires.

"Do you trust me?"

I’ve read a few books from Laura Griffin now and I like that she writes really strong female characters. It's so refreshing. It gets old reading about weak, virginal women looking for validation from a manwhore. That so wasn’t Emma, in any way. Or Ryan for that matter. Despite the people trying to keep her quiet about the shady circumstances surrounding the crash, Emma pushes forward and tries to uncover the truth. I had to admire her tenacity. She didn’t hesitate to go after what she really wanted. She tracked Ryan down, made it clear what she wanted and kept pushing until she got it. She didn’t sit back and wait for him to make the first move. Together they were explosive and totally intoxicating.

But prepare yourself, this part ends with a massive cliffhanger. I'm talking HUGE! You'll want to jump right into Part II.

****THIS BOOK DOES CONTAIN A CLIFFHANGER!!****

At the Edge is a great start to Lauren Griffin's Alpha Crew series. This book is PART 1 of a 2 part "book". And it starts off with a "bang"... literally.

Emma Wright is working in for the US ambassador in the Philippines when her plane is goes down. She is the lone survivor looking for a way to survive until (hopefully) help comes looking for her. Emma isn't sure that her distress call was picked up when she came to after the crash and she can't get the sat phone to work to call for help. Emma is truly on her own and still trying to deal with her injuries from the crash.

Ryan Owens and his elite team of Navy Seals was sent in to find the shot down plane and rescue any survivors. They don't know who or what to except when they search the dangerous jungle. One thing Ryan doesn't expect is to be instantly drawn to the resourceful, driven, and sexy Emma Wright. He's never been this instantly taken with a woman, but his mission is to bring her home safely.

But back home, Emma is looking for answers... and someone doesn't want her to find them.

Make sure to subscribe to my blog so you don't miss my review of Part 2 coming closer to it's release date!!

At the Edge by Laura Griffin is a 2016 Pocket Star publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher, as an XOXpert, the official street team of XOXO After Dark.

A new series by Laura Griffin! Who can resist that temptation? This novella length story is the first book in the Alpha Crew series and is centered around Navy SEAL Ryan Owen and Emma Wright.

When a plane crashes in the Philippine jungle, Ryan and his team are commissioned to find the plane and rescue any survivors, which is how he meets Emma. Emma is the sole survivor of the crash, and while making their way back to the states the two forge a bond. But, the rescue mission is only the beginning. It seems Emma’s search for answers about the crash has garnered her some unwanted attention, which means Ryan must protect her, even if it means he must put his growing attraction to her aside.

As always, Laura Griffin has written a scorching hot, action packed, romantic suspense story. Awesome storyline, non-stop suspense, political intrigue, and hot Navy SEALS. What more can you ask for? This story is one of two parts, so be warned, there is a ‘to be continued’ ending, but “Edge of Surrender” is also available now, so there is no wait time.

If this is any indication of how this series will play out, I can hardly wait for more!

This new ebook captured my interest from the very first page. Loaded with action, thrills, intrigue and hot military muscle that won't quit, this romantic suspense is fast moving and offers a fast paced story that is engaging and so, so very good.

The author knows how to keep the interest moving with plenty of steamy heat, heart pounding action and a storyline that is engaging and not to be missed. If you love military action with a romantic element, this is a story for you! I could not get enough of this book. There is so much going on that you do not want to miss a word!

Laura Griffin is definitely one to watch when it comes to romantic suspense novels. Since this is a two part book, I am pleased to tell you that the second portion is coming right around the corner so you don't have to wait too long to finish the story!

A delicious, steamy read and plenty more to come in Part 2!

4.5 Almost Perfect Stars!

This was almost perfect. An exciting storyline, hunky Seal Hero and an admirable heroine. Emma is in danger and Ryan is determined to protect her, but he wants to protect her too much. The attraction is instant and very hot, but for some reason Ryan doesn't want to give in to it. I'm not really sure why he's trying to stay hands off with her. If he pursued her instead of the other way around, this would have been a solid five star for me. Despite that, I love the writing. This does end on a cliffhanger.

Emma Wright works for an Ambassador’s wife, traveling the world and providing goodwill missions to very remote places. During one of these trips, the small plane Emma is on with her boss, crashes into a jungle island. After gaining consciousness, Emma sees her boss is dead, but the pilot, while unconscious, has a faint pulse. Emma finds his satellite phone, gets down from the plane, and tries to find higher ground so she can call for help. When Emma returns to the plane, she sees the pilot has been shot in the head. Knowing danger is lurking out there, she spends a very dark, and lonely night alone in the jungle.

Ryan Owen is a SEAL and leader of the Alpha Crew, dispensed to find the Ambassador’s wife and any survivors. When they reach the plane, Emma isn’t there, but they see her footsteps leading away. Ryan finally ends up finding her and they have quite the dramatic rescue as the bad guys come back. Sometime later, Emma reconnects with Ryan in San Diego – Emma refuses to give up the investigation as to why the pilot was shot and the real reason the plane went down – which brings the bad guys to her door again.

I really enjoy Griffin’s Tracer’s series, which is an excellent murder-mystery romantic suspense series. My one complaint in those books, however, is that the romance is always on the lighter side. In this book, Griffin definitely ramps up the sex. Ryan is so sexy – trying to be a very disinclined SEAL on his rescue mission, but he can’t help but admit his lust when it comes to Emma:

When he had found her, he’d disregarded all mission discipline and allowed himself to look at her as a woman and not some crash survivor he needed to rescue. And then he’d compounded that mistake by letting her sweet-talk him into staying here alone with her.

And if all that weren’t bad enough? He’d started getting personal with her until their entire conversation was reduced to whispers in the dark.

She shifted on his legs, and Ryan’s gut clenched. Jesus, he’d had knife wounds less painful than this. All her squeezable curves were right within reach, and if she didn’t stop wiggling around on him, he was going to lose his mind.

Ryan has those very quiet, controlled emotions that SEALS tend to have that makes my romantic heart beat. He tries to act very disinterested but then he grabs Emma and can’t contain himself. I approve of this.

While they have hot make-out sessions, Emma can’t give up her quest to find out the real motivation for her plane going down, signaling interest from some very bad guys. This book (which is more novella length) ends up with a cliffhanger, which will be resolved in book two, Edge of Surrender, out March 28. I do think it’s a bummer that it’s $3.99 for a novella, that could have been a full-length – but – it’s fun nonetheless.

Cliffy...

Great start and very fast paced. Emma's plane crashes in the jungle and hot SEAL Ryan comes to rescue her. The rest of his team is pretty hot too. They get back and eventually hook up, but all her questions about the crash has made some one mad. Then comes the cliffy.

4 Stars for the story; 1 Star for the cheap, scammy marketing ploy of the publisher. This is one book cut in half to sell for twice as much money.

Nice story by Laura Griffin, and a good beginning to what looks to be a new series. Emma, personal assistant to an ambassador's wife goes down in a plane crash in the jungles of a small island country. The ambassador missed the trip at the last minute, but his wife was on board. Everyone dies but Emma, and she is rescued by a SEAL team. After being separated from the rest of the team, she and hunky SEAL Ryan become close. Lots of sexual tension. They part ways after the rescue, but come back into contact while she is trying the convince officials that the plane didn't crash, but was actually shot down. Ryan winds up protecting her from the bad guys. More sexy time, then the very short story ends on a cliffhanger.

Now for the pissy part, and the reason I could rate this no higher. I like Laura Griffin, a lot. Her "Tracers" series is one of my favorite RS series. That being said, I was extremely put off by this little bit of a story. It was very short, took about an hour to read. Then the cliffhanger to what I am to assume is to be another very short second half. Basically, this is one book cut in half to be sold at twice the cost.

Not cool. Not cool at all, and I'm disappointed at what amounts to a cheap trick by the publisher. If I'd had to pay for this, I'd be even more pissy about it.

OOOOH y’all!!!! This is gonna be goooooood!

1. Laura Griffin
2. Sexy SEALS
3. Heart pounding action from the onset
4. Sexy SEALS
5. Mystery and intrigue
6. Sexy SEALS
7. Danger
8. Sexy… yeah you guessed it... SEALS! LOL

I devoured this short prequel/introduction into the Alpha Crew in one afternoon. I can’t wait to see where this goes.

Emma Wright finds herself the lone survivor of an airplane crash, with instinct and wit being the only things that keep her safe until rescue comes. One of the members and the first to find her is team leader Ryan Owen. It’s an immediate spark. Whether it’s brought on by the fear, adrenaline, or panic of the situation, both Ryan and Emma feel it.

Weeks later, we find these two together again. Only Emma is digging where people don’t want her and Ryan is trying to keep her alive… again.

That’s all you get folks. It’s a relatively short read and I am keeping spoilers at a minimum. But I will give you a few tidbits.

Warning: CLIFFHANGER.
Warning: THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING.
Warning: SEXY SEALS (I couldn’t resist *wink*)

Review originally posted at All Books Considered: 4 STARS

After reading Rachel's review from Waves of Fiction , I decided to give this series a try. I love romantic suspense and other series involving SEALs are some of my favorites. I hadn't read anything by Laura Griffin prior to these books but I am definitely going to check out her backlist now! These books are both super short and make really good companions for a sort of seamless story. In book 1, Emma is rescued by Ryan and his team of SEALs but neither can stop thinking about each other even weeks after the rescue. And, at the same time, Emma has serious questions about what caused the plane she was on to crash . . . cue Emma and Ryan's second meeting state-side. And the sparks flew! Even though this was fast paced, it never felt like insta-love! Ryan is totally swoony and I was definitely rooting for both Ryan and Emma to figure out their feelings for each other, and quick!

She stared up at his dark silhouette, wishing she could see his eyes. Maybe it was adrenaline or the prospect of death. She put her hands on his neck, but she didn't stop there. She slid her fingers into the thick softness of his hair and did what she'd been dying to do all night.

She kissed him.

If you are looking for a book that has non-stop action and super steamy moments, then this is the perfect book for you. Actually, it is more of a novella than a book, because it is so short! I wish this would have just been one book, because it is annoying that I have to wait for part II. I would have rather had it been one book instead of two novellas. This part ended on a big cliffhanger, so I am DYING to read what happens next.

What I loved about this book was the action. I felt like I was constantly on the edge of my seat. It honestly felt like I was reading an action movie in book form. Laura knows how to write an exciting novel! The only issue I had with the plot of the book was that I wish the first "part" of this novella would have been longer. I would have liked to see a little bit more of the rescue mission, but that was the only issue I really had with the plot of the book.

I really liked the main female character of this book, Emma. I thought she was strong, smart, kind, and hilarious. I think the author did a great job at making her a character I could relate to, but also look up to. The main male character was Ryan, and he was awesome. He was the perfect alpha male. I fell for him instantly. I cannot wait to see more of him in part II.

The romance in this book could possibly been seen as insta-love, but I think it was more insta-lust. Ryan and Emma definitely had sparks right from the beginning, and it lead to some very steamy moments. I liked that the romance was prominent in this book, but it wasn't the entire plot. The romance was just an awesome bonus to the action packed plot.

The only thing I did not like about the romance was the one steamy scene in this book. In one of the scenes, Emma basically forced herself on Ryan. I know he wanted to get "personal" with her, but he didn't want to at that exact moment. It was just strange because it felt like Emma was forcing him to do something he didn't want to do.

Overall, I really enjoyed this novella. It was sexy and extremely exciting. I cannot wait to read part two so I can see what happens after that crazy cliffhanger!

Emma Wright works with an Ambassador’s wife giving aid and they are just wrapping up a mission in the Philippines when their plane crashes. Her rescuer Ryan Owen is part of an élite SEAL team known as the Alpha Crew.

Emma and Ryan had an immediate attraction to each other that went beyond rescuer. He admires her fearlessness and quick thinking but she is the assignment and he quickly squashes thought of her naked and in his arms. The two share a heated kiss initiated by Emma before she is whisked away. We know their story is far from over and I was excited to see what developed next.
Now back in California Ryan is debriefed and despite thoughts of Emma, he is waiting for his next assignment. When Emma shows up unexpectedly, he knows something is not quite right and he soon finds himself protecting her once again.

Emma has been making waves regarding the plane crash. When she hears the preliminary investigation is focusing on pilot error, she begins making callings. These calls unknowingly placed her in danger. I cannot stop the niggling feeling that there is a lot more to Emma then we know. Filled with twists and turns Griffin pulled me into this edgy suspense. We know very little, and what we do know makes us begin to question everything. Who is in on it? What does Emma know?

The romance at this point is strictly physical as Ryan tried not to cross a professional line but Emma is having none of that. The chemistry felt genuine and both characters are strong, confident, and intelligent which causes some bickering and differences of opinion. Ryan thinks like a SEAL and this take-charge mentality clashes with Emma’s. I am looking forward to seeing them connect more and develop a real relationship.

At the Edge was a fast-paced novella and I had a great time with it, but would have appreciated the depth a full-length novel would bring even if the story spanned several books. The cliffhanger had me immediately diving into Edge of Surrender.

This is a real fast read (as in short) and part 1 represents 1/2 a book. This is not a complete story but ends on a cliffhanger. (UGH - I hate hate hate this format!) Laura Griffin usually writes stand alone books that are part of a series which I absolutely love. In fact the Tracer Series is my all time favorite series.

This on the other hand is not a full story, but it does cost $3.99 which is basically the price of a full story. This is such a bummer.

I don't like partial stories. And it's hard to review a partial story, so I won't provide a full review until I read the second half of the book.

So far the writing is sound, the MCs are starting to be developed but we don't really know them yet, secondary characters are faceless and undeveloped names. This half of the story has focused on the insta-lust between the two MCs and we don't have as much of the suspense (actually the cliffhanger is the suspense) as Ms. Griffin normally delivers.

I received this free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Ryan is a Navy SEAL, part of a team that located and rescued Emma when the small plane she was in crashed in the Philippine jungle. She's the only survivor from a US Government delegation that included her boss, a powerful senator's wife.

After returning stateside, Ryan realizes Emma is being followed, possibly by people very high up who don't want the truth of the crash to come to light.

I've never read a Laura Griffin I didn't enjoy, and this is no exception. It was fast paced and kept my attention. My complaint, hence the 4 star review, is that this ends in a cliffhanger. I've never enjoyed them and see no need to drag it out, especially as this is only a little over 100 pages.

At The Edge is a heart-pounding, suspenseful and sexy read!

We meet Emma, who is part of the Ambassador of Philippine’s wife’s detail and about to get on a plane and you can feel her nerves as she gets ready to take off, we all feel this nervousness during a flight, but hers was justified when the plane crashes and she’s the only survivor. Emma is a strong character and does everything she can to protect herself in the jungle as well as try to find safety, she never expected to meet Ryan, or the rest of his crew who were sent there to save any survivors of the crash.

Ryan is a SEAL, and part of the Alpha Crew. When he was sent on the mission to find the survivors of the plane crash, and saw Emma’s picture, he knew she’d be the one who would survive, but he can’t let his attraction to her, stop him from doing his job and what he was trained to do.

Instantly you can feel the attraction between these two, but also the fear of what Emma has gone through as well as what is about to come. Emma, even going through something as traumatic as she has, is strong, and looking for answers when she’s back in the States, and of course she seeks out Ryan. When the see each other again, you can feel the chemistry between them oozing off of your Kindle and all I wanted was for them to hook up, because I knew it would be amazing.

Things between Ryan and Emma are hot and cold, until they are just hot. Someone is after Emma, and she’s not backing down with finding out answers about the crash, so when Ryan saves her again, things get hot and heavy quickly. Ryan knows its wrong, but he couldn’t stop once everything started. He’s definitely an alpha-male and I loved this about him, but at times I got frustrated because he doesn’t see how strong Emma really is and thinks the things she is feeling are because of what she’s gone through.

I adored this story and with the ending that we got in At the Edge, I am so freaking happy I have the second book on my Kindle waiting to be read. I need to know what happens next for Emma and Ryan and the full story behind the crash! If you’re looking for a hot alpha-male, and a steamy and suspenseful story, I highly suggest picking up At The Edge by Laura Griffin today!

I have received this book as a member of the XOXperts, XOXO After Dark’s official street team, in exchange for an honest review.

I deliberately waited until I had both parts before I began reading and that did pay off at least, but knowing how this one ended certainly made me understand the frustrations of those who had to wait for the second part for the story's (less than satisfactory) conclusion.

Yet Laura Griffin's foray into military romantic suspense apart from her Tracers series seems like a tentative one, but the Alpha Crew series already has the potential to be as successful as her Texas crime-busters one - if 'Beyond Limits' (a sure favourite of mine) is any indication of what she can do with SEALs and strong women.

I loved the way we are plunged straight into adventure and danger: a plane crash, a stubborn woman who does everything to survive (realistically so) and a SEAL determined to protect her at all costs, even as an unexpected attraction flares between them. Yet I neither hated nor loved both protagonists though, since I simply thought it was more lust (the immediate burn of attraction) than love that connected them, all the way to the very abrupt end. There isn't much depth to both Emma and Ryan for me to be really invested in them, nor is there a satisfying 'Hollywood style' taking down of the bad guy - the pace of the story is both a boon and a bane for character development in this case - and I'd actually hoped for something more concrete and poignant by the time I turned the last page.

I will just lay this out there so there is no misunderstanding. I love Laura Griffin's books. I have never read one that has been less than a 4 star rating and she is a consistent 5 star for me. I knew going in that this was only 1/2 of the story and dang, I just hate that. Luckily for me, I have the second half as an ARC too. That doesn't make it easy for everyone else though and I feel for you, especially if you like her work as this set of two Alpha Crew books is going to set you back some money. But, it is worth it.

Sexy, Sweaty SEAL. What more do you need to know? Well, I'll tell you just a little more. Emma is the assistant to the wife of the United States Ambassador to the Philippines. I was lucky enough to receive a review copy of this book. Let me tell you, I was VERY lucky because the book was so good! Packed full of action with characters you will fall in love with this book had it all Emma s rescued by a team of elite SEALS after being the lone survivor of a plane crash that went down in the rain forest of a small island in the Philippians, killing her boss, the wife of the ambassador.
Her life is put in danger as she works to clear the pilots name when she discovers that the official verdict for the crash was being put down as pilot error.
Ryan was a part of the team of SEALS that rescued Emma and is now determined to keep her safe as the danger escalates around her!
AS usual Larua Griffin does an excellent job pulling you into the story and leaving you wanting more!
Next Please!

4 stars!

At The Edge was a fantastic read! With 256 pages, it was jam packed with suspense, drama and romance! This romantic suspense was just what I needed.

Emma's plane crashes and she is the only survivor. The team of SEALS who come rescue her of course are all hot alpha males. The best type, especially Ryan, the one who finds her. He is really impressed with her survival instinct. And he finds her really attractive!

Once they make it back home, Emma just can't let it go and starts to investigate the plane crash. Which somebody doesn't like. She looks up Ryan and he isn't too friendly with her.

But fate pushed them together and they are forced to spend the night together. And WHEW! It's scorching between these two!! Just when things were building up....BAM we were left hanging. Good thing the next book is already out! I'm going in!!

She's starving, injured, dehydrated and barely survived a plane crash and yet witching 5 minutes of meeting she's thoroughly checking out and lusting the dude saving her life.
He's supposedly a professional who is there to save her, she covered in mud and is panicking and he can't stop having fantasies about her. Again, within 5 minutes of meeting.

I hate this type of writing. Unbelievably unrealistic. Sorry *shrugs* you lost me there. Maybe next time give them an hour or so to get acclimated before you have them slobbering all over each other. Or I don't know, maybe have a little survival mode before or something.

I enjoyed this story and these characters right up until the point where the author ended it in an abrupt cliffhanger with massively unresolved storylines and relationships between the MCs.

This wasn't a short story or a novella; this was half of a full-length novel (and I'm beyond irritated that I was duped into paying for half a book).

I received a free copy of this novella from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Up-front warning, this is Part One of a two-part novel - it says it in the title - there is a cliffhanger.

I am, by and large, a fan of Laura Griffin's Tracers series. I have issues occasionally with one or two of her male characters who dial up the alpha but I really enjoy the mysteries so I was very excited to see the start of a new series about a super-secret group of Navy SEALs called the Alpha Crew.

Our female lead is Emma Wright, she is the aide to Renee Connor, wife to the US Ambassador to the Philippines. After an aid mission trip to one of the islands Emma, Renee and Dr Juan Delgado are flying back when their plane runs into trouble and crash-lands. Alpha Crew are sent after the plane to rescue any survivors. Ryan Owen is the leader of Alpha Crew. Because so much of this novella is set up for part two it is difficult to say more without recounting the whole plot.

I liked Emma Wright, she was normal and feisty - when she went for help in the jungle she reacted both in the way I expect I would (terrified, imagining the worst) and the way I hope I would (calming herself down, being resourceful). Then, when she gets back from the jungle she is tenacious and campaigns for a proper investigation into why the plane crashed.

Ryan is rugged and handsome (duh, Navy SEAL isn't good-looking the first test in BUD/s?), he does have unfortunate alphahole tendencies but Emma just blasts right through them - yey!

Because this is romantic suspense and only part one I have LOADS of questions:

Overall, while I'm not a fan of the cliffhanger, I enjoyed this novella very much. It was well-written, fast-paced with engaging characters and an intriguing plot. I eagerly await part two.
