These lectures provide students and specialists with preliminary and valuable information from university courses and seminars in mathematics. This set gives new proof of the h-cobordism theorem that is different from the original proof presented by S. Smale.

The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.
Milnor is an excellent mathematical writer, and the high-level outline of the proof is well-told, and the result is of the great results of topology. However, the details feel that they have not fully settled and could have a more straightforward and conceptually enlightening treatment.
Not sure what we should expect of a math book, It was a very clear and nice proof on h-Cobordism theorem, and generalized Poincare conjecture, one of the most important facts in Topology , but it was a very bad book from educational point of view. Maybe we shouldn't call it a book at all, a proof with some of it's prerequisites.
