The book is actually nice, but here are the things that bothered me.
1. The heroine:
I wanna slap some sense into her. She was a whining bitch at the first part of the book. I kinda get her point why she was hurt and why she was not talking to her family and to Robinson, but THE POINT THAT SHE STILL HOLDS A GRUDGE WHEN THE SCENE WAS PROPERLY EXPLAINED TO HER WAS ANNOYING TO THE HIGHEST LEVEL!
I don't like people who, when a misunderstanding was cleared up still decided to become an annoying chick just because they won't suck it and grow up.
Argh.Fuck those kind of people.
2. The I-can't-believe-you-love-me-too part
Too abrupt for me. I want to prolong this phase, just once, because I want the heroine to have some sleepless nights wondering if Robinson love her or if he's just being nice.
3. The hero.
Eeeh. He's too nice. Too bland.Give me three books after this and I'll forget this hero existed already..
4. The heroine's reaction when she saw two rats. (One is dead, the other is alive)
I DO WONDER...:
If you saw a (living) rat, would you scream? Me? No. They're dirty, yes. But to scream bloody murder when all the rat did was twitched his nose at you?
OVERREACTING.
Now, how about a dead rat? Would you still scream? If yes, then don't be surprise if I slap you. It's dead for pete's sake!
Surprised to see a rat? Acceptable. Be an award-winning actress when you saw the animal? Fuck no.
Now why I am defending the honor of rats?Because I feel like there's been some injustice going on here..
Not a fan of the other books in this series. But I really wanted to read Jana's story so here we are.
It's easy to call the heroine annoying, but in this case I think her feelings and actions were completely justified. She had a brother who was into hardcore drugs and the next thing you know, he has custody of his daughter. Say what? I think anyone in her situation would've been equally upset, and nobody else in the family was really helping the matter. Ultimately she just needed time, and I think the pace of this book showcased that perfectly. Plus I really liked the hero :)
As with the second book in the series, this one was a bit of a let down after the first. The first was refreshing and unique (if totally improbable) the second and third did not live up to it. One thing that would have helped was adding the male POV- the first book switched back and forth and that was part of it's charm - with that set up in the first book the next two seemed to be missing half the story.
Cute series- review on this book and all 3 as series
I read these 3 books one after the other in just a few days. There are a few things vs that set them apart from other books in this genre.
First- It does take itself very seriously. It is funny and light. It doesn't pretentious to be more than it is- a light romantic comedy.
B- presents the characters at a reasonable age. I have read and enjoyed some of the more popular romance books of late. But one thing that really bothers me is the unrealistic age of the millionaire business moguls. I hate they make these guys 26 years old. It is possible suppose, but the truth is that most people that age are still learning. The men in this block are all successful, but they are 38, 39 years old. It is much more believable to have a successful plastic surgery center or law firm at those ages than in their late 20's.
#3- the sex is sexy but the author doesn't use the overly descriptive ridiculous language that often makes me cringe. I mean, most of these romance books should come with a sequel called UTI.
This series isn't perfect. Some of the ages and the timeline don't seem accurate all the time. I didn't really start to question it until this book.
It probably could have delved a little deeper into the characters, especially the Oliver fAmily itself. What happened to their parents, where did they get their money. How was their relationship before all this. In the first book they sounded closer and closer in age. Also, the development of Leah and Sarah. Did Leah go to college or something. Why did she move to NYC in the first place. It isn't a place you just move to work part time in an apothecary new age shop. She said she only worked there a few month and there is no explanation about her real professional skills or if she actually went to college.
Ok, I get it, all siblings r now happy with their own family.
I do love the first book, the story line r so interesting, a girl to give the ring she found n try her best to return. Even what she did may broke the law, she insist to find out the owner n return the ring to him.
Second is a story that man hurts when his love dies. Meet another woman n heal his cuts.
Third is brother's best friend in love with the younger sister. Nothing special but glad Jenna n Rob finally together.
This is book is another great book to the series. If you have not read the first 2 books I recommend that you do that before reading this book.
Jana has had a rough go of things for a while now and she needs a change of pace. Everyone in the family is finding love and she has yet to.
Jana gave up her job to take care of her niece when her brother disappeared and had a drug issue. She raised her niece until her brother came home and cleaned up his act. Robinson the family lawyer helped with the process. The whole process left jana in shock, angry, and lost.
She moved back into her apartment where she was all alone and with nothing to do. On a whim she decide to buy a house. She also assumed she could fix it up without any issues. She runs into some trouble and meets a good looking handyman.
Meanwhile Robinson refused to give Jana the space she has requested. She is mad at him for everything that happened and she just wants space. Robinson has some issued staying away and not talking to her which ends up leading to a whole bunch of things happening.
This is a must read if you have enjoyed the other books in the series. Find out if Jana finds love, fixes up her new house, and to find out what happens with Robinson. A great book that has humor and romance.
I absolutely loved the first book in this series. It was quirky and funny - such fun and I would totally recommend it. But book 2 and 3 just fell flat. Such a bummer. They weren't bad per say just nothing like book one and what I expected after that book.
After the horrible second book my expectations for the third one were pretty low. I knew from the beginning it would be Rob, even though I had some hopes in-between that she might give the cute plumber a chance but unfortunately that never happened. Well, in the end it was okay but I was pretty disappointed that she forgave Jeremy so easy in the end. I was waiting for an apology that he never tried to reach out to her before taking Cassie away and I still think it is unrealistic that they all insisted that the courts would have done so without proof that Jeremy is sober, in therapy and can provide a stable environment for his baby daughter. They might have given him Cassie back but under certain conditions and with a social worker involved but that's water under the bridge as Elle Casey has other ideas.
In the end, I was okay with how the series ended but I'm still not sure I need another book from her again soon. The writing itself was great and while the first book was hilarious, I found it hard to laugh through all the grief and anger in the second book. The third book however was doing great again with the humour but I guess the second book simply spoiled the rest for me. I wanted to like it but the spark from the first book was just gone. Therefore, three stars for an okay read and I will probably not read another book by this author again soon if ever or at least not a series again as there seems to be a second-book-in-a-series-curse with Elle Casey.
I would give this book 2 stars if not for Rob. He's the only good thing here, aside from glimpses of James-Leah and Jeremy-Sarah. As for Jana, well I couldn't care less about her. Super self centered (I once thought of her so selfless to take care of Cassie) but other than that all she thought about was herself. That she's the only one with all the problems in the world. Well maybe at first you will feel down and sad to have someone you cared dearly as your own child got returned to her rightful parent. But did you really have to keep wallowing, couldn't move on and kept on blaming other people? *sigh* I really thought Rob was too good for her.
Fun book. You will enjoy it even more if you read the first book in the series beforehand.
Once you get used to the first person style of thoughts and spoken words of the main characters back and forth it is really fun. Both main characters Jana and Robinson have secretly crushed on each other for years as family friends with Rob being the bestie of Jana's decade older. Brother. They were both clueless to the mutual attraction. Making it a classic romance with a lot of heartfelt issues and depths. If you enjoy a good modern story with a happy ending you will love this series.
Loved this book, actually the whole series so far!!! Jana had loved Rob for such a long time. It wasn't until a bad accident happened in her family that changed Jana's life. She became a short term parent for her niece Cassie. When her brother got his life back together Cassie was returned to him and that left Jana feeling sad, angry and lost. Jana pushed away all her loved ones and especially made it difficult between her long time crush and family friend, Rob. Love this series, you done well Elle, hope there is a book 4, Jake maybe............
Beautiful book, beautiful touching story specially if you have read this series in order! Which is why I strongly recommend for you to read this series IN ORDER.
After the second book you already know the long journey that those characters are suppose to take and yet the author manages to develops new way that makes the journey become even prettier and emotional.
Wonderful book, I just wish this family was bigger and we could have more in the series!
I read all three of the "Love in New York" series during an especially rainy week end . The stories were engaging, but not repetitive. Characters were well drawn, and unique. The one fault I found was the speed of each relationship and marriages. Not bad enough to put me off the books, but disconcerting. Good read, will try more of your books.
This was another great story by Elle Casey. I love that all the characters fall together as one big happy family, even with their ups and downs. It was a very long time coming together for Rob and Jana but they finally stopped listening to those around them and went with their hearts.
very good, the only negative feedback is I was hoping very an epilogue which would wrap up the three installments. I am always bothered when I am so drawn in to characters but don't get a comprehensive glimpse of where they ended up. When you just focus on the snippet of their lives during the duration of the series you are missing a sense of closure.
The last sentence gave me goose bumps. Holy cow. Jana annoyed the heck out of me. At least twice I thought wouldn't finish reading the story. I wanted to bitch slap the whiney pathetic character. Ha! I guess story sex made her grow a pair--Jake. A chance of Val and Jake together I thought was a novel idea.
I recently heard that a well-written story contains at least one crisis. Well, Mr. Fixit fits that criteria right alongside a variety of highs and lows. More than one character experiences personal challenges and triumphs. Lots of joy, too. This is the third in a series I have enjoyed more than expected. Can hardly wait for number four!
Jana and Robs love story was told in such a way that made you feel like you were right there with them going through all of the struggles and heartbreak and finally love. A must read!!!!
The story was shorter than the others but the same good vibes and feelings. Same ups and downs.
This story was about the youngest sisters and the older brother's BFF. It was a good story and had a little more romance than the other series. I liked it. I'm not sure if that was because it quenched my curiosity to conclude the series or if I genuinely liked it. I felt like as the series went on, I just wanted to answers to the questions from the previous series not that I really loved it - but I did like it. This book was okay...my favorite in the series was book 2. But they were all pretty good.
This was about Jana (youngest Oliver sister) and Robinson (Oldest Oliver's BFF). They have had a crush on each other for over a decade. They start the book on the outs from something that happened in the last book. It boils over until all the feelings come out and they decide to give it a try.
There is a hint of a new book in the series but its not an Oliver so I'm curious which series it will end up on. I'll wait to see.
Jana went from being a likable character to so annoying and then finally redeeming herself in this 3rd book in a series about a sister and 2 brothers who find love. Jana is bitter. Young and heartbroken because the niece she has taken care of since birth was returned to Jeremy-her drug using brother who has earned his custodial rights back. Jana's anger is aimed solely at long time family friend and attorney Robinson. He handled the case- but Jana's life long crush on him affects her fury. Robinson tries to apologize and help her fix up a wreck of a home she bought. Jana's harping goes on a tad too long for me and I found it difficult to finish reading. But the last 3rd of the book made it worthwhile. Robinson has always been a polished gq type attorney. Jana discovers he has moves with tools and other secrets she never knew. It takes a long time to repair a home and almost longer for their romance to finally start.
