Tiesitkös muuten, millainen on mustan himmelin koti?

Blame it on my himmeli craze (I’ve made a few dozen over the last few weeks), but without doubt, this is a great book covering all my questions about the subject! It’s packed with information, facts, and ideas to make your own, and much more!

This beautifully illustrated book really helped me understand some traditional Christmas customs. Now I would like to make some himmeli, but am intimidated even though this book comes with great instructions and pictures.

I was excited when I discovered this book in the Helsinki Design Museum. A whole book about Himmeli, translated into English. I had to buy it immediately!

It's a gorgeous book with beautiful photos and inspiration for many different Himmeli designs.

My favorite part of the book is the history chapter. The different ways Himmeli-decorations have been used in Finland versus in Sweden, is surprisingly indicative of the cultures that pervade these two neighbouring countries.

My only caveat with the book is, that I wish the design instructions were a bit more instructive. I had to watch an online DIY video tutorial to understand how the base shape is made.

People who are looking for a beginners instruction book on how to make Himmeli, will likely not find it here. This book is better suited for people who already know how to make a classic Himmeli and are looking for ways to further develop their craft.
