Mary Pope Osborne is an American author of children's books and audiobook narrator. She is best known as the author of the Magic Tree House series, which as of 2017 sold more than 134 million copies worldwide. Both the series and Osborne have won awards, including for Osborne's charitable efforts at promoting children's literacy. One of four children, Osborne moved around in her childhood before attending the University of North Carolina. Following college, Osborne traveled before moving to New York City. She somewhat spontaneously began to write, and her first book was published in 1982. She went on to write a variety of other children's and young adult books before starting the Magic Tree House series in 1992. Osborne's sister Natalie Pope Boyce has written several compendium books to the Magic Tree House series, sometimes with Osborne's husband Will Osborne.
Still continuing my own Magic Tree House journey. Determined to read all of the published book. I still love the first four and I still love these three. If you're someone who wants to go on a journey in the past and maybe the future I definitely recommend this series.
I'm currently listening to this series (again) with my kids. They love the series and I realized I hadn't ever left reviews of them.
These ones are fun, as Jack and Annie go on a quest to save Morgana by collecting 4 "M things". My favorite part of the series is how well done both Jack and Annie's personalities show through, but I also really like how much they teach.
four books together complete a decent part of jack and annie's story, but it is broken up nicely for little ones. my daughter and i have hit a stride with these and read one every three or four nights.
So, my kindergarten-aged son loves these. Which is why I continue to read them, despite the lack of character growth and my inability to suspend reality (these kids are repeatedly in seriously dangerous situations but somehow manage to survive every time; apparently everyone around the world and in all time periods spoke English; and Jack and Annie are possibly the best secret keepers of all time - I know my son would be telling me all about that treehouse).
Will I keep reading the series? Yes, but only as long as my son wants to find out what Jack and Annie are up to.
I like these 4 books together and the overarching theme tying them together of helping Morgan to find 4 things to break the curse that has turned her into a mouse they call peanut. The Ninja and Amazon books are good. I like the added premise of going to the future on the moon. The ice age one was a little weird with the sorcerer plot. Still enjoying reading these with my boys.
Oh look at the stick ah an alligator. A vine grab it Jack oh no a snake we need to get on land but we cant paddle with are hands !theirs piranhas .whats worse a jaguar! And they see one!
My second grader definitely enjoys reading these. We have been reading them together- taking turns in the pages - but he’s read to read the rest of these on his own.
This story that I read today was about saving Morgan and getting all the ingredients to make a potion to save her from a evil spell . It was early in the morning when Jack and Annie were awake. they got dressed and went down stairs to go to the tree house in frog creek woods. In the tree house, They saw a book that was supposed to help Morgan with the evil spell. The book contained the magic words for morgan. Jack and Annie wished to go there. The tree house then spun and spun until it stopped. they went into the woods the the tree house landed in and found a river. they wanted to reach another land, but they did not know what can get them across. Then, Annie suddenly found a boat next to a tree. They both went in the boat and went in the river. Annie saw a pretty fish in the water, but actualy, it was a piraña. Then, a monkey approached them. It was acting crazy and throwing fruits at Annie and Jack. Jack found out that the monkey was throwing fruits because there was a waterfall up ahead. The monkey wanted to help them, so he threw a vine so they can climb to land. Annie said that she wanted to go home, but Jack wanted to find the next ingredient for Morgan. The first ingredient they found was the fruit the monkey threw at them. Then, they both found the ingredients and went home. They said the magic spell that the monkey gave them, and also used the objects the found. The end!!!!!
My first grader has been reading these. I was trying to give them a quick read too, but I've gotten a little busy and haven't kept up (even though my little one has slowed down from one book a day to one every other day). He still likes to tell me a little about some of the books or read me a chapter or two (he insisted on reading me a bit of Sunset of the Saber Tooth ... he had a hard time saying "cro-magnon," I think I do too!). He's continuing to like the series. We don't have all the future ones (we had through 1-9 in our home library, plus one or two of the later ones) but the library has them, most also available for digital download too (so he may be reading some future ones on the ipad). I might look into downloading some audio too and seeing if he likes that sometimes too.
a great collection of stories for the early reader inspires independence
night of the ninja's
two young siblings find a magic tree house that suddenly transports them to japan
afternoon on the amazon
two young siblings find a magic tree house that suddenly transports them to the amazon
sunset of the saber tooth is a story of two young children trying to find out the mystery behind the loss of the ice age and its great animal extinction
midnight on the moon two young siblings find a magic tree house that suddenly transports them to the historical landing on the moon
This book swept me away to this other wonderful world. The setting was brilliantly set. I could totally see it in my mind. But the characters were definitely my favorite part. They are all so colorful, interesting, exciting, and hilarious. The main character is just perfect. The plot moved fast enough that I couldn't stop reading lest I miss something, but the author still took the time to flesh out the details. The details are what really make or break a story.
This is my second time through the series. I started reading it 7 years ago to my then almost 5 year old. He started reading at a young age, so within a year, he was on his own =( I read a few to my middle, but she too took off with them. NOw, my almost 6 year old and I are reading through them all. I think I love them more for me than him =)
I read these books when I was little. They really hold a special place in me, next to Nancy Drew. There was always something so interesting about Jack and Annie. Mary Pope Osborne did an incredible job!
