Play On #2

Hot. Intense. Relentless.

Rory Cameron is all about rugby. He’s been playing since he was a wee bairn in Edinburgh. By now, he should be a powerhouse with his single-minded dedication to the Traverse City Blues Rugby Club. But something is missing. With his dad breathing down his neck to make a big club, the last thing he needs is a sassy country girl distracting him.

Grace making the men’s team? Improbable. Rory coaching a women’s rugby team? Unbelievable. Falling for the girl¬? Absolutely.

Grace Bowman moves to Michigan to forge a new life without her family’s constant mothering. She refuses to let her diabetes keep her from the life she craves. Time to live big and take chances—carpe diem and all that. Still, the last thing she expects is for things to heat up with the coach of the women’s rugby team. If her new lifestyle doesn’t kill her, rugby just might. But Grace is willing to take the chance for a winning try with Rory.

This book irritates me because it is close to being a great book but falls short.

Everything that is here is very good but truncated.

For example, there is a point where Rory freaks out but it is really not explored, processed, or integrated.

The heroine is reckless with her health and this is a key and compelling element of the story but we don't get to see her growing and changing. The book just ends.

Rory makes a big personal change and again we barely get a taste of his new life.

The love story is stunted which makes sense given the character but we don't get to see it bloom.

This has a more Happy for Now ending which is not my favorite.

I love the rugby and the psychology in the book The characters are really human and the pairing is good but it all needs more depth and completion.

I am hoping the third book in the series will move in this direction.

This is the second book in C.D. Brennan's Play On series about a rugby team in Michigan. I love these guys and feel like the rugby backdrop is wonderful for romance since many players tend to originate in the UK. So, Scots are my weakness, and Rory is no exception. He is the strong, silent type, which makes him the perfect hero for the spunky heroine. My only issue with this book is that I was constantly concerned for the heroine with her health issues (diabetes), and with good reason. Sometimes contemporary books are difficult for me to read because the issues are too real, and that is definitely what was going on for me here. I have a nephew who was recently diagnosed with Type I diabetes which probably shaped my view of this book a bit. That being said, the romance and heat is all there, and I will be back for any other rugby books Ms. Brennan releases.

I truly enjoyed this second installment in the Play On Series. I've been eagerly anticipating the new book and was not disappointed. Rory is a Scots in Michigan, trying to make a name for himself in the world of rugby. The only problem is, he isn't doing it for himself as much as for his father. Grace is a Texas spitfire who is trying hard to take control of her life. She has a medical condition she is struggling to manage along with managing her attraction to the shy Scots athlete who is suddenly her roommate. As I read their story, both on and off the field, I knew they would become champions. But hiccups along the way could trip them up, stranding each of them a world apart.
The writing in this book was superb and evocative. I loved the description, the characters and the fact I learned more about the sport of rugby. Truly well done, and a book I'd gladly recommend to everyone.

Rory lives and breathes rugby and is avoiding what makes him happy. Grace travels half the country just to get cold and avoid deadweight she harbors. At a chance meeting Rory isSmitten by her charm. This is a really lovely story, a nice balance with the friends and the couple. This is an honest review for a copy I was given. This is my first time reading this author. this story was well written, it was all so fresh and down-to-earth but yet powerful. I can't wait to start reading the other books.

This is my second rugby romance by Cd Brennan. It's a wonderful story of two injured people who come together and discover the truth not only about themselves but what love really means. I can't wait for the next one!
