No Nuts for Me! by Aaron Zevy is a children's picture book used to explain the severity of food allergies to children. When i was younger, my parents read this book to me to help explain why I can't eat nuts myself. Reading the book recently, I have an appreciation for the book even more. My parents did a very good job of using books to help explain topics such as food allergies, sex education, and even potty training when I was younger and i honestly still remember those books and the information I learned from them. This book in particular tells the story of a little boy who is allergic to nuts and how his life is influenced by it. He has to be extra cautious about what he eats and is an excellent way to explain this concept to children. All allergies are different and this book does not touch on all of the things that people have to watch out for or really teach a lot of lessons to children about how to safely live in caution, yet that is why this book is intended to be used as an introduction. When i first found out I was allergic to some foods, I was confused and really didn't seem to live cautiously, but this book has helped me to understand that I need to be careful with my diet. One way this could be incorporated into a classroom is by reading it allowed to the class and informing the class of anyone's potential food allergies so that everyone knows 1, what allergies are and 2, who has allergies and what triggers them. I always felt uncomfortable about my own allergies, but making it a little more public by informing the class in this way may increase their comfortability with it and allow for other children to also remain cautious of that student's allergies. This would give you the opportunity to expand upon this book by saying things like, 'Sally is allergic to nuts too, but she can't touch them or this will happen to her... so as a class, we will need to do this..." Overall, great introductory book.

This book was awkward. Im not really sure what age level it was geared towards. The pictures made me believe it was for much younger readers but the content didnt match, because it was more difficult. Also, it was very wordy without saying much.

I had a few issues with the book. No where in the book did it talk about hand washing, staying away from nuts. Children with nut allergies shouldnt even sit next to or touch another child's food that contains nuts. Also, it said "nuts" but didnt talk about all the different types of nuts or even mention peanuts, which are a very common type of nut kids encounter. "No nuts for me" can be confusing, it isnt implied that peanuts are one type of nut.

Overall this book was "eh".
