Excerpt from England in Egypt
A new edition of 'England in Egypt' having become necessary, I have been fortunate in inducing my friend Mr. Clinton Dawkins, who for the last four years has occupied my old post of Under-Secretary for Finance, to supply a brief summary of the recent important events in Egypt and the Sudan. When the fifth edition appeared in the spring of 1894, I wrote a preface bringing the narrative potion of the original work down to that date. On the present occasion I should have been at a great disadvantage in attempting to do this again. Deeply interested as I still am in Egypt, and following the course of events as closely as is possible from a distance, I yet necessarily lack that inside knowledge which gave 'England in Egypt' whatever value it possessed.

ألفريد ميبنؤ يتحدث في الكتاب عن فترة دخول انجلترا في مصر بمشاركة قوات أوروبية في فترة القرن التاسع عشر
يتحدث ميلنر عن مصر على أنها دولة ناقصة السيادة فيها من الجهل بكل شيء حتى بقيادة الدولة اقتصاديا وسياسيا ما يسمح حرفيا بتدخل الجميع من كل انحاء العالم لمنحها وأهلها حق الحياة على اعتبار انهم نوع بائس متدني من البشر
نظرة استعلاء في الحديث عن المصريين وحكوماتهم بكل تغييراتها رغم رفض العديد من قيادات حكومة مصر للتدخل البريطاني الفج في كل شؤونها الداخلية والخارجية رغم تأكيد بريطانيا من البداية على ان الوضع هكذا لمجرد الاهتمام بعلاقات مصر الدولية وديونها الخارجية ومساعدتها اقتصاديا بتعليم الحكومة كسفية ادارة الشؤون الاقتصادية للبلاد
لكن بعد تمكنهم من السيطرة على العلاقات الخارجية يقررون التدخل في الشؤون الداخلية ايضا بحجة انه لا يمكن المساعدة خارجيا بدون تغيير الوضع داخليا بما يرونه مناسبا لسياساتهم هم.
لتقرر حكومة صاحبة الجلالة البريطانية تأجيل اجلاء الجيش البريطاني وحكومته لموعد بعيد حتى تضمن سلام مصر الداخلي والخارجي لينصبوا انفهم اولياء على مصر شعبا وحكومة
اسلوب ميلنر مليء بعنصرية شديدة ونظرة احادية متعالية لدولة ذات سيادة واهمية وتاريخ وحضارة عريقة
لم استطع اكمال الكتاب للاسف بعد ان وصلت للمنتصف حيث يغلب على الكتاب طابع الحديث المطول والمكرر مع الأسف وتاريخ طويل من العنصرية ومعاملة استعبادية بشكل كبير
ترجمة الصديق يوسف حسام جيدة جدا لكن للاسف اسلوب ميلنر لم يجذبني ولم اجد ما يفيد لمعرفة تاريخ تلك الفترة بالتفصيل من وجهة نظر محايدة للمعسكرين المصري والبريطاني

I'm translating this book to arabic and i hope that it get published, the things i didn't like about the book is it doesn't includes any references but i passed this point as i started reading soon, the numbers and measurements didn't bother me as anyway i don't bother myself with them very much and i don't try to see how much then worth now i just try to catch the significance of the number that the author tries to point to, the author has very racist and narcist comments (but i think that was normal back then), sometimes i think the British people back then believed in a way the hero complex that the great Brittan is coming to save all you ignorant peasants from the darkness of ignorance, as a writer sometimes i find problems in the sentence composition but that's all the flaws.
on the other hand the book is really good and points directly to the core of problem without any shame (which some Egyptians do when they try to address a problem), it's a new perspective which isn't completely true not completely false but it integrates what we as Egyptians get teached at school about this era, the author is a great politician also very smart and sharp at some points, a recommended book surely for whom interested in history of muhammed ali and his descendants era.
and i hope my translation get published for such a good book to be available for us too.
