Written in stolen moments under truck chassis and on park benches to a soundtrack of The Downward Spiral and Pablo Honey, Fight Club came into existence. The adaptation of Fight Club was a flop at the box office, but achieved cult status on DVD. The film’s popularity drove sales of the novel. Chuck put out two novels in 1999, Survivor and Invisible Monsters. Choke, published in 2001, became Chuck’s first New York Times bestseller. Chuck’s work has always been infused with personal experience, and his next novel, Lullaby, was no exception. Chuck credits writing Lullaby with helping him cope with the tragic death of his father. Diary and the non-fiction guide to Portland, Fugitives and Refugees, were released in 2003. While on the road in support of Diary, Chuck began reading a short story entitled 'Guts,' which would eventually become part of the novel Haunted.

In the years that followed, he continued to write, publishing the bestselling Rant, Snuff, Pygmy, Tell-All, a 'remix' of Invisible Monsters, Damned, and most recently, Doomed.

Chuck also enjoys giving back to his fans, and teaching the art of storytelling has been an important part of that. In 2004, Chuck began submitting essays to ChuckPalahniuk.net on the craft of writing. These were 'How To' pieces, straight out of Chuck's personal bag of tricks, based on the tenants of minimalism he learned from Tom Spanbauer. Every month, a “Homework Assignment” would accompany the lesson, so Workshop members could apply what they had learned. (all 36 of these essays can currently be found on The Cult's sister-site, LitReactor.com).

Then, in 2009, Chuck increased his involvement by committing to read and review a selection of fan-written stories each month. The best stories are currently set to be published in Burnt Tongues, a forthcoming anthology, with an introduction written by Chuck himself.

His next novel, Beautiful You, is due out in October 2014.

Mr.Palahniuk,

You have been warned.

____________________________________________

Issue 1 review: This is basically the synopsis given to us by Chuck himself.
I'm not gonna spoil anything, if there is anything to spoil. If you've been following Palahniuk on social medias you know what I'm talking about.
I don't know what are the critics raving about since this is the introduction to Fight Club 2, nothing extraordinary here. That's not me saying it's bad, I actually liked this, and want more.

The illustrations were fantastic and fresh, narrative is "Chucky", it's still the narrative Chuck's fans adore. We are supposed to recognize characters. It is hard because, to avoid copyright, illustrators changed appearance of all characters. You'll recognize the famous trio, but you'll get lost with the rest. That's the flaw I hope they correct, like adding their names in dialogue.

All in all, you won't be disappointed but don't expect your head to explode after reading as critics suggest. If you are a real fan, support the crew and buy this. You won't regret it.

____________________________________________

Issue 2 review: We were introduced to the characters in the first, now time for things to start moving in the second issue. I like where things are going, and as with my previous issue, I want more.

Although I noticed that Chuck neglected the narration a bit. This issue doesn't contain the witty and smart narration, and when there is narration, it falls flat and we get mundane sayings which are redundant and fail to capture the moment. For example:(minor spoiler)
We are then left with a nice ending, at least it was nice for me.

I've read issues 1-7, and I must say that I'm kind of disappointed. I felt like the comic was going nowhere. There is probably a better comic to spend your money on but, again, if you're a Fight Club fan, this is worth looking at. As for my opinion for the sequel so far, it is "OK" or a tad better that "OK". Chuck needs to try harder, and needs to stop relying on people's hype. This is good, don't get me wrong, but it can be better. I'm not going to be reading this comic for a long time. It doesn't attract me anymore, but I'm glad I read it.

Marla has grown bored of her bland life and medicated husband.
description
She's taken steps to bring Tyler Durden back to make her feel alive.

This has sequel for sequels sake written all over it. There shouldn't be a Fight Club 2, but here it is. Oh well.

When I first heard that Palahniuk was writing a sequel to Fight Club, I got so excited

 photo duckling-excited-on-seeing-camera.gif

It's been freaking 15 years since I got hooked on Tyler(s) and Marla. #nostalgic

 photo adelecry.gif

They said it's a comic-book

 photo adeleeyes.gif

Which I enjoyed a lot

 photo adelelaugh.gif

The only problem is.. it's too short. And I wish it was a whole book instead of 10 booklets. Still, it's Fight Club m..f..ers! #tylerdurdenlives #rizeordie

My girl surprised me with this comic and I was really looking forward to it. Fight Club was a fantastic book, it was about what it means to conform to what society wants us to be and then realizing that society may be more flawed than the person we were before the transformation. There was some really deep social commentary on hyper masculinity and societal expectations. Then Fincher made a film that surpassed the novel. It was even deeper.

Going into Fight Club 2 I was pretty ambivilant. Sequels tend to fucking suck. The illustrations are top-notch. It is clear that a lot of thought went into them and I think it complimented Chuck's writing perfectly. There are all the elements that we love about the orginal: the satirical tone, the bizarre facts about home explosives, the detailed nuances, hilarious support groups, and subtle statements about the time we are now living in. It does have the some of the symptoms I don't like about sequels: trying too hard to hit the high notes from the original, almost making some of the beloved charecters seem like thin caricatures, and taking on a somewhat different tone. All in all, I enjoyed it, it took under ten minutes to read, and I'll be eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Ummm...

Okay, so comic books are a different format to books and I accept that. This is the first and as such really only serves as an introduction. I wouldn't like to judge a narrative by it's introduction but this just baffles me.

It feels like Palahniuk was offered a bunch of money to write a sequel they could turn into a comic and so they did. The themes, which can't really be expounded upon in comic form anyway, feel tired and cliché - they're the same lines 20 years later. Whatever Palahniuk was saying 20 years ago, it feels here like he's repeating whatever he said that got the most quotes in internet forums.

The art is sometimes pretty cool, sometimes a little dull. It's not a standout comic for it's illustration.
There are some strips where illustrations come over the foreground and cover bits of text and character's faces. An effect I have seen used to great effect in other comics, here it feels pretty pseudo-artistic.

The cover art is wicked though! I have a different cover art to the one pictured on goodreads but honestly all of the cover arts for this series look great. They should have used that artist in the books themselves!

Perhaps I'm being harsh. Perhaps the rest of the series provides a thrilling narrative with a fresh take on an aged but brilliant novel. But this introduction sadly did not leave me caring to find out.

Sebastian's been married to Marla Singer for nine years now, all the while he's been popping pills to suppress Tyler Durden, what he doesn't know, however, is Marla's been chopping his pills with Aspirin, just so Tyler can surface again. She gets her wish, and at the same time, Tyler has plans of his own. First off is the assassination of their nine year old son... The House burns with the little bastard in it...

Well, have to say, the start's not at the level I was expecting, I mean, everything's all good and stuff, but I wanted more of a bang, but the kid's gloves are still on. Or maybe my expectations are just too high? Hope the subsequent issues can match them.

Totally ruined everything I ever loved about Fight Club. Ended up being a weird narcissistic meta delving into Palahniuk's own ego.

Frustratingly bad.

Two stars because the art was pretty cool and did more to represent what Fight Club is than the words from the hipster cultist who created it.

In my head, I really love Fight Club...but it might be that my inner 20 year old remembers really loving the book and the movie and that whole energy of being young and wanting to shake up the world and smash things and find out the guy you're addicted to has bats in his belfry. I thought I was ready to read the first issue of Fight Club 2 but...either I need to reread the novel or...I need to be younger? I dunno. This issue left me feeling old and befuddled...partly because I've aged with the characters? (Marla is only two years older than me?!?) Anyhow, I had a hard time getting into the Sebastian/Tyler/storytelling rhythm, though (unsurprisingly?) Marla is easy to follow. Maybe the whole series won't focus on the depressing aspects of aging, and issue one is just setting up a reason to resurrect Tyler Durden? Regardless, I need to reread the book so I don't miss out on the details I'm sure are thrown in there.

Not really sure what the fuss is over this, lots of high ratings, I found it really dull, so dull I am struggling to find anything to write for this review, I'm close to just putting in a load of animated gifs just to fill the page.

I laughed once in this, Marla at the support group. The separation between Tyler and Sebastian was not done as well I as was hoping.

The illustrations were good, but there is the odd annoying drawing over the writing.

I was really stoked to read this but I don't want to give it a review until they release the first volume because the first issue of a comic doesn't do any justice to what's on the horizon. That being said, I knew I wouldn't hate it because it's clearly written by Chuck P and I feel pretty confident that he wouldn't be interested in ruining his most famous book with a shitty illustrated sequel. The art is just okay. It fits but I wish it had a little more edge to it.

I love you Chuck, but no, just no.
This was horrible. If your intent was for the reader to be completely lost like wandering in the mind of a nutcase, well done. But this was the most unpleasant/incoherent thing I've ever read. Are you on drugs?!
The "twist" is the most egocentric thing... And the end was as lame as saying "but this was all a dream".
I'm so mad right now.
So fuc*ing mad!

Tyler is back and he wants it all and Marla that big tourist wants the psychotic life we all seem to want.
So much better the second time.
