The holidays are starting off with a bang for Obstetrician Brooke Campbell and her girlfriend, Tess Sinclair. Six months into their relationship, the pair has fallen into a familiar routine. At least, it is as routine as any couple can get with two eight-year-olds in the mix. Life is never dull for Tess and Brooke living with Tess’s twins, Davey and Dani, and it is about to get a great deal more interesting.
Brooke and Tess make their first visit to Tess’s parents’ home for Thanksgiving. Just like Murphy’s Law, anything that can go wrong seems determined to go wrong. The Florida sun can’t seem to warm the chilly reception Tess gets from her mother. Soon, Brooke and Tess find themselves doing damage control with Dani and Davey.
With the Thanksgiving chaos behind them, Brooke embarks on a mission to find the perfect house for her new family. It seems like the perfect gift. But, change is not always as easy or as simple as Brooke would like it to be. Add a healthy dose of triple trouble twins, large batches of Christmas cookies, and the unsolicited advice of friends and family and you have a recipe for a fair amount of chaos and miscommunication. When Brooke finds what she believes is the ideal house, Tess is finally forced to voice her misgivings.
Can Brooke and Tess find a way to create the perfect home together? Sometimes the most important gifts come in the smallest packages.
Not quite as good as the first installment in the series, Special Delivery. Having said that, it was still a nice read and I look forward to the next installment...
I just started this series today. I just finished book two. I love all the characters in the story along with the storyline. If you haven't read this series you need to. I definitely recommend this series.
Second in a novella series. Dr. Brooke Campbell and Tess Sinclair are six months into their relationship. Brooke is pushing to finding a new house. Tess is committed to Brooke but her small house means security to her and her children. It is working out the communication in a new family relationship. I love Brooke's bumbling in trying to communicate. I've already got the rest of the series downloaded. I'm enjoying the characters very much and I get the novella format lets focus on one or two issues at a time. (3.5 stars)
I'm not sure why, but I just can't get into this third series. I love the first two, but this one . . . just can't get into it. Seems a lot more angst-y than the other two.
Didn't help that I spent the first third of the story trying to remember this couple. Tess and Brooke. They are just not embedding in my brain for some reason. Probably should have reread the first story before continuing, but din't.
So, Tess and Brooke spend most of the story alternating saying "I love you" with bickering. Well, if bickering can mean "frustrated attempts to get the other to understand what they are trying to say while the other keeps saying 'I understand' without actually understanding."
I could give a little description of the story now, but that's basically all I wanted to say. Angst-y story. Series third favorite by this author . . . who has just three series.
This is the well written second installment of the story of Brooke and Tess. The story continues for these well developed characters as the women and children visit Tess' parents for Thanksgiving. The loss of her older brother had already caused plenty of dissension between Tess and her mother. Tess and her parents had had a strained relationship since Tess became pregnant with the twins. When the twins are upset by something one of them overheard their grandmother say, the holiday stay is terminated after Brooke and Tess have to calm the scared children. As Christmas nears, Brooke and Tess begin a misunderstanding that could threaten their future together. Will the women learn to talk to each other before it's too late? The inner conflicts of both women and this storyline flows from the pages and right into your heart, making this another must-read book. Part 3 of the story continues for Brooke and Tess in "Handle With Care".
I am in love with JA Armstrong! Well to be honest, her writing.
I am absolutely shaking with delight upon completion of this book. The writing style, wondrously complicated characters and all the stuff: death of a sibling, devastation of the family unit, and then finding new love many years later with the matriarch not satisfied with this change. It all just works! The most delightful love story wins out with humor and patience, twins, and a loving grand mother helping to bring it all together. This is a book that I did not want to put down from page one to the last period. I hope you will support this author and enjoy the book as much as I have.
I love the Brooke & Tess characters. Granted Brooke is a brilliant physician, it seems extremely hard for her to connect the dots in her own life. Both main characters would be well served by improved communication skills. I have no doubt that they will work through these problems with time. I am looking forward to the journey with these characters.
This second volume in the Special Delivery series continues the fine character development as Brook and Tess face challenges in their relationship from both external (Tess' mother) and internal (miscommunication, fear of loss, etc...) sources. The story reads very quickly and is hard to put down.
On this books they went to visit Tess's parents for thanksgiving and oh boy, Tess's mom is a hard one, lots of stuff happened and it broke my heart for Dani and Davey.
After cutting their trip short, they go back to celebrate their first christmas with their own set backs and a little bit of angs there.
Brooke has her hands full with the “D’s”, Tess also. She’s (Brooke) a great Dr., and playmate, a great role model. The way these women Love the twins, it’s hard to believe any chaos can happen. I am enjoying this series, thanks.
Brooke and Tess are still very much in love and manage to survive a disastrous Thanksgiving visit with Tess’s parents. Now the pressure of Christmas and building their relationship is pressing on them both. A marvelous second installment in the series.
Very cute. I feel like this book and the first book could have been merged together. Read this in a few hours and couldn't put it down. I really enjoy these characters and am looking forward to starting book 3.
JA Armstrong continues the story of Brook and Tess. Love, family and friendship is strong. This is a wonderful story that I hope will not end. I have read this many times and will continue to.
Really, really good love story of two mature women. Their love for each other was palpable. J.A. Armstrong has a gift for writing about believable mature women that always touches my heart.
I am really liking these quick reads. Love that this is a developing relationship of two hardworking women that will do anything for each other and the kids.
Okay, these two were still idiots and I totally get why both of them were acting like they did and I'm so happy they worked things out, cannot wait to see this family's future with the next stories.
