Rate this book
Being Catholic isn't easy. In fact, it's just gotten harder.

With the recent election of our current Pope, a new wave of attacks is under way by the enemies of the Catholic Church. From this point forward, every Catholic will come face-to-face with the vicious anti-Catholic attacks that are being launched against the faith.

Here at Catholic Answers, the most effective products for countering attacks and clearing up misunderstandings have been our tracts. They've been around since the beginning of the apostolate and have resulted in many thousands of conversions. These tracts provide a real point of contact for someone in discovering the truths of the Catholic faith.

We've decided to compile seventy of the best tracts into one cohesive, comprehensive book that can be used by anyone, anytime, anywhere to defend the Catholic faith.

"The Essential Catholic Survival Guide" is indexed according to topic in a unique question-and-answer format that allows the reader to find the right answer to any question instantly.

It covers the questions and misconceptions people have about the Catholic faith on a variety of topics, including:

* The Church and the papacy
* Scripture and Tradition
* Mary and the saints
* The sacraments
* Salvation
* Last things
* Morality and science
* Anti-Catholicism
* Non-Catholic churches and movements
* Practical apologetics

It's the essence of Catholic apologetics - all rolled up into one attractive, easy-to-use manual that is destined to become the most effective tool of its kind.

I'll admit I'm a little biased. I work for Catholic Answers...however, I did read this book before I started working there. If you're Catholic and you want to be able to answer objections to the faith from "Bible Christians," then this book covers almost everything. It also answers objections to the faith made by other groups including 7th Day Adventists, Jehovah's Witness, and much more. It's a massive book that covers a lot of ground.

This a good book to learn about the Roman Catholic faith or to strengthen your Catholic faith.

Each chapter explores the reach traditions and theology of the Catholic faith that has spanned over 2000 years. Arguments against the Catholic faith and false assumptions about the faith that are put out by other faiths are dispensed by scriptures and history.

Other religions’ histories and beliefs are given also. It helps to learn about when other religions started, their founding fathers, and their versions of the Bible.

As a cradle Catholic, I found the chapters easy to read, the supporting documentation is easy to find out if they are solid, and how to strengthen your own Catholic faith is followed up in the last two chapters.

I like that this book is written to not to put down the other religions. That the facts are given matter factly and let you the reader feel non threaten of you are not Catholic .

This took me a long time to get through as it is the type of book one must read slowly.

Excellent collection of apologetics. Short sections dealing with a wide range of topics are easy to read length and nice level of knowledge assumed. Covers topics ranging from the papacy, professional anti Catholic favorites, and most interesting the sections on the most likely door to door evangelists - Jehovah's, Mormons, and Adventists. Covered the history, the theological novelties they espouse, and their approach to evangelizing Catholics - all with appropriate refutations. Recommend to not only Catholics wanting to get involved in the New Evangelization, but Catholics who want to have a nice range of apologetics in bite size pieces. Further, this book should be read by non Catholics who want to know what all the fuss is TRULY about rather than the nonsense people use as a straw man.

This book presents difficult questions about the Catholic faith and then the answer to those questions. The answers come from the Bible, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and Catholic traditional teaching.
