Problems of the New Testament to-Day

Rate this book
Excerpt from Problems of the New Testament to-Day

But with the political and economic aspects of the Reformation we are not now concerned. It is primarily as a religious move ment that the Reformation presents itself to us to-day, and that we feel the effects of it. And in as far as it was a religious movement it may be described as A revolt of the individual conscience against the authority of the Church. It would be difficult to point to any reforming movement in any sphere, which, however pure and lofty the original motive, does not exhibit some regrettable features. And it is to be expected that these will vary directly as the antiquity and extent of the original abuse.
