By day, Dan McKenna struggles to establish himself as a self-employed carpenter. By night, he makes ends meet pretending to be other people's boyfriends. When his agent asks him to escort another man he figures, what the hell? He can pretend to be gay for one night. It's not like he has to sleep with the guy.
Leighton Ross just wants a man on his arm to make his cheater ex-boyfriend back off. Instead, he gets a veritable knight in shining armour. If only the man weren't straight. And paid to be there.
The kiss was only supposed to be for show, but it might just show Dan there's something he's been missing all along.
Length: short story, 9000 words Heat level: medium
Super cute short story of Dan, an escort just until his carpentry business takes off, who takes on a client, Leighton, who just wants to get rid of the cheating ex-boyfriend who keeps hanging around. The fact that Dan has never escorted a man before? Well, he’s nervous but “…pretending to be someone’s date is your job and you need the money, so suck it up.” I liked Dan so much! Leighton is just like Dan’s friends, so all good. He is also apologetic that the event they are going to will be insanely boring but that’s Dan’s job as well. The story goes a little fast but I really liked both of them. “Have you ever been in love?” “Yeah…But I don’t think anyone’s ever been in love with me.” A little heart breaking, that. Of course, our guys get to have some happy after a little bit of drama. This was a sweet GFY that worked really well for me, including the monkey wrench thrown by Zach. The small world aspect worked and I completely loved “I guess I’m just that good.” Yes, Leighton. “Best. Monday. Ever.” Adorable.
My brother accidentally took my currently reading book so I picked this one up especially since one of my Goodreads friends told me it was quick and cute. And let me tell you...Oh my goodness this was so cute!! There were some things I....wasn't expecting...haha but I'm not even mad and it was a fun, quick read and it was ADORABLE. There were parts where I had a little trouble knowing who was talking but I DON'T EVEN CARE. This is getting a 5 star because it made me feel feelings while enjoying my read. And it was so cute and I was heading into a reading slump and I think this helped some. It's what I needed right now apparently just fluffy beautiful-ness. AND I SHIP THEM!! Okay I think I good now. So cute.
LOL, I loved the story, though it flew through a little fast. Could definitely be filled out and beefed up more. I can see this one definitely going from a short story to a full novel easily. But I did greatly enjoy what there was of it, I just wanted more...
The author of this short story has a talent for comedic situations as its beginning and ending can easily prove. Unfortunately she has decided to cram a few too many topics in the central part and she is being didactic about them too... and not always correctly so, as polite gay men will not go around asking perfect strangers about their preferences in bed in normal social situations (as opposed to back-room "situations"). A few more pages and a more "versatile" approach to homosexuality would have improved this little story a LOT.
Dan is firmly convinced that he's nothing but straight. Turns out he's been bi the whole time and just didn't realize it :P
Sometimes I wonder. About the term 'Gay for you'. Doesn't that just mean Bi? I mean, even if it is just one man, it's still a man. So a person is attracted to both genders. doesn't that make them bi? This is what I wonder.
A fun, fluffy little read. I loved it and it had some cute moments and some funny ones, and some hot ones too! Worth a read if you're in the mood for something short and fluffy.
I wanted more Leighton and Dan. I felt the story was way too short. I liked that Zack, Leighton's ex tried to pull one over on him and in return suffered humiliation.
It was a sweet read with a enough romance. My only complaint was that all Dan's brother had names that started with a 'D' and it got a bit confusing. I had to reread one part of the story twice ( where Dan and his brother, David made their announcement to the family.)
The writing on this story was well done. The pace was good. There was a type of epilogue which seemed like it should have just been a continuation of the story. It was free, so I don't want to complain about the length, but it was good so I do wish it had been longer.
I actually thought that this would be a cute read and just that but it was so much more. Cute. Sexy. Funny. It is one of my favorites and I reread it a lot when I have time. Some things are unexpected but happen for a reason. I most definitely want more of Dan and Leighton!
Too short to convince me to care? Too many issues thrown out there? I would have liked it, I think. If it just would have been a gfy without all of the issues being mentioned.
