Rebound Therapy

Rate this book
Jenna Anderson is still stuck in her grief a year after her fiance died in a tragic accident. All she does is go to work and spend time at home, her former spark gone. Her best friend decides she needs a rebound guy to have some fun and start to live again.

Brian MacCallum is the hot owner of the wine bar where Amy takes Jenna. He has a mischievous grin that he wields like a weapon to convince Jenna to give him a chance.

Will his love be enough to pull Jenna out of her grief so she can learn to live and love again?

Excerpt:

“I’ve decided what your next step should be,” Amy says after the first movie is over. We’ve eaten half the pizza, and each plowed through half of our respective pints.

I groan, both from feeling overfull and with dread from hearing her decision for my life. “I’m stuffed,” I say, putting the lid back on my ice cream and getting up to put it in the freezer. “Do you want another Mike’s?”

“Sure. Aren’t you going to ask what I’ve decided?”

“No. I don’t want to know.”

“Yes, you do. It’s brilliant, I promise.”

“What happened to sympathetic Amy that I talked to on the phone earlier? Can I have her back?”

She grins. “Nope. It’s proactive Amy’s turn. Ask me what you should do next.”

I take a deep breath and brace myself. “Fine. What have you decided I should do next with my life?”

“You need a rebound.”

“What?”

“A rebound. You know, to bounce back.”

Rebound Therapy is the perfect type of romance novel -- at least in my humble opinion.

It starts out on a sad note, with Jenna, the main character, who has suffered a tragic loss. She is in grief, and this book takes the brave step of showing us her grief, and showing it right away.

But this is not a story about grief. It is a story about recovery.

Jenna's best friend Amy, the kind of best friend you wish you had, talks her into one of two choices: find a rebound guy, or go to group therapy. Not wanting to overshare in a group, Jenna chooses a quick date.

She visits a wine bar and meets Brian, the owner. And then the story begins.

This is a sweet romance, but also VERY HOT in some places. It has references to the Princess Bride, Rocky Horror, and other cultural references that amused me greatly.

And it's really well written. The emotions are honest, the characters are true, and it's complicated. It's not all perfect. But it is very real and, in a way, its own sort of therapy.

Check it out!!!! 5 stars

Find a rebound guy or join a support group. What would you do when faced with this decision? This is the ultimatum that Jenna's best friend Amy gives her when she is still grieving over her fiance that she lost a year ago. Being that she absolutely hates support groups, Jenna decides to put her big girl panties on and go out and find one person to go out on a date with and appease her best friend. It is only one night right?

Jenna is the epitome of strength. To go through losing the love of your life right before the “I do's” has got to be one of the worst pains that a person could go through in their life. I love the contrast between the prim and proper buttoned up Jenna and her wild, loud mouth, no filter friend Amy. I read this book viewing Jenna through eyes of admiration and couldn't wait to see her find happiness.

Brian MacCallum is a man who has set his sights on Jenna but is so patient and kind and coaxes her to let her hair down and let him into her heart. He is the perfect complement to Jenna and boy can he pleasure her in the bedroom! I love how Brian took the time to woo her and mend her broken heart and was willing to give her all the time that she needed. He takes the saying “women come first” to whole different level.

Rebound Therapy is about finding that other person when you need them the most. Brian was there to bring Jenna back to life and show her that you can find love again after loss. I highly recommend for lovers of romance that is short but packed with emotional sexiness.

Nice easy quick read

Jenna is a grieving bride to be. It has been a year since Tom’s death and it’s time to get back on the dating scene or at least this is what her friend Amy thinks.
Amy wants to get Jenna out of her grieving blues and suggests they visit a classy hip bar.
Jenna is too keen at first but the bar owner is more than happy to try and change her mind.

Rebound therapy that could quite possibly lead to more.

I enjoyed this novella. This story had endearing characters, strong dialogue, plausible romance, and overall solid writing. Definitely a writer to check out more work from. I tried this story because I'm a HUGE fan of another of her stories, "Summer Fling" (to be published soon, currently on Wattpad). I enjoyed "Summer Fling" much much more, but this story was still enjoyable.

I do wish that there were more explanations for the character's actions and the pace was a little slower. There were more than a few sections where large periods of time were just skipped, where I would have liked to have seen more content (like the Rocky Horror date).

Nice, easy read

A nice, short easy read that kept me entertained. I loved Brian, and I would have loved some of the book from his POV.

I just love this series and I have only just read the first book. It is a very short book but it grab me from page 1 and would not let me go. I just loved the chemistry between Brian and Jenna is very noticeable right from the start. Jenna is a very lost soul and is very sad about things that have happened in her past and cannot seem to let go. Her friend Amy (who is a real hoot) badgers her into going out and that is how she meets Brian. This book is about Jenna realizing that it is okay to be happy again. It is about 2 people finding each other and finding happiness in each other. Amazing first book in the series and I cannot wait until the next one.

It's a pretty serious subject, how long is it okay to be grieving for someone lost that was so close?

The story was good but I had no emotional connection with the main characters.

Maybe because I've not experienced any loss like this or maybe it's just so heavy a topic I can't bring myself to relate to it.
I felt sorry for Brian that he's attracted to someone who doesn't seem ready.

I received a free copy and this is my honest review.

Amy was determined to bring grieving Jenna back to life. Jenna has two options – rebound guy or support group. She had no idea that her "rebound guy" could be her second chance at love and happiness.

This novella has all the feels! It's a short read but didn't lack in plot depth, character development, or emotions. I usually read full-length novels, but I really enjoyed this novella and can't wait to read the second book in the series.

Amazingly compact love story, and an enjoyable read. Once or twice I wanted to shake the heroine to make her see the happiness that was right within her grasp. But then I've never experienced that kind of loss. So maybe I'd react the same way...who knows? All in all, it was well worth reading, and will stay with me.

It was alright. It was cliche, but not overly so. It was very short, and not a whole lot happened. I don't regret reading it, but I probably won't read it again.

Rebound Therapy is such a beautifully written story! Jerica MacMillan handles the subject of loss, grief, and moving forward with one’s life as if she were offering us a delicate china cup filled to the brim with fragrant, earthy tea; with grace, respect, and wonder. And yet all it takes is one sip for us to figure out she’s spiked our Earl Gray! Thus ends my Zen-like rambling. In case, you didn’t get it, what all that meant was there’s a lot more to Rebound Therapy than meets the eye. I love how the absolute ease with which this story unfolds contrasts with its intensity as well as the depth of her characters.

A year has come and gone since Jenna’s fiance Tom was killed in an accident. Logically, she knows she needs to move on with her life, however, that pit of grief and guilt is damn hard to climb out of. Her best friend Amy has been patiently nudging her along for months. Jenna may not want to admit it, but she might actually be ready to put herself out in the dating world again. Her only other option is therapy, which she’d rather avoid. But dating? Isn't that betraying Tom? They were about to be married! How will it ever be possible not to feel guilty? Jenna’s thoughts and feelings are conveyed so well, it was easy for me to put myself in her shoes, and wonder how I would deal with such a dilemma. It’s definitely a tough call. Especially when she feels an immediate attraction to Brian, owner of the wine bar Amy drags her to one night.

I love that Brian instinctively knows how to handle Jenna without walking on eggshells. He’s respectful of her past but makes it clear he wants to be involved. Even though Brian is merely supposed to be Jenna’s “rebound therapy”, it quickly escalates to something deeper. Instead of triggering painful memories, their time together creates exciting new ones. The chemistry between them is more explosive than what she had with Tom and the sex… Let’s just say, Brian’s desire for her is all consuming. It’s like nothing she’s ever felt before.

Rebound Therapy is not all smooth sailing. It is, after all about finding oneself after a tragedy. Bit it’s also about enjoying the new that comes into your life rather than comparing it to what was. It’s about letting go of the guilt society expects us to hang onto. Ms. MacMillan has given us a touching story with the added bonus of humor and fun that will leave you with good feels and, most of all, hope.

My Thoughts on Rebound Therapy

This was a short and sweet story about a woman named Jenna who is mourning the loss of her fiance. A year after his death, Jenna's best friend decides it time for her to start moving forward with her life and to properly start it off, she needs a rebound guy. She meets that rebound guy, Brian at his wine bar. But what was supposed to be a casual thing turns into much more and Jenna must decide if she can move on from her guilt over her past to have a happy future.

I really enjoyed this story. While on the shorter side in length of books I normally read it still managed to be full of emotion and fantastic plot building. Jenna still showed strength in her pain and Brian was a fantastic leading man being supportive and patient and forgiving when the moment calls for it . I would definitely recommend this story and I look forward to reading the next in the series .

A short but beautiful and touching story. Losing your fiance in a tragic accident is not easy to get over but there was no denying that it was time to move on. I liked how Jenna's best friend began to push her to go out and wanting to have her cheerful friend back and if that meant getting a rebound guy then so be it.

And it turned out to be perfect because Brian was just so sweet. I liked him from the start and how he patient he was with Jenna. Knowing her past didn't scare him away but instead he made her happier.

Their growing connection from their instant attraction gave birth to a beautiful relationship and I loved how real the struggles that Jenna went through after meeting Brian was.

This book was such a sweet story after the sadness. I absolutely loved the characters. I loved Jenna's and Amy's dynamic. I really loved Brian. He is such a genuinely sweet guy. I was worried there for a bit but all is well. One of the best books I've read in awhile and I've read a lot of book. Absolutely recommend this to anyone!

This book although short, it was packed with grief, the best friendship, and love. This a great novella and really loving Amy who helped Jenna to get out of the funk to put herself in. It made me cheer for her to allow herself to have a go at second chance.

i picked this up because it was a short read and it was I'm in the mood for.

i liked the book. for a short read, it did have a good plot. the emotions of the characters was something i thought was really good. but the characters themselves were short on personality. but other than that, all of it was pretty good.
