Fun, easy-to-read, large comic-book format brings to life the drama and message of favorite Old and New Testament stories in a way children can readily understand. Over 1,800 illustrations.
One of my first teachers gave this to me for my seventh birthday. Now I’m sharing the same copy with my kids, who are seven, five, and three.
This picture Bible aims at being an actual picture Bible, including a huge portion of Old Testament stories—Judges, I and II Samuel, and the books of the Kings and Chronicles get nearly blow-by-blow treatment—and a pretty thorough adaptation of the Gospels and Acts of the Apostles. It includes all the stories that make it into standard children’s books and tons and tons of more obscure ones, and doesn’t hide, soften, or explain away the more perplexing, disturbing, and difficult ones. As a result, reading this through with my kids from cover to cover, a few stories at a time, created lots of great opportunities to talk.
My mom must have gone through this book with me 10 times over the course of my childhood.
This Bible may be for children but it doesn't skip over many of the strange, inscrutible, and gruesome stories of the Bible.
I still can vividly recall the cartoon images of the priests of Baal cutting themselves with rocks as they dance around the altar on Mount Carmel. "And so Elijah tied their hands behind them and put them all to death."
My sunday school class thought I just made that story up.
I can't remember if it included the story of Noah's drunken nudity or the men of Sodom demanding Lot's guests for a little bit of non-consensual man-on-man, but definitely shows Jael the moment before she put a spike through Sisera's head. Highly recommended.
This takes me back to childhood. I grew up on this, though I have not read it in a long time.. I have finished it several times, and while it obviously lacks a lot of God's actual word, it pretty much summarizes it so it is easier to read for a child. The artwork was always nice, which is why I enjoyed opening it and reading it. I am not sure if anything was added or summarized incorrectly, but overall it is a decent action-art bible.
I am not a huge fan of the comic book style but this works. Each picture is given a number so you know where to read/look. The text is short and simple, and not added to. It’s the Bible stories as they happened, just told for the young.
I really appreciate that!
The illustrations are great as well.

Content surprises are super annoying, especially when you’re 100+ pages in, so here’s my attempt to help you avoid that!
