A Classic Doris Mortman released for the first time on Kindle...
“Intricate and Compelling.” – Publisher’s Weekly

A psychological thriller by New York Times bestselling author Doris Mortman, Before and Again is guaranteed to deliver gripping suspense that will leave you hanging on to the edge of your seat.

Callie Jamieson was eight years old when her mother was dragged off in a strait jacket. Despite the diagnosis, Callie knew her mother wasn’t insane: just haunted – by the same “gray people” who haunt Callie.

Now an investigative reporter in New York City, Callie is called to the scene of a suicide that changes her life the minute she walks through the door. Wilty Hale -- her former lover -- was the heir to a billion-dollar fortune and never showed any signs of wanting to end his life.

When she begins her research for a memorial series in honor of Wilty, she finds that all the Hale heirs have died prematurely under very unusual circumstances…

Did Wilty stumble upon a murderous secret?

Determined to find Wilty’s killer, Callie teams up with an enticing detective to learn the truth. As she digs further into the Hale family history -- and sparks between the two begin to fly -- Callie discovers some secrets are worth killing for...

Filled with intense hair-raising drama and intrigue, Before and Again is a scintillating thriller. Fans of Barbara Delinsky, Mary Alice Monroe, and Diane Chamberlain will devour this classic Doris Mortman novel.

I was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico—before it was chic. My family moved to the East when I was three. I grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey and went to Skidmore College when it was still an all girl's school.

Being a lifelong wordsmith led me to such jobs as writing copy at ad agencies and doing sales promotions at Mademoiselle magazine. My first book, Circles, was published in 1984 as a paperback original and stayed on The New York Times Bestseller List for three months. Since then, I've published First Born, Rightfully Mine, The Wild Rose, True Colors, The Lucky Ones, Out of Nowhere, Before and Again, Shades of Red, and recently The Nest, the first in a series: Country Club Crimes. With both the hard and soft cover publications, I've resided on Bestseller Lists many times and have nearly twenty million books in print worldwide, with translations in fourteen languages.

I've been married for thirty-one years to a classic Type A personality who works hard, plays hard, sleeps fast, thinks deeply, and believes that commuting is a form of vehicular combat. I have two grown children, a daughter-in-law and two gorgeous grand girls!

My hobbies include golf, bridge and raising funds for breast cancer research.

I read this book in 3 days, it was impossible to put down. It has a good element of mystery mixed with a little romance, the prologue is a necessity to best understand this book. It talks about a medical phenomenon that we can dream about things that happened to our ancestors and how those dreams or rather relived nightmares can affect someone.

Really interesting premise. It started slow and took some time for me to get into it, but I ended up really enjoying trying to figure it all out!

Someone gave me a box of paperback books(most of the authors I have never read before)...I just reached in and grabbed 1 to start reading...it was awesome and I am using this same method for the whole box and then donating them to programme I am involved in...my shelf for these books is the paperback project...(if anyone wanted to see the title and authors)...I love the detail in this book and the suspense.
