Mortal Wish

Claire sufre de un cancer muy complicado y sus sintomas son cada vez peores, asi que decide ir a un manantial que tiene falla de cumplir todos tus deseos, pero ya tiene mas de una semana en la isla y todavia su enfermedad no remite. Pero una noche conoce a un hombre, Jake, que le hace sentir viva por una noche. Lo que no espera es que realmente este "hombre" no sea humano sino un vampiro cansado de su vida, que habia llegado a esa misma isla con el deseo de convertirse en humano o enfrentarse al sol y terminar su vida.
Pues el manantial si concede tus deseos, el problema es saber realmente cual es tu deseo para que lo veas cumplido.
Una historia corta, precuela de la serie original, que nos muestra como Claire y Jake comenzaron su vida como pareja y como fueron aceptados para trabajar como guardaespaldas en Scanguards.
Puedo decir que como historia es corta, rapida y sin mucho misterio, inclusive la trama como tal se nota que fue mas como para aclarar las historias con los fans de la serie, y sabiendo que salio en una antologia tiempo despues de que la serie ya fuera conocida, entiendo el tipo de historia. Pero ademas de eso, la historia es plana, basica y demasiado sencilla para que entretenga lo suficiente, creo que hubieran podido contar la misma historia dentro de alguno de los libros como un recuerdo o una conversacion entre personajes, y hubiera sido mucho mas trascendente.
En fin, la serie promete, vampiros, guardaespaldas, parejas de por vida, sexo, tiene de todo para ser entretenida e interesante, vamos a ver que tanto me gusta y si me enamoro de los personajes.

Claire and Jake... Can't say much about either character as the story doesn't go into their histories at all. They are both rather bland and uninteresting.

There's an island... somewhere... with a magic spring that grants your dearest wish, if you are willing to sacrifice for it. Jake goes there because he is tired of being a Vampire and the endless meaningless lonely existence. (Well there's a big boo-hoo! eye-roll). Claire goes there because she is dying. You can see where this is going and yes it is super predictable. But it was also sweet and entertaining. There's some fun cameos of old faves from the series near the end, but I don't remember ever seeing Jake or Claire in the other books. This one was written years after the earlier books though.

Das ist mein erstes Buch von Tina Folsom. Naja, die Vorgeschichte zu der Scanguards Reihe. Es lies sich schnell und leicht lesen, aber sehr anspruchsvoll war es nicht. Da es praktisch nur eine Kurzgeschichte war, will ich der Reihe auf jeden Fall eine Chance geben auch wenn es wie ich schon ahne wohl nichts weltbewegendes sein wird.
Dennoch ist der Schreibstil gut und ich hoffe das die Charakteren mehr Tiefe bekommen.

Claire Culver is fighting a terminal disease who also hopes the island will cure them. Immediately attracted to each other, can they give each other just a small amount of care and attention before they go their separate ways?

great short story in the Scanguard universe. I've read all the scanguard books but this story could still be read as a stand alone for reader who aren't familiar with the Scanguard universe.

Mortal Wish
I read this book when it was in Summer on Seekers Island I enjoyed with the other books in the set. And to have other Scanguard vampires in it made that more enjoyable.

Jack, der nur einen Wunsch, nämlich sterblich zu werde. Er trifft auf die totkranke Claire und merkt durch dieses Zusammentreffen, Schicksal sein muss.
Claire sucht schon sehr lange, das durch den Besuch der Quelle, ihr Wunsch ohne Krankheit zu leben , endlich erfüllt wird.
Als sich beide begegnen, beginnen sie eine heiße Affäre, bei der Jack plötzlich merkt, dass es gar nicht sein Wunsch ist sterblich zu werden.
Er weiß, dass er ein Leben mit Claire möchte, sie aber schon dabei ist, endlich ohne Schmerzen zu leben. Jack bleibt nur eine Möglichkeit, Claire zu finden und sie zu retten.
Tina Folsom hat hier eine schöne Novelle geschrieben, die zwei Menschen zusammenführt, um endlich ihre Wünsche zu erfüllen.
Es ist sehr viel Erotik im Spiel, die sie wunderbar in Szene setzt, aber nicht von der wahren Geschichte ablenkt.
Ein kurzer Moment zum Abschalten. So würde ich es beschreiben.

He heard about a hot spring on an island in the Gulf of Mexico that grates your deepest wish, he is tired of his lonely and unfilling life. She is at the island so the hot spring can fulfill her wish, to beat cancer and be healthy again. At the hotel he bumped into her and discovered her pills by accident. He gives the pills at the reception in order to be given back to her. They met at the hotel bar and they spent some time as well as the ight together. The next evening he went looking for her and found out that she went to end her suffering. He found her in time and proposed her to end her suffering in another way.
This novella takes place in 1999.

Jake is a vampire who longs for a human life. When he learns of a supposedly magical hot spring that grants one’s true desires, he goes to the little island. There he meets Claire, a woman soon to die from brain cancer, and everything changes for him. Their chemistry is instant and sizzling, and Jake soon realizes what he really needs.
This story is a prequel to the Scanguards Vampire series. Though I liked it, you don’t have to read it in order to like and understand the other books.

A great series
I love this series. It's been a few years since I started this series. A second-chance romance. “Everything you’ve heard is true. If you drink from the hot spring, you’ll get your heart’s desire.” “But sometimes we’re not wishing for the right thing. Sometimes we don’t know what our heart’s true desire is.”
Jake has one wish, to be human again. This is his last resort. He prays the hot springs will grant his wish. And if the legendary spring failed him, then there was only one other thing to do. If he had the courage to do it.
Claire is dying and the hot springs is her last hope. She wasn’t ready to die. There was so much she hadn’t done, hadn’t seen, hadn’t experienced. But she was beginning to think that the hot springs was a myth.

Jack and Claire story is the prequel now but was actually written after many of the Scanguard Vampires books were written. Since is a novella it does not have as much background as the full novels do but it does not detract from the story and it dies have a good intro/review to some of the characters in the series.
In the story you have a vampire and a human both trying to get their wish granted from a magical fountain in an Island and the story shows how that quest goes. Is a very nice novella and enjoyable quick read.

Eine Kurzgeschichte, die schön und gleichzeitig so traurig ist. Jake will sein Leben beenden und Claire ihr Leben verlängern. Beiden treffen aufeinander und es funkt zwischen ihnen. Romantisch und eine süße Liebesgeschichte. Mir fehlt etwas die Spannung, die ich sonst von Sanguards Romanen gewohnt bin. Eine Kurzgeschichte, die mich unbefriedigt zurücklässt. Sie ist toll zu lesen und ein schöner Happen für zwischendurch, aber ich bin anderes von der Reihe gewohnt.

This might be a novella but the story was full and the characters developed.
Jake and Claire have an immediate connection after bumping into one-another on an island that supposedly has magical water where it can grant your greatest desire.

A fast read, as it is a novella, an introduction to the Scanguards Vampire series. There is no background provided for the two main characters, Jake and Claire (and as Jake is a vampire, over 100 years old, he definitely has a backstory). Now I wonder what the rest of the series is like.

Loved reading the paranormal, Scanguards Vampires, romance book. Claire's reasons for coming to the healing springs is to live, and Jake wants to become a human. Read the highly recommended love story.

Jake and Claire are great , how they met , planning on what they were planning him out of boredom, her out of illness , then what he does for her . I really enjoyed this book , and meeting characters from future books

Całkiem fajna historia, trochę krótka i za szybko wszystko się dzieje ale można w sumie to uznać za dobry wstęp do serii, o ile pierwsza część będzie na tyle zadowalająca ;)
