Rate this book
Excerpt from The Child's Book of American History

The authors have described in some detail a few of the more dramatic and picturesque events in the history of our country from the earliest times to the present day. The story form has been freely used because teachers of experience know that such material has the unmistakable mark of reality and that it is instinct with the magic of life.

I’m not one to cry racism, I think it’s way over used. However this book is racist toward the native Americans. There’s a whole chapter about how brave settlers killed attacking Indians. I would have given it 0 stars for that, and the underlying tone of hate toward the Indian. The chapters without Indians were very informative and a fun read for little kids. But in my opinion there’s many other great American history books for little kids that don’t teach hate.
