Ted Andrews was an internationally recognized author, storyteller, teacher, and mystic. A leader in the human potential, metaphysical, and psychic fields, he wrote over 36 books which have been translated into more than two dozen foreign languages. He was featured on many national and local TV and radio programs every year. He won more Visionary Awards than any other author.
Ted was a worldwide acclaimed speaker and teacher. He presented sold-out seminars to thousands of people throughout the US and Canada every year, and his appearances were just as popular and in demand in the United Kingdom, Europe and parts of Asia. In May 2002 he was specially invited to speak to the UNSRC at the United Nations in New York for his writings and work with animals.
This award-winning and best-selling author was involved in the serious study of the esoteric and occult for more than 40 years, and he brought to the field an extensive formal and informal education. He served the public school system for ten years as a teacher and counselor, 7 of which were spent working with disadvantaged students, creating a special needs reading program for which he received both local and state recognition.
Called a true Renaissance man, Ted was trained in music, playing the piano since the age of 12. He composed, performed and produced the music for ten audiocassettes. He could even scratch out a tune or two on the violin/fiddle. He was a longtime student of sacred dance, ballet and Kung Fu. Ted was also schooled in a variety of related holistic healing modalities, including music therapy, herbology, hypnotherapy, acupressure and other alternative techniques. A clairvoyant since childhood, he was also a certified spiritualist medium for nearly 30 years.
Probably best known for his work with animals, Ted held state and federal permits to work with birds of prey. He performed wildlife rescue and worked in wildlife rehabilitation and education. He conducted animal education and storytelling programs with his animals in school classrooms throughout the year, giving freely of his own time and expense to help young people discover the wonder of animals and nature. In his spare time, he enjoyed hanging out with his menagerie of animals, training and playing with his horses and ballroom dancing.
Usually I avoid reading New Age books like the plague, but this book is an exception. I read his other book on faeries and thought it was decent. So I decided to give this book a chance.
What I love the most about this book is that it uses psychology and science to explain why past lives are possible in a clear and concise way. Andrews provides evidence instead of just claiming that it is real. The book contains exercises to distinguish the difference between imagination and actual memories. While How to Uncover Your Past Lives is written from a Christian point of view the book is not preachy and provides guided meditations. Andrews calls it self- hypnosis. Interestingly enough there is a section on pendulums that explained pendulums better in one chapter than a whole book on the subject.
Andrews also explains what reincarnation is and how it has shaped certain cultures in the world, karma, and the difference between karmic relationships, "soulmates", and "twin-flames". Andrews lastly concludes with rites of passage such as birth and death.
I think the best part of this book is that Andrews believes that people should take responsibility for their actions. Constantly blaming everything on "bad karma" or "bad energy" is simply an excuse. Actions have consequences. Free will still exists. Test everything until an answer can be found. Past lives should be used as a learning experience to become a better person and not to be obsessed over.
All in all, I would recommend this to any person who wants to learn more about past-lives or to someone who has an open-mind.
Ok so I will preface this review by saying that I'm not usually into these kinds of new age, woo woo book. This one was given to me as a gift a few years back and I finally got around to reading it. Surprisingly, it was pretty great! For as woo-woo as the subject matter is, it was written in such a way that made it reader friendly for skeptics and outsiders of this world.
I wanted to read the book because while skimming it, I came across some self-guided meditations that I thought I could try and use just for relaxation in my very day life. There are several really well written meditations in here that I plan to record, add some music and use. It was also really interesting, and a lot of the book is just about meditation in general and the different phases your mind goes through during.
The past life stuff was just interesting and fun to read about. I have tried it three times so far and have had three wildly different experiences. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a creative jolt, or just interested in past life tourism. If you're using past life meditation to address serious issues in your life, I don't think this book is for you- it's a good start, but you probably need to be doing the meditations with the help of a professional.
I was hoping this book would be more helpful, but it is filled with speculative theories and opinions that can either be believed or not by the reader. I don't find any of the exercises to be helpful either, as the writer is coaxing you what to imagine, instead of allowing your own interpretation to be imagined.
The book promises a lot, but for me it did not deliver what it claims. It deals with a very popular topic, and I would have liked a book guiding me through the required steps, but other than general information, this book did not give me what I was looking for.
A good explanation about the way spirituality switch into a physical form and also in the other way around where life and death is based on reincarnation. Loved it .
I love this author. He puts things very simply and logically. He has a lot of knowledge and I agree with almost everything he says.
I am not sure what I was expecting from this book, maybe new techniques? But really what I got was confirmation of things I had already knew. Things discovered through observation, and experience.
I liked the book. It covers a broad range of concepts and ideas i never would have grouped with Past lives. Its a little outdated, but my copy was published in 2001, when we still had phones to 'take off the hook'
It gives you guided meditations to record for yourself and several exercises to do.
Not sure how to review. I learned a lot and will keep doing most of these meditations. But I also wasnt wowed or moved the way I was with similar books.
I've had this book since 1994, it's aged, paper has yellowed...it's an oldie but a goody. There's some good information in here if you are wanting to explore the topic of past lives, divination and such.
It's not a bad book. It's good, it explains all the aspects of past lifes and such in a very simple way. I do think the writer makes it look "too easy" if you know what I mean and makes it seems like all you have to do is X and Y and there you can have acess to your past life knowledge.
But, besides that, I really enjoyed reading. It's an easy reading and very pleasant.
2004 wrote: I have thought I've been here before. I have had that feeling since day one. Three years old I remember feeling wiser than even my parents. Maybe I am wrong, or maybe I have been here before. Though the title fools a bit, this is a great book. It is more about finding that you could have had a past life, than finding specifics. Good book nonetheless. Thanks Teen!
