All eyes would be turned towards Mr. Gladstone's letter In these pages had that communication not been made public already. As we are celebrating the Jubilee of the Queen, it is interesting to reflect that there are two families which may be said to have lived for many years more than all others in the sight of the British people. We have no example, I believe, in our history, of the family of a citizen which has dwelt so largely, so simply, and so honourably before all the nation as the Gladstone family.
