Adora can be aloof and opinionated and she must learn, through her Wishworld mission, to accept help and ideas from others. On this mission, which was originally set for Cassie, Adora is set to help a super sensitive and shy Wisher who must try to make a new best friend because the one she has had since early childhood has moved away. Adora has to summon her friendliness, and tone down her aloof nature in order to make a connection with this Wisher. Then the unthinkable happens: the girl sees Adora's Starling appearance. Her Star Accessory immediately stops working and she is stranded on Wishworld. Luckily, her Wisher is kind, compassionate, and open minded and she hides Adora from prying eyes. She and Adora approach other girls with whom she wants to strike up a friendship. The other Star Darlings come rescue Adora. However, they must erase the Wisher's memory before they go, which saddens Adora, who genuinely became her friend.
Adora and the rest of the Star Darlings are beginning to think that their missions are more than a little mixed up, but it can't stop her from journeying to Wishworld and befriending a lonely girl - and possibly reveal her true identity?! Zappa is sure to have fans adoring every moment of this suspenseful entry in a series that grows more mysterious by the book. Adora is going to need to learn how to make friends faster than ever in order to succeed!

In this tenth book of the series, the Star Darlings are busy trying to decide if Lady Stella has betrayed them and all of Wishworld. Some of the Star Darlings have gone into some secret caves to investigate them, whiles others are tasked with helping them once they need rescue. Then Adora gets to go on her first mission to the human world –she finds her wisher, a lonely camp counselor in training named Hannah. Will she be able to grant Hannah the right wish and harvest the energy to help Wishworld?
I really do like this series, but the demographic still sits really strange to me. All the first and second grade girls want to read these, but they are more like a third or fourth grade reading level –an age that doesn’t show any interest. I still check them out to the younger readers, but they don’t quite get the whole reading a series in order thing that is necessary to understand this series –nor do I think they actually read them. But this 10th book if you have fans at your school and it won’t disappoint.
Up until this book, Adora has mostly been in the background, especially during the “poison nail polish” arc when no one could hear her speak.
Which is a shame because I really enjoyed getting to know her.
Adora is very calm and logical…she’s the Spock of the Star Darlings…and it comes across in the way this book is written. The book focuses a lot on Adora’s thinking process, showing her scientific way of approaching the problems surrounding her.
And this book introduces an interesting idea: what if, due the effects of sabotage on the group, two Starlings got their assigned wishes swapped? Adora seems to think that her mission should have been Cassie’s, but I’m not so sure…maybe Adora had something to learn as well.
(I kind of wish she hadn’t hugged her wisher at the end, ensuring she forgets who Adora is. Would be nice to see the effects of Starland’s secrets out in the world.)
My one issue with this book is how quickly the rest of the SDs free themselves after being trapped in the same room Tessa, Scarlet, & Cassie were trapped in. I think the implication is the didn’t think to look for a secret door before then, but c’mon girls!
I loved Adora's story. I had taken a break from reading Star Darlings since my library didn't have Piper's book. I still have a few to read. Anyway, reading this was completely unexpected and different than the other Star Darlings books. I was getting a little bored with them going to schools repeatedly. This was unexpected and exciting. I find all the Star Darlings characters relatable, but I was star-charmed by Adora's personality. I loved her different mission and wish. I thought her book was unique compared to the other Star Darlings. It was so star-awesome that I had to go and buy the book for myself. That's how touched I was. Even though Leona is my favorite, Adora is my second favorite. I wasn’t expecting to like her so much.
