WOW! What an amazing book! This book grabbed me right from the very beginning and kept me begging for more. It was so good that I had to forego sleep to finish it. It is rare for me to find a book that I know I will reread. His Frozen Heart is so good and I know I will be reading it many, many more times.

Candy Kane (I love the name) and Libby are best friends trying to make ends meet as young adults on their own. When money gets tight, they decide to do a little pool shark maneuver to win enough money for groceries. Things go terribly wrong and the consequences of their actions go completely haywire. Not used to being manipulated, the man who lost his money sets out to get his revenge. Libby is hurt and Candy is faced with a crazed man trying to murder her. Instead of hiding out, Candy gathers her courage to find the man responsible for hurting her best friend and turning her life topsy-turvy. In the midst of her search, a "friend" from high school is thrust back in her life. Dave Brewer, the grease monkey who restored her car. Candy is not sure if she should trust him, but can she ignore the attraction she feels for him? (I wouldn't be able to, I just fell in love with him!)

The story kept my heart racing and pulse pounding as it took twists and turns I never expected. I found myself crying, laughing and on more than one occasion sitting on the edge of my couch squirming as the action kept coming. Brilliantly written and the characters are extremely well developed. I became emotionally attached to Candy and Dave and wanted them to each find their HEA. I cannot wait for more! Love this book and author!! I highly recommend that you get this book as soon as it is released! 5 stars, but deserves 1000 stars.

I was given the honor of being a part of the audience who was lucky enough to receive an ARC of the “His Frozen Heart”

Nancy’s superb writing continues to shine through with this incredible story around Candy, her friend Libby and a long lost friend from high school Dave who led a very secluded life.

Candy’s friend and roommate Libby was a pool hustler who would place wagers on pool games to help put food on the table only when needed. When a bet goes amiss one night, Candy finds her world turned upside down as all of a sudden her friend has been attacked and the assaulter is now after her and no one is safe.

As Candy tries to find out who Libby’s attacker is before he finds her, she runs across an old friend, Dave. As she and Dave reconnect, Candy starts to realize that Dave’s past is not what she thought it was. Dave can either be the answer Candy needs in her life or the source of her nightmares. Will she uncover the facts she needs before it’s too late? Can’t give any spoilers, you will need to read to find out.

I flew through this book and couldn't put it down. His Frozen Heart is definitely a page turner on your seat, grabbing your sheets type of read. You don’t know what will happen on the next page. The intensity around the mystery and the devotion for each other- has you spellbound! This is a must read for fans of suspenseful romance. Well done Nancy, well done!

New Adult, Romance, Suspense, Action, Danger, Love

A saying that I've heard a lot while growing up in the south is...
"If you Can't Run with the Big Dogs, Stay on the Porch".

Poor Candy and Libby should've stayed on the porch, but they didn't, and guess what happened.

The big dogs came out to play.

Candy and Libby graduated high school almost two years ago. They're best friends and roommates. Complete opposites but the friendship works...most of the time.

Candy is the responsible one. Libby is the fly by the seat of your pants one. But as with most things in life there is more than meets the eyes with these two great characters.

The need to pay bills and feed themselves has Candy following Libby to a local bar for a friendly game of pool hustling. It's something that Libby does when funds are low and Candy follows along.  They never really thought about the danger that it could put them in.

Guess what happens?!

Yep, you guessed it. They hustle the wrong guy.

Libby is attacked and Candy is now running for her life while at the same time trying to stay one step ahead of all the craziness.

Have I mentioned Dave yet? Oh, Dave! I really liked Dave. He is a blast from Candy's recent past (they're still young). He's damaged, but not in a crazy way. He's sweet, in that I will take care of you way and he's devoted. But when prince charming shows up just when everything is falling apart you have to question... Is he riding in to save you or destroy you?

Let's see...what can I warn you about...

The romance is sorta fast but the fact that Candy and Dave have past history might make that okay for you...I personally loved their relationship.
Candy sometimes does things that I want to smack her for because it puts her in danger. Ditto for the two girls going to the bar and playing pool sharks with the boys. (That's the mom in me.)
Losing sleep...the story is fast moving so you may find yourself reading late into the night to find out how the girls get out of the mess they are in.

His Frozen Heart is a fast easy read with interesting characters and plenty of twists and turns. It's definitely one that I enjoyed reading and I look forward to reading more!

His Frozen Heart releases on 11/9/2014 but is available now at a pre-release price of only 99¢!

The price will go up to $3.99 on 11/16/2014! (links below and at top of post)

This book is absolutely wonderful! I love Nancy Straight's books and this one is no exception! A great suspenseful romance, Nancy blends the excitement of trying to save one's life while questioning if a new found relationship is heaven-sent or nightmare-bound. For her new character Candy, the answers are not easily found. The writing style of this book is excellent and the first chapter sucked me into a whole world I didn't want to leave. With a few twists and turns and lots of excitement, this book is definitely a must read and a page turner! Get ready for a book hangover, you won't want to put it down!

I'm so glad I had the opportunity to read the latest contemporary romance novel penned by Nancy Straight and I am proud to say that I've read the whole story twice. I just can't seem to get enough of Candy Kane, (the character, not the sweet candy treat I usually get every Christmas) and her one-of-a-kind man, Dave. I have indulged myself in this story, even imagined myself as Candy, and made me fall in love all over again.

The premise follows BFFs Candy and Libby breaking in a professor's house (Mr. Brink) and tee-peeing the and sneaking out. But their plans went awry when an "Intruder Alert" boomed across the lawn. Cut to graduation day, Candy couldn't take a look at their superintendent's face while getting her diploma because the house they actually TPed was the superintendent's house and not Mr. Brinks'. It was actually a cute scene.

Soon thereafter, Candy's parents had to move to New Mexico and had to leave the house to Candy & Libby who would shoulder the rent. The two struggled financially, to the point that they no longer had anything to eat. So they resorted to sharking pool in a nearby bar, where Candy was awarded chicken wings and Libby hustled off $400 from two brothers. However, things didn't go well with the guys after the younger brother reluctantly and violently paid them. Things got down harsher and dirtier when midnight came, as Candy almost died when stranger attacked at her workplace. Before the attacker left, he told her about getting back the money she and Libby had sharked from his friend and that he already made sure Libby won't be talking soon.

Candy's life shattered after this. Her bestfriend was in the hospital in a life-and-death situation, her house was broken into and the attacker was waiting for her to come home. Enter Dave, her once shy high school classmate who wouldn't drop a gaze at her. Dave had grown into a handsome young man, far different from what he used to be. But one thing that really worried and puzzled her was Dave's involvement with the thug inside her house and with the brothers that they have hustled off in a pool game. Dave had always been mysterious in high school, and five years later, he still mystified Candy to no end.

I won't divulge the rest of the story, but one thing for sure, this is one of the best and wonderfully written books I've read this year. Candy's & Libby's emotional life stories made me cry, Dave's childhood had me sobbing and the ending really kept me on the edge of my seat. It was a really sweet end that made me believe in happy ever after. Although there were still some questions left unanswered, I was left grinning from each-to-ear and had me dreaming about the characters at night. I seriously thought I was part of the book and I actually yearned to be in Candy's shoes, except for those brush with death scenarios.

And yes, Nancy Straight has done it again! I've actually been a fan of hers from her first book, Missing Destiny, up to her Legacy series. Nancy Straight is a pure genius. She knows how to tickle a poor hopeless romantic like me. She describes the characters and the plot with vivid details. From the first page all the way to the last, I never got bored with her writing. The story was something that would stay on my mind for the next weeks or months to come. Those nights that I stayed up late just to be able to finish His Frozen Heart was all worth it.

I received His Frozen Heart in return for an honest review as part of the tour hosted by WordSmith Publicity. Candy and Libby have just graduated from high school when Candy gets the news her parents are moving to New Mexico and leaving her the house to rent. At least she won’t be alone while going to school she will have her best friend Libby by her side. Fast forward 21 months later the girls are struggling to pay the bills as well as eat. Candy is working three jobs and going to school full time. At least Libby is a shark when it comes to pool and is able to win money for groceries that night but neither girl knew at the time their lives would change forever.

Candy is attacked at the gas station the only thing saving her was the fact that she was behind bullet proof glass. Her roommate Libby is beaten and may not come out of the coma and a pair of mad men are hot on her trail. When Candy remembers that she saw a guy from high school at the bar she looks him up only to find it wasn’t him and old memories come flooding back. Will Candy find more than just a blast from the past in Dave? What about the guys who are stalking her?

I love Candy from her name to her personality in the novel she may have issues but she knows when she has a good thing. Libby may spend most of the novel in a coma but what we do see of her I liked she worked perfectly as a best friend for Candy. Than we have Dave he’s kind of perfect for Candy granted he has his own issues but we all do and she’s exactly what he needs.

I’m a huge fan of Nancy Straights Centaur series so I had super high expectations for His Frozen Heart and she exceeded my expectation. The story is an intricate mix of romance and suspense to create a captivating novel that I was unable to put down. I took this book with me everywhere so every free moment I found had me reading. The characters are easy to connect with you can’t help falling in love with Candy and Dave they just felt so real. The story is beautifully written it stole my heart and left me with happy tears. I honestly didn’t expect to love His Frozen Heart as much as I did because I can’t imagine the author creating a better book than the Centaur’s that I love but this one is WOW. It kept me on the edge of my seat in an emotional roller coaster but it showed the sweet side of young love. I just loved everything about the book and can see myself reading it again in the future. His Frozen Heart is a must read!!!!

There honestly isn't a thing Nancy Straight can write that I won't read. Her work is always flawless and a beautiful masterpiece of mystery, suspense, romance and danger. Ms. Straight has a talent for sucking you into every paragraph, making you anxious to see what unfolds in the next and finding yourself wanting to jump to the end just to prevent yourself from going crazy.

His Frozen Heart is insane. We meet Candy and Libby, two freshly graduated girls playing house in Candy's parent's house. But it's not all fun and game and parties as they had hoped. Little things like food and money become a problem, which leads them into an even bigger and more dangerous problem, like making a wager that costs them way more than they ever thought possible. Yet, oddly enough, that still isn't their biggest problem.

Someone from Candy's past waltzes back into her life and throws everything for a loop. But Libby is put into the hospital by a mysterious attacker that seems to be lurking in the shadows and Candy's forced to solve the case before her friend (or her) wind up dead. By the end of the book, I felt so bad for Candy. She goes through so much. Anyone else would be huddled in a corner, eating their own hair. But our girl refuses to be taken down. She charges into the face of danger and tracks down the person(s) responsible for hurting her friend.

Now let's talk about Dave. Dave. Dave. Dave. *sigh* I love Dave. He's dark, mysterious and swoon-worthy. And here is where it gets interesting. From the beginning, I had a feeling Dave had something to do with all the craziness that happens. I won't tell you if I was right or wrong, but it'll definitely make you squint with suspicion.

Like every character this author writes, first, or secondary, they are so vivid, so full of life and realistic, they could be people you know. You'll have to read the book to see what I mean. Do it. now!! ;)

When a not so friendly wager goes painstakingly wrong, Candy and Libby must face the dire consequences. While Libby fights for her life in a hospital room, Candy is off to find out who is behind the attack of her best friend. What she finds changes her life forever. Will she be able to save her friend and herself from a most horrible fate? Or will her past show up and prove to be her worst enemy?

I must admit I am not used to reading a book by Straight that isn’t para/supernatural of some sort. But her debut contemporary romance was a home run for me. I really enjoyed it and love the suspense it held. Another book I could play detective. I look forward to seeing If this is something she will continue to explore.

I adored these characters. It was fun getting to know them before all hell broke loose and during the thick of it. Now all the hell Candy goes through wasn’t fun, but the story had its moments. Not all was doom and gloom. We get a couple great back stories and it just helped the story excel to the end and had me loving it that much more.

I was a bit enamored with the romance that showed itself at all the right times. It wasn’t something that was heavily coated throughout the book and that made it perfect. You don’t want a romance that will over power the suspense or the storyline. But in true Straight fashion, we received a book that was perfectly thought out and written.

Another favorite read from a favorite author of mine. I give it 5 Amazing Stars!

Before I started this book, I was in a bit of a slump. I had started four or five ARCs, but kept setting them aside to start a different one. But then I opened this one up on my ereader...and I finished it in 24 hours! And can I just say...any man that is HALF the man Dave is...he's more than welcome to step into my life. ;)

UPDATE: From the blog

This is such a hard review to write, because I loved it so much, and I want to tell you about ALL the FEELS that this book gave me...but I don't want to ruin the suspense for you. There were some amazing highs, and some really low lows. But I won't tell you what caused them. :) What I can tell you is this:

Before I started this book, I was in a bit of a slump. I had started four or five ARCs, but kept setting them aside to start a different one. But then I opened this one up on my ereader...and I finished it in 24 hours! And can I just say...any man that is HALF the man Dave is...he's more than welcome to step into my life. ;)

Something I really liked about this book was each time a secondary character was introduced, you didn't know if they were a good guy, or a bad guy, or if they were going to play a minor or major roll in what was going on. Nancy Straight sure knows how to keep a reader on their toes!

If you like romantic suspense, I think you will REALLY enjoy this one! It was a serious page turner for me. I just couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next!

This is a new book from a favorite author of mine, Nancy Straight. His Frozen Heart is a wonderfully written romance with some suspense thrown in for spice. Candy and her roommate, Libby, are out trying to scrounge up money for groceries. After getting back late, Candy oversleeps and is running late for her night job at an all night convenience store. She doesn't realize that that single night of hustling for grocery money will have devastating consequences for her and those close to her. While on the search for her roommates attacker, she runs into an old friend.

Nancy's books have always been a favorite of mine but this one seems to be one of my favorites. The characters are well written and you can picture this happening in the real world. Candy and Dave's relationship is rocky and Nancy makes you feel the pain that both of them feel. Even though this is a new genre for her to write, I definitely feel that she did a great job. I can't wait to read more about the characters that you meet in His Frozen Heart. There were several questions left unanswered to keep you wanting more and wanting more is definitely what I want.

I love Nancy's work and this was without a doubt one of my favorites. I love suspenseful romance, this book is the reason why. The characters are well developed, the plot thickens as you turn the pages.

I had a hard time putting this book down.

You must read this...MUST

After graduating, Candy and Libby are living in Candy's parents house. However, being grownup isn't as easy as they thought. Struggling to make ends meet the girls end up at a bar to see if they can win some grocery money. They win, with a price to pay.

Now the girls are fighting for their lives. They aren't safe in their own home or their jobs.

Candy runs into an old high school friend. But things there may not be as they seem with him. Does she trust him, or hide from him?

Find out in november!! Place your pre-order in now because you will want to dive into this as soon as it's released!

Nancy Straight has done it again. Different from her other works but the same in the way that I couldn't put it down and can't wait for the next. This suspenseful romance will draw you in from the moment you open the book.

With no food in the house, a pool game gone south, and dangerous men looking for revenge, Can Candy stay safe?? Teaming up with an old acquaintance, Dave, Candy races against the clock of her own safety to find justice for her best friend. Along the way will she find love? Or will time run out?

Be prepared for heart racing suspense and romance in His Frozen Heart. An excellent new book from an amazing author.

OMG! Love this story! I have to say that my wheels were turning with each chapter especially when Candy first sees Dave! Dave really peaked my interest! I love how Nancy made this story real with the character growth and let downs of each of the characters in this story. Each character surprised me in so many ways. Not only do you understand what each character is going through, you are able to find ways to relate it to the real world. I can't wait until His a Frozen Heart is released and for the next book!

3.5 stars. I picked up this book and sped right through it. I think it only took me a day or so to read. That usually is indicative of my enjoyment. I was a little surprised, as I don't read books like this as often. The style/story is one I could easily envision as something I'd enjoy watching (TV or movie) though. I've been a little more into the dystopian/supernatural series lately, so this book was a bit of a break, a return to "reality" if you will. Ironically, I think I'm a little more willing to get into the whole "suspension of disbelief" in fantasy/sci-fi stuff as it's already so out there. When the setting is more realistic, I'm a bit more nit-picky about some details (which I'll get into below. WARNING ... some are spoilers).

There were some tiny/inconsequential things I had small questions about ... there's a cute memory as the book starts. A mix-up in addresses. 118 vrs 811 ... I couldn't help but wonder if both numbers would appear on the same street (most streets around here are fairly small and wouldn't extend that far). Another memory, as the high school teacher tells Candy to get her car registered and legal before it's worked on in the shop ... We had a horrible time this summer getting my son's truck registered! It wouldn't pass inspection, so we could not register it. It was a mess! I was thinking that all the cars being worked on in the shop would have issues (thus, them being in the shop) and wouldn't be able to pass the requirements for registration.

Small things ... there were other small things here and there (such as, if the girls were so broke, why didn't they get another roommate? Why weren't Candy's parent's called after she was attacked? Why wasn't Candy called when Libby woke up?) I'd ask myself these questions ... but then the characters would address the questions themselves a bit later, with plausible explanations, enough that I was appeased. Even though the main issue ... "Why is this stalker guy so insane over $400?" was addressed, I was still questioning the extremes he went to for the sake of pride and reputation (although luckily that isn't my world, for me to have any experience in that area).

Speaking of the term "stalker" ... it is used fairly often in the book. To me, a stalker is a bit more innocuous. Following, watching, obsessing ... but not actively trying to injure or kill. I never considered the character simply a stalker, but a crazy psycho!

The Dave/Mark issue. As Candy jumps to the conclusion of multiple personalities ... I naturally assumed a twin/brother/look-alike. Neither idea is exactly everyday, but that Candy didn't even think about a twin possibility made me wonder. And when she went back to the bar, it took her a while to make the connection that it was Mark, not Dave (which took me about one second to do).

I did like Dave. His was a heartbreaking story. I thought his OCD tendencies were very believable. I know the working out was one of these tendencies ... yet I still came up short when, after being shot at, gluing a gash on his forehead, escaping police custody and being on the run, Candy still being in danger ... he stops to work out. I'm an exercise addict myself, but I don't know that I'd hit my elliptical under such conditions. I never could quite come to terms with how he escaped police custody, that Candy didn't even ask him how he did, that the police wouldn't have been able to make the connection to his business to find him, that the charges were dropped so easily.

The writing itself was good. I didn't catch any errors. The story had a nice flow. The memories helped with the backstory. I wasn't crazy about the title ... the attempted tie-ins ("his heart froze when ..." "before you I had a frozen heart") seemed a bit forced. There were a couple thoughts/statements there at the end which had a bit of a "back-to-school" special feel (good things come from bad if you look for it), which isn't really a bad thing. I really liked these realizations and the positive spin.

There were some unanswered questions (Mark's background, Larry's reaction to Dave) ... I'm assuming this is a set up for a series. I did like that this book had a definite conclusion for these characters though. It's always a bit frustrating when a story just stops!

As I review books, I often try to put in a parental perspective. In this book, although the kids are in high school as the story starts, the majority of the book they are in their early 20s. This did seem to fall into the New Adult category more than YA. However, while most NA that I have read seems to want to push the limits on language and sexual content, this did not. At one point, the main character is recounting the night before and describes it as "G or PG". Later on it does proceed past that, but is very tasteful, not at all explicit. This is a book I'd feel comfortable recommending to older teens.

Opening Lines
“I ran to the shadow of an enormous maple tree and crouched low to the ground. I couldn’t believe I had let Libby talk me into this. We had set our alarm clock for 2 AM, then sneaked out of my house while my parents were sound asleep.”
The minute I read the synopsis for His Frozen Heart I signed up for the blog tour. There was no way I was going to pass up the opportunity, this was my first read by Nancy Straight and it was definitely a good one. The first chapter or two left me a little hesitant in a way, I just wasn't really sure what I was getting myself into and how this story was going to be delivered, but a few more chapters in and I was hooked! I read this is one sitting, I just couldn't put it down! The suspense of it all kept me on my toes, and there was a perfect blend of romance. I really liked how Candy's and Libby's problems were realistic and ones that I believe a lot of people can somewhat relate to. Mind you, yes there were easier solutions to their problems but then we wouldn't have this amazing book now would we?

“I’m saying I didn’t know how lonely I was until you came into my life. Before you I had a frozen heart, and you were like a nitro charge.”
As much as this story is more about Candy all I cared about was Dave! Don't get me wrong I really liked Candy's character, but Dave just took my heart and he was all I cared about. He's been through so much and when we get information about his past I felt my heart break. I just wanted to hug him, hold him, and tell him everything would be okay and that he's not alone! I also have a thing for Obsessive-Compulsive characters, so that just added to the swooning! All the characters that we were introduced to played an interesting part, even if it was small. I liked that towards the end we get an update of some of the characters and their parents. It was a nice way to not leave everything hanging. The romance was beautifully written, what I liked most about it was that it didn't fall prey to the typical New-Adult romance standard. I admit this genre seems to get a lot of frowns from readers because a lot of them focus on sex, but that wasn't the case with His Frozen Heart. There was a real romance written that gradually built, yes it happened in a some-what short time span but it wasn't instal-love and it was clean!

What kept His Frozen Heart from getting 5 stars?
Really minor, hence the 4.5 Stars, but I was left with so many questions when His Frozen Heart came to an end! Then when I was first putting my review together I noticed that Amazon has it listed as a series. Well dang!! If only I knew that before hand! I was expecting this to be a standalone (I'm not complaining!) so I thought what we saw of these characters would be all we got, I wanted to know what would happen to Mark and his background. Guess I'll get my questions answered in the books to come! Fingers crossed!

Overall, His Frozen Heart was a great suspenseful read! Like I said above, this is my first Nancy Straight read but it won't be the last! This was well written, flowed, and I didn't come across any errors. Will I be continuing with the series? Yes. Would I recommend His Frozen Heart? Yes! I recommend this to anyone that looking forward a great combination of New Adult, Suspense, Mystery and clean Romance!

It comes as no surprise to me that I devoured this book in just one sitting. Although Nancy Straight has only written paranormal like books prior to this one, you would think she was born to write contemporary. This book was everything that I want in a standalone and a contemporary, hands down and without a single doubt. I should mention that when I say single sitting, I was up until almost 2am because I had to finish it. I said one more chapter several times and well, one more chapter never stopped until I had turned the last page.

As per the normal, Straight crafted her characters and the setting perfectly. It was easy to submerge myself into a book where I could clearly see and at several points relate to the main character. Also, it helped that the pacing was almost flawless, keeping me wanting to speed through to find out what would happen next and how Candy would deal with the constant curve balls being thrown her way. I swear that there were times my heart would be racing, and my mind speeding through all of the possibilities. All things considered, the plot was unique in this sense as well. I loved the little twist with Dave and how it made me question so much.

Candy Kane (fun right), was such an easy character to connect with. She is in so many ways the girl that you want to have as a best friend. The type of girl that you never question her loyalty, and would go out of her way to protect and take care of the people she loves. So many times she was forced to question herself and deal with a situation that was way beyond and above anything that was in her realm of possibilities. Candy was a strong character but she was not unbreakable, her decisions were not perfect. However, her inner strength and her desire to do what was right always surpassed anything else and made her the type of character you not only love but route for.

What I loved so much about the romance in this book was that it wasn't instant. Yes, it was faster... But there was a history between the two. Dave and Candy went all the way back to high school. No they were not the high school sweethearts that everyone awed over. In fact rather than one commonality that even united them; her classic car that he restored. However, Dave grew up nicely and became the kind of guy that we all wish we had looked at, not sent glares his way. However, lucky for Candy she had always been kind to him, because heck it is just in her mature and because of this something awesome happened. The chemistry that these two developed was enough to give me butterflies at times.

Overall I don't have a single complaint and so many praises for this book. Nancy Straight has seriously rocked my book world once again. Though I never doubted for a single moment that she would rock my world as she always has. His Frozen Heart was a bright spot in my reading slump and I would highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys contemporary or someone that is looking for a break from the norm.

First off I want to say what an amazing job Nancy did with this book. I could not put it down. I've been in a reading slump lately and this book totally woke me up. So much action and felling that I literally could not stop reading it for anything. Needless to say I have not eaten yet. ;)

Omg! Let me tell you about Dave. I looooved him so freaking much. He was a total package deal. His heart was on his sleeve. He had the worst upbringing ever. Moving from foster home to foster home and never knowing love or a caring touch. His stupid foster mother only wanted him around for the money. Who does that? He still ended up being a beautiful hard working successful man with a bit of OCD when it came to his everyday life. I think that's something I could deal with to have a man who cared for me and would die fighting to keep me safe. And hot as hell to. Tall muscular build, deep brown eyes.. Mmmm! Let me tell you. :) Candy was one lucky girl to have found him again. I say again because they met in high school. Dave was nothing now like he was then though. Back then he was closed off and a loner. Never letting anyone but his auto teacher Mr Kravitz get close to him.

Now Candy was a sweet soul. She loved her "Sister" Libby who was a hoot in her own way. The two girls were inseparable. Libby practically grew up in Candy's house because of her own crap in her family. The two girls were now living on their own after Candy's parents moved away. Struggling to keep afloat they pool hustled sometimes to get by. One bad hustle later Libby was in the hospital and Candy was hiding to stay a live after some strange guy threatened her life and everything seemed to go totally bad from here. I mean seriously stalker killer bad.

This whole ordeal was what threw Dave and Candy back together though so I guess things weren't completely bad. I loved every minute of it. All the gun fire and running for her life made for a really grilling story. THis wasn't your average "awe how sweet" romance book. Nope this was a thrill a minute and I wish there was more because I so have many many questions.

Does Libby stay with Larry? He put his life on hold spending every minute with Libby. How did Libby's father get back on the right path? What happens with Dave and Candy? And last but not least there's Mark Dave's brother. What has he gotten himself into? I need so much more of their lives. I'm investing in these characters and one book is not enough for me. Ugh! More more more please. ;)

You will love this if you like love, action and a lot of suspense.

From my blog, the Paisley Reader.

From the opening pages I was hooked on Candy and Libby’s antics. Their friendship, closer to sisterhood, was extremely realistic. It is the type of friendship that everyone wants to have in their lives. When their schemes get them into trouble putting Libby in the ICU and endangering Candy’s life, I flew through the pages as this story wove me through action, suspense, and romance.

Candy is a great character. Overall, she’s a really caring person and you can tell that she has a big heart. She’s trying to pay her way through school by working three jobs and on the night when the plot gets set into motion you know that she’d rather be anywhere than where Libby wants to go, but she’s that friend who still goes. She’s smart and headstrong, and I would definitely enjoy being her friend. Learning about her through high school memories was a great tool to show who she was as a person. Libby for what we got to see of her was also an enjoyable character, and I’m glad that what happened to her wasn’t just a device to have her disappear from the story. Even though she isn’t in a whole lot of scenes, she is very present for sure.

With twists and turns that made my heart pound, I could not put this book down, and I read it in a little more than one sitting. I didn’t even eat.

In addition to the heart stopping peril there was also heart melting romance. Dave was a great leading man. To sum him up he’s an incarnation of the ugly duckling only by the time he has turned into a swan he is left with some esteem issues. Finding out about his past broke my heart, and I am so glad that Candy walked into his life at just the right moment. Their scenes together range from cutely funny to heart-warmingly smoldering. They seem to be the type of couple that as individuals just enjoy being in the presence of one another. Together, they form a couple that you root for and I really hope to see them again.

When I started this book, I’m not sure what I was expecting out of it. I wasn’t expecting His Frozen Heart to be one of my favorite books this year. This is the first book that I have read by Nancy Straight and it will not be my last. She has found a new fan for sure.

5 stars - A captivating story I adored from beginning to end!

Sweet baby goodness, this book was fantastic.

I've been a fan of Nancy Straight and her books for a while. Her stories always have the ability to draw me in, hold me down, and not let me go until I reach the end. And by that point, I'm totally cool with it because I'd been on a roller coaster ride of AWESOME. The case was no different with His Frozen Heart.

From the start, Nancy did a fabulous job of establishing the characters and the world they lived in. I had a great grasp of who Candy was and how her relationship with Libby went. And then later, I had a good grasp on how things were with Dave. It was all very well written and developed, and that made it so easy to enjoy this novel.

Connecting with the characters happened quick. Candy was a cool chick, and I really liked her as an MC. We don't spend much time with Libby, but I can tell she's a good girl, too. Then we have Dave. My dear, lovely Dave. I know Daniel (from Nancy's Touched series) is my boy and all, but Dave...daaaang. I'd cuddle with Dave any day. He was a pretty deep character, and I found him so interesting. The only one more interesting in this book was Mark, Dave's brother. I'm all kinds of curious about THAT guy. But overall, these characters were fabulous.

The romance made my heart go crazy. It wasn't exactly insta-love, but I can't deny that the relationship moved quicker than some might prefer. However, it's not completely unfounded. Candy and Dave have known each other for years, and they have something of a connection already established as a basis. Plus, it's incredibly easy to ignore the speed of their progression when they're being all cute and sweet. I loved them!

Overall, His Frozen Heart is probably my favorite Nancy Straight story so far. That's a hard statement to make, because I LOVE her books so much, but I think this one took the cake. I read it in less than a day, and fell in love with every single word. I just finished the book and I am already sitting here, missing the characters. Put simply, I freaking adore this book!

I received this book from Wordsmith Publicity as part of the blog tour in return for a fair and honest review.

Nancy Straight has proven herself to be a star of the Paranormal genre with her Touched and Destiny series constantly receiving 5 star reviews. With His Frozen Heart she has successfully crossed over into the Contemporary genre with an amazing book.

This story is simply amazing and will take you on a whirlwind tour as you try to keep up with Candy as she tries to survive. This may sound melodramatic but trust me, Candy goes on a rollercoaster journey after a night out goes badly wrong. Her best friend Libby gets attacked and is in hospital in a medically induced coma. She sees a man that she knew at school but he is calling himself Mark instead of Dave. Tony is a nice guy trying to help her. Teddy is a bear with claws and a lot of rage. Grey is just... well, he's Grey, slimy, violent and creepy. The characters in this are all superb and extremely well written whether you like them or not. Don't take everything at face value though, as I did, because you'll be in for surprises along the way such as how one character acts and then towards the end you find out why and it will throw everything about how you feel about that character on its head.

I just have to say this though... Dave! That's it, just Dave. If you want an alpha male that has been seriously hurt in the past, has issues that he admits to, is sweet and caring whilst being completely hot then Dave is your guy. His story brought tears to my eyes as well as raising my temperature! You want to wrap him in cuddles and cotton wool at the same time as wanting other things too ;)

In short, this book is astounding, amazing, heartfelt, mysterious and suspenseful. The story is fantastic and you will not want to put it down. There are other characters that I haven't mentioned that I really should have but I feel like I've been gushing enough. Highly recommended.

This was a really enjoyable book. Full of suspense and mystery, it kept me hooked right until the very end.

Nancy Straight is a new author to me but one I will definitely revisit. The synopsis of this story captured my attention amongst all of the other tour requests I receive and I certainly wasn't disappointed.

The story surrounds Candy and Libby, two lifelong friends now living together and struggling to pay their bills and to buy food. Libby knows of a sure fire way to get money and that's using her skills at the pool table. After tricking another "shark" she wins $400 but little does she know what that win will cost her and Candy.

Dave Brewer, an old acquaintance of Candy's, becomes her love interest in the story and he has a sweet background coming from an unhappy childhood but his background has made him who he is today and that's someone that Candy wants to get to know a lot more of. It's part of Dave's background that leads Candy and Libby into trouble though.

"Before you I had a frozen heart." ~Dave

This story is fast paced and sucked me in right from the start. I wasn't sure where the story was going at the very beginning but by about 5 pages in I was hooked.

This book is a stand-alone and a HEA so it's certainly one to add to your TBRs for when you need a break from those never ending book series out there.

Ok so you guys know I don't really do contemp or romance, or contemp romance. BUT I make the exception when it's a favorite author of mine. Yep, Ms Nancy is definitely one of those favorites that I stalk! ALOT! So when she told me she was doing a contemp romance and asked if I wanted in, I say of course. LOL BUT I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. That should tell you a lot because I really don't read those hahaha. But anyways. Her writing is too damn good to pass up and she is a genius when she writes!

So, Candy and Libby just graduated, and they are living together in Candy's parents' house. It's harder than they thought. Someone has to clean, and take care of things. Not parties every night and fun times. Food and money are a must to have and they don't. And then, this gets them into trouble. With some troubling things, Libby is in the hospital after being attacked, and Candy has to figure out who and why. She can't lose her best friend. Let me just say I wanted to cry for Candy. She really does have a lot on her plate and a really tough time.

Oh Dave. He's all HAWT and sexy, and mysterious. And I think he's involved with the kray kray happening. But I won't say. Anyway, Dave was a friend from school and as they start to bond, Candy learns not eveything is as it seems.

I really couldn't put this word down. Ms Nancy will suck you in, have you crying or screaming. It's suspenseful so you'll need to hold on to your seats. So, I can say it's not just romance, it's mystery and I'm very cool with that. I am so excited for you Ms N, because you are doing so well. Everything your pen touches comes out gold! CONGRATS! And as for you guys, get this one, ASAP, it's well worth it!! :) 5 PAWS!!

Lately each time I read a book, I think I won’t find another one that will keep me engaged. Well, His Frozen Heart proved me wrong. This story was full of twists and turns, I never knew what was going to happen next.

Candy and her best friend Libby are living on their own after Graduation, but they didn’t know that it would be as hard as it is. Candy works three jobs and Libby works as well and at times they still do not have money to eat. When they become desperate Libby goes and pool sharks at a local bar. One night the girls were in need for food and decided to go to the local bar where they end up winning four hundred dollars from two guys names Teddy and Tony. Tony was not happy to lose since he was sharking as well. Little did Candy and Libby know the consequences for winning that night may lead to so much danger. While investigating the events that have unfolded for Candy, she runs into an old friend, could be the same person she knew all those years ago or is he hiding something?

There was so many times where I felt emotion during this book, I usually do not cry while reading, but there were many scenes that got to me. The love that Candy had for her friends and family was amazing and she would stop at nothing to keep them safe. As a character Candy grew from being a girl who got all she wanted to come that would do anything for the people around even if that means risking her life. Dave, Candy’s friend from the past, went from being a very closed up person to opening up to Candy and telling her more about himself and his family.

If all of Nancy’s books are like this, I will be looking out for more of her books!

I read / listened to this story in audio format via audible.com. I love audio books and always choose them over reading myself as audio books tend to breath life into the stories, like a heartbeat. Audio books allow us to be hands free to do other things while we read too, such as drive, walk, do chores, even work. Audio books are very entertaining!

I absolutely loved this story! It had danger, romance, suspense, humor, and love in it. I found myself staying up very late listening to this book and read it in one sitting! For awhile, I was actually gripping the arms of my chair from the suspense. I wanted to yell R U N !!!

Candy Cane has been friends with Libby for most of her life. The girls did everything together and even Candy's parents called Libby their daughter too. After graduation, Candy's parents moved to New Mexico and the girls had to support themselves. One night in order to buy food, they played pool shark to the wrong guys. While they only won 400.00, one of the men was so mad, he put out a hit on them. From here, you will have to read the book to see what happens...

The author, Nancy Straight did a fantastic job writing this story! I was so involved the entire book as the plot was that good. The danger and suspense was awesome. I am still nervous for the girls as I write this. The narrator, Jill Maglione was great too! With all her voices and accents, she was very entertaining. I can't wait to read the next of this series Fractured Karma! I know Mark has a story to tell!!! Kudos to both ladies for a job well done!

Candy and Libby are best friends struggling to make it on their low pay, high bills, and college schedule. When faced with no food or having a harmless game of pool down at the local bar, Libby chooses to strut her stuff and shark her way to their next meal. No big deal right? They couldn’t be more wrong…

Shortly after getting to work at her Midnight to 7am shift at a local gas station/convenient store, all hell breaks loose. She is robbed, shot at, and utterly terrified. She also finds out that the man has already been to Libby and wants to kill them over a measly $400….although; it’s more to kill over his ego than the money.
After seeing her best friend almost unrecognizable lying unconscious in a hospital bed, Candy decides to take the case into her own hands and find the person who did this to Libby. While in her search, she gets mixed up with an old high school friend Dave, whom she saw at the bar the night her world turned upside down….would he be the answer to her problems, or would we be a cause of more?

I loved this read! It was fast pace and kept me on my toes. I felt the utter fear, heartache, confusion, and frustration that Candy felt throughout the entire book. My heart went out to Dave, and I had to know more! I couldn’t put the book down. The writing style was amazing and pulled you in from the beginning. This is a must read by Nancy Straight!

Blog Tour Post: The Shadow Realm

This is the first book I have read by this author and I definitely think it won't be the last. I really liked this book, I flew through it in no time.
From the very beginning, this book is all go, go, go. Very fast-paced, I was kept on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading. But as well as being full of action and suspense, there were some really cute and sweet moments. I especially loved the little flash-backs we got of Candy and Dave when they were in high school. I loved the chemistry between these two. I really wanted to give Dave cuddles, he really needed it! He was such a sweetheart.
The story itself is very well written, even if I did find a few things a little far-fetched. I am really glad this is not a standalone because there is plenty of unanswered questions and I can't wait for the next book, which I assume will be about Mark. I really want to know more about him, he was a really interesting character.

Overall, this was an exciting and quick read that will have you hooked from the beginning. Looking forward to the next one!
