When Nathan meets Amy, she's in tears. Frustrated that she's not more interested in sex, her boyfriend has left to consider their relationship. Nathan knows he should leave the young woman alone-- relationships with vampires can be hazardous for mortal females. But he can't fight the attraction, so he offers to become her sexual tutor and show her how to please her boyfriend. Unable to battle his power of persuasion, Amy agrees. While Nathan is seducing Amy in ways she's never imagined, she's falling in love with him. Nathan must find a way to convince Amy that she doesn't belong in the darkness. But can he convince himself to let her go?
I honestly wasn't sure what I was getting into when I started this book/series. I'm still not entirely sure what to think. I listened to the Audible version of this book. I enjoyed the narrator's voice very much, but found the frequent music overlay a little odd. The book can easily be classified as erotica. The sex scenes are numerous and frequent. This book does not involve a committed relationship nor does it feature a HEA ending for Nathan (though I suppose you could say Amy found her HEA). That being said, it didn't necessarily have a bad ending for Nathan. Yes, it's a bit sad that he feels he needs to leave her, but it was also the honorable thing to do (at least it seems that way). The book gives what might be a lead-in to the next book, All Night Long, but does not end in a cliffhanger. If you love steamy PNR and don't care about the parties being in a committed relationship, then this is a book for you. If you like your books more mild when it comes to sex, this book is definitely not one you want to read.
Dark Desires was my first Lydia Parks and my first erotica short story. The story was quick and all about sex which is the point in short story erotica. I didn't love it, but I also don't have anything to compare it to since I'm a new erotica reader. I can say that it held my attention and was entertaining.
Nathan is a hot vampire and I enjoyed his story. Amy was a good character, but I think the better story would have been Nathan and Hannah. Hannah is the vamp who turned Nathan and emotionally tortured him into a life without love.
I know this isn't PNR, but I felt cheated at the end. Nathan loved Amy too much to turn her into a vampire and Amy didn't want to give up on life. So, Amy chose the man who told her 'woman just don't like sex the way men do' and ditched her because she was too shy in bed. She could have had the hot and eternally orgasmic vampire who taught her the pleasures of sex and love. Isn't it supposed to end with the girl and the hot vampire RIDING into the sunset? To recap, I liked it but the end left me disappointed.
