Hard to put down. Reading it made me feel like Reba was a friend visiting me, telling me stories about her life and her family. Best to read when you're just relaxing, listening to good music, and having a hot cup of cocoa. :)

Reba was always one of those country singers I'd overlooked. Aside from Fancy, which has brought tears to my eyes more than once, I really can't name any of her early songs. Over time, I've come to see that Reba is more than just a country star. She has a lot of spunk, spirit and strength behind her. Since her TV show came out, I have taken more of an interest in Reba so when I found her book, Comfort from a Country Quilt, I picked it up and brought it home to read.

Comfort From a Country Quilt was written on a laptop, while Reba was on the road, or in other spare moments. It's a lot about her family and background. Reba grew up just as she shows in some of her videos. She came from a rodeo family. She tried to become a barrel racing champ but it was singing that she was good at and soon learned to chase after the one or two things that she could succeed at.

It surprised me to learn, that although she seemed to live a hard working, modest life, her family owned 8000 acres! Reba is real close with her family and especially her son, Shelby who you'll also see in one of her videos. It was another of hers that could hit me pretty hard. He Get's That from Me is the video where she and Shelby are at a stoplight in the car and he's asking her some pretty tough questions. It reminds me of Travis for some reason.

The most recent of Reba's songs to affect me, I'd written the lyrics to not so long ago in the blog, was called, Because of You. There's no doubt she can reach the average woman.

The book was short and sweet, Reba is one of those people, that carefully chooses her words so as not to offend anyone. She has a newer book out now that may go into more depth than this one does. I'm glad I got a little more insight to Reba.

Staying true to its title, this book was definitely reminiscent of curling up under a comfy quilt with a good cup of tea. I love Reba, through and through, what between her no-nonsense personality to her utter determination and ambition to her down-home, best friend kind of feel. I also particularly enjoyed the fact that throughout her storytelling and her advice-giving, you'll never get the feeling that Reba's is just some stuck-up, snobby celebrity. She comes across as a "real" person, and lets the reader know that she's worked very hard to get where she is today. I enjoyed the versatility of this book, as well. You can read this book for the wisdom and advice that she gives, or you can read it just for the tales that she tells. This was a good book for me to read during the semester because with the short, topical chapters, it was easy to pick up and just as easy to put down (and I mean that in the best way possible). I could pick it up, read a few pages and put it down and get back to work, while feeling slightly more comforted. Overall, not the greatest book I've read, but definitely worth the read for Reba fans or for those with Southern ties or for those looking for a bit of comfort.

Challenge Topic: About Someone you Admire.

When I was a little girl I wanted to be a singer. When I was 8, or may I was 10, I don't fully remember, I saw Reba on TV performing as a New Artist on one of the Country Award shows. She sang "Crazy" by Patsy Cline. At the time, I was kind of obsessed with Patsy, listened to the 8 track I had of her over and over. I knew all the songs. When Reba performed that Acappella.... I was entranced. I wanted to be just like her.

Since then I have followed her career and have really admired how she works hard through all the struggles life throws at her, but she doesn't turn to drugs and violence and her perserveres. She stays true to herself. That isn't easy. This book talked about how she looks at the world, what she has gone through and she admits a couple times she was almost broken, but her music and family pulled her through.

This was a great book. I'm glad I picked it.

Comfort from a country quilt by McEntire_ Reba
This book starts out talking about the life of Reba throughout her years.
Love the correlation of the quilt and the pieces of her life as they are depicted on the quilt. My mom also made quilts and you knew how much time she spent making them as I make them myself.
They are so treasured now that she's gone just as treasured when she gave them to you.
Found it interesting to learn how her singing career started as I don't follow country western singers. Enjoyed this story.
Loved all the chapters of giving back and memories of riding in back seat of car across country as my husband described it also to me with 7 siblings.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
