So much potential wasted. There were so many elements that could have made a great gothic tale, but the climax and ending were quite disappointing, at least to me.
surprisingly scary! another tale of being sent to an unfamiliar, out of the way room for the night. 'the Horror' is ambiguous, but corporeal, and can do you real harm. on the fence about whether I'd have liked more explanation or not...
I guess the appeal of this short story is what is not known. Who wrote the story? When? Why? The title purports the story to be a "True Tale". Who then is the heroine?
This is a classic Gothic horror short story in every sense.
