Johnny Peterson could light up a room with a word or a smile. He had a future filled with promise--until he stepped into a car on prom night and, in an instant, it was all taken away. In the months that followed, Johnny's family and his high school sweetheart, Becky, struggle to put together the pieces of their shattered lives. No one is more devastated than Johnny's mother, Alice, but amid the heartache, something miraculous is about to happen. When a sudden illness sends Alice to hospital, a glorious vision comes to her--there, standing before her, is Johnny himself, gently urging his bewildered mother to be strong for her splintered family.

Through a season of hope and healing, Johnny will walk by his mother's side, leading his parents, his girlfriend, his sister and his brother out of their grief. But as Alice is about to discover, Johnny has returned not just to help those he loves, but to uncover a purpose even he cannot comprehend--one that will change them all forever.

Danielle Steel's Johnny Angel is a winner. This book should come with a box of tissues though, because to quote an old Bachrach and David song, "Anyone who had a heart" would not get through this book without shedding some tears. OK, without shedding a lot of tears.

This is the story of a teenager (Johnny) who's life is cut too short and how he comes back to help put his family and his girlfriend's family back together again, though only two people can see him, his mother and his younger brother.

There are a lot of fiction about the afterlife. I've read several and this one is beautifully written. It gives you hope, especially when things are going terribly wrong, and they do go wrong for Johnny's family, even beyond his death. Johnny's return is to help put things to rights, perhaps things he couldn't do when he was alive.

In 210 pages, Danielle Steel gives us a story that is totally unforgettable and totally heartbreaking and yet happy. The last pages are definitely worth reading the book for.

Good, nice story that only takes a few hours to read. I am reading a lot of Danielle Steel books right now because of the craziness going on with the virus right now, and Danielle Steel books are a read because they are not intense and end in a feel good manner. So on to another Danielle Steel.

This is an emotional short story. It got even more emotional when I realised there's a dedication in the book to Danielle's son Nicky who died. Therefore it would be quite dumb of me to nitpick.

Ok, I read Danielle Steel. So sue me.

I spent part of every summer with a maiden aunt, whose taste in reading introduced me to Sidney Sheldon, Harold Robbins, Jeffrey Archer, Rona Jaffe, Cynthia Freeman and Judith Krantz. Because sometimes you just gotta. This one was lying around where I was recently, so I picked it up and gobbled it in a day like a bag of Bit'OHoneys.

You know what I liked most about Johnny Angel? The time frame could be anytime because there are no computers or cel phones anywhere in the story. How refreshing.

Who is most important to you? Has there ever been someone or something you cared about so much that you can barely breathe when you're with them? Time just seems to slip away and then before you know it everything has changed and all you ever cared about is gone.

In the book “Johnny Angel” by Danielle Steel, Johnny Peterson had the perfect life, the seventeen-year-old Johnny Peterson could light up a room, fill his mother’s heart with pride, and inspire the best in those around him. A star athlete with a football scholarship that promised him an incredible education. He was class valedictorian, tall, lanky Johnny had a future filled with promises. It is his senior year of high school and things couldn't be better. He was getting good grades, had a date to prom with his girlfriend Becky, and had a good roof over his head with people that loved him. Johnny was the best kind of kid you could ever ask for. He was the type that always remembered his manners, did as he was told, and helped anyone at anytime when someone needed assistance.

The night of prom, he had a good time and was headed home with his girlfriend when another car with a bunch of kids challenged him to a drag race. Johnny refused and kept on his way. A few minutes later there was a big crash and they didn't even know what hit them.

Becky was taken to the hospital to be checked out. While Johnny did not go to the hospital or home that night or any night. A firefighter went to Johnny's house and told his mother that he was pronounced dead at the scene. That night, lots of tears were shed for the life that once was.

No one was more upset over Johnny's death then his mother. Johnny meant everything to her. His mother Alice went into a very bad depression. This lead to her becoming very ill and had to be rushed to the hospital to be treated. While she was in the hospital, Johnny started coming back to her in visions and helping her get through it. Johnny actually was becoming an angel in Heaven but he had to earn his wings. To do this he had to accomplish something on earth, but he didn't know what.

The only other person Johnny would appear to is his nine-year old brother Bobby. He was a child with special needs and was locked in a silent world. Johnny always seemed to understand his little brother. Bobby never spoke after he and his father, Jim, drove off a bridge. A stranger saved Bobby, and Jim managed to get out just in time. Bobby was on life support for two weeks, and ever since Bobby hadn't spoken a single word. Jim his Dad , is so consumed with guilt that every night, while Bobby is locked in his silent world, Jim drinks himself to sleep in front of the television. Then as Johnny begins to appear to little Bobby he starts to talk.

Johnny's high school sweetheart, Becky had lost her father 2 years ago when he died. Her mother works for most of the day, so Becky has to take care of her four brothers and sisters while maintaining two jobs and schoolwork. Becky did not get the scholarship that she hoped for, so now she can't go to college and has to begin to work full time at a local drugstore.

Reading Johnny Angel brought tears to my eyes. This book is not about the story or the character or the ending. It's just about relationships. A relationship between a husband and wife, a mother and daughter or her son, two teenagers. Its how one accident really burned lives. Its about the living people after someone so close to them had died. Johnny Angel is all that.
In this book I loved the special bonding between Johnny and his mother. Soul mate is the person we can be ourselves with. For Alice her soul mate was Johnny, her eldest son. He was matured, calm, someone his mother knew she could depend on. Johnny had everything he wanted but alas his life, the thing he needed to have everything else, was taken away. This is not about Johnny. It is about how his passing away affected others.
His mother was completely broken. It was not that she loved Johnny more than her other children, but she was to some extent relying on him. He was special to her and she couldn't accept his death. It is how she to struggles to face the life ahead and the special gift Johnny leaves her.
There was humor, but there was a trace of sadness and mixed feelings as well. Somehow the simplicity of all of it touches your heart.
This is a book I really wished I owned!

The first out of the two books that have ever made me literally cry while reading it...I don't know if it's that the subject matter hits home or the quality of the writing is just that good, but i remember reading this and, halfway through, lunging for a tissue. Such a sweet, sad, heartbreaking, yet beautiful story. I wish Danielle Steel would write another book like this.

This book is based on her real-life son's life. Having a chemical imbalance is a heart rending situation for any family. I think Steele tells us the bottom line truth. She is repetitive because the events in her son's life was repetitive.....that's how the sickness goes.....and these people with these kinds of difficulties need to be understood....thus her repetitive trying to help us "see" the situation.

I admire her for being open and telling THIS STORY.

A very inspiring truth about a mom and a son. :) God has His own way of making people learn. And never doubt His will. Family is the most important thing in this world. No money can replace the joy that each member brings. Losing someone is very painful, but what important is realizing how to cherish each moment with them while their still here. :D

Oh, Danielle. You make my eyes bleed. With your shallow writing style, repetition, and all those sentences that start with 'And'. It was all I could do to make myself finish the book. I gave it 2 stars instead of one because the story line could actually have been a good one....if someone else would have written the story.

This was a reread of an all-time favourite. The book was much shorter than I remembered but it certainly packs an emotional punch.

I first read this book as a teenager and it was a totally different experience reading it now as an adult and a mother. This is why I love rereading favourites as your perspective very often changes and you see stories in a new light. This was heartbreaking on a whole other level. I was always aware of Danielle Steel's own experiences when reading this book and I think that is why the grief and tragedy of losing a child is depicted in such a raw and authentic way.

Despite the sad subject matter, the story is full of hope and healing. There was a part of me that felt like Johnny's task after death to heal the lives of so many adults, when he was just a child himself, was a huge burden. However, the story symbolises light coming out of the darkest places and how positive things can grow after the worst has happened. It made me cry multiple times and I loved revisiting this beautiful story.

Late review.

You know it's a great book when it's etched to your mind regardless if you’ve read it only once. But over time, you forgot its existence. Then randomly you came across it again and had you relived that one fine day you’ve read a truly exquisite masterpiece.

Johnny, salt of the earth. Kind and loving, family-oriented, loyal... But fatal tragic took him from his loved ones. His family fell apart and couldn’t recover from their loss. Johnny, the ever-loving son and brother, came back to earth and helped them accept the grief and loss. He discovered his parents were not getting along anymore, his siblings were faced with confusion and anger.

And oh, the ending… Perfection.

This book is well-written. I wasn’t into paranormal but the story got me hooked from start to finish. I remembered this as one of DS’s short reads, but nevertheless it was a fascinating read.

I’ll definitely revisit this book once I’m up back home for vacation.

Parents that have experienced the death of a child can identify with this book. If only we could all be 'visited' by our dearly departed loved ones to help us through the stages of death. If only we could all have that last time together to say goodbye, reach the stage of acceptance and move on with our lives.
Husbands and wives who have experienced one of them being responsible for a child's accident can identify with this book. Husbands and wives who have experienced one of them being an alcoholic can identify with this book.
I really liked this book but have a box of tissues handy!

This is the very first book I review here and it took me on an emotional drive. Danielle Steel is such a great writer she nearly pulled out all the emotions in my heart through her work and it might be impossible to believe I still have tears in my eyes it's a mix of happiness and pain. Inspite of a tragedy it's surprising how she managed to maintain positivity throughout and kept me intrigued. Absolutely love this book, I am just so touched.
