I chose this book because it was advertised on my Kindle, was free (KU) and seemed appropriately seasonal. In holiday vernacular "I got tricked"

Yes this is the sixth in the series and I haven't read 1-5 but I didn't realize it was a requirement. For at least the first 25% I had zero idea who these characters were. For the remaining 75% I was mostly annoyed by them.

In this odd little town no one seems to have a job that makes them stay there, except the poor girl who works at the art gallery who never gets a break or to leave or relieved. Poor thing. And for a bunch of adults they are mostly insane.

The main character is a ... prickly woman who owns a dog & cat and a cafe and an art gallery where she shows her photographs and who is an amateur detective and is dating a guy who lives next door who is very jealous of her friend the chief of police and who takes a lot of showers. She is also friends with Christie who is a police detective who would be kicked off any force in the country for her attitude and behavior. There are a bunch of ancillary characters whose purpose I couldn't figure out.

The mystery involves Christie's ex, who is a criminal who is stabbed, poisoned and bludgeoned and found dead. But in all honestly good riddance to bad rubbish lets move on.

Can't recommend it.

Just Ok

This is a nice story that did confuse me because I haven't read some of the books before this one.
Deputy Christy Crank thinks she stabbed her ex husband but when the gang go to investigate his body is gone.
So begins the saga of missing money, a scam from bartending school and undercover cop.
For me it was ok but I got lost in the plot line.

What a crazy Halloween with such a sweet ending to the book! There were enough suspects that the only people I really trusted were Annie and her crew. A couple of twists and turns later, and she knew whodunit. The showdown was a really cool twist that I don't want to give away, but it was pretty awesome.

After reading the end of the book, I know I'm gonna have to get to that next book soon! I've already borrowed it on KU.

Kindle Unlimited, lot of stuff going on in these stories, although most never makes sense and some just hurts, as in cardboard characters and situations.

Great Halloween murder mystery

If you love pumpkin flavored everything, and Carved jack-o-lanterns, then this Halloween themed murder mystery is for you. Another entertaining quick read by Lindsey Cole. New relationships continue to grow, old relationships move to new heights, murder, mayhem, and plotting are prevalent in amongst Halloween gatherings including costume parties, punch, poison, and plotting.

When you're the only one in the dark

Another great story. Halloween is a fun time and everyone is getting into the dressing up spirit except her. However the costumes get too real when Christy turns up with real blood on her and says she killed her ex-husband. No-one believes her at first until his body is found after a search. Why did he want to meet up with her? What is the secret that Christy is hiding? What links her ex to the former classmates? Lies and deception all around her has her doubting who is innocent? Will she sort out the truth or is she the only one in the dark? The plot was great until the end, plenty of red herrings but the ending just fizzled out like a damp squid. The characters however were rich, varied and are developing with each subsequent book.

Not as good as the other

3 1/2 stars
Not as good as the other books in the series but still interesting. This is a very good series and although you can read them individually reading them in order helps you on back stories and such. Like it’s been a while since I’ve read the others so for a minute I was kind of “off” until I remembered who everyone was and their relationship. So if can read in Oder, do. But if you can’t don’t let this good series pass you by.
And yes I can recommend to my advanced preteen reading friends

Halloween Fun

It's Halloween eve, and the town of Catfish Cove is out in force. Trick or treat takes on a whole new meaning, with murder in the mix. Will the murderer be caught before they have a chance to kill again? And will Annie and Jason ever have a quiet evening at home together? The clues all seem to point to Annie's friend! This murder mystery proves to be a tricky one. Another good one, Lyndsay Cole.

Never get away with Murder.

I love this series a lot. It let's you get into the plot with each of the characters and the way each character has a personality of their own makes it even better to read. I would tell all my friends and family that this series is for the young adults and adults alike who like to go to cafe's. It would be nice to have a Black Cat Cafe for real.

Christy had a meeting with her x husband Eddie but it doesn't go as planned as she tells Annie she's stabbed him. A murder investigation is initiated as the body has gone.

Who is involved and why?

Annie can't help herself with investigating on her own and really helps out

This story wasn't as good as the other books, my head felt a little like a "ping pong ball" everytime another clue was introduced. I love the dynamics between the regular characters and their sleuthing, but this book used the characters as background.....felt strange leaving them sidlined.

Who Dunnit???

Plenty of suspects in this cozy little mystery. You’ll have to wait until the end to learn the answer. Nice easy read.

A little too cutesy and I needed to know the character's relationships better. I think to enjoy this you would have to start with the first one i the series.

There’s a murder in town the night before Halloween. Tyler tried to keep Annie out of it but that’s impossible. A will done who done it.

Happy Halloween

Annie has a big heart. She wants to help her friends. Parts of this story were a little hard to follow but overall it was a good story. I like how gullible Annie is but also how caring she is. The coffee shop is a wonderful back drop and is a place you would like to go.

Black Cat Cafe Halloween madness

I fell in love with this series with book one and get excited whenever a new one comes out. Annie and Jason are the cutest couple and despite her penchant for meddling in investigations he still loves her. The rest of the main and supporting characters are just as loveable and the mysteries always fun to try to figure out. Halloween is one of my favorite days of the year so a Halloween mystery made my day.

This was excellent! It was hard trying to see which character was really the bad guy as there were some conflicting things boing on throughout the story. The engagement of Annie and Jason was timely and did help keep the book from bogging down when it was difficult to see who was responsible for Eddie's murder. Liked how it ended, with the tables turned on Annie a little...
