Rate this book
John McDonald has been making people laugh for decades with his humorous yarns poking fun at people from away, people from Maine, and life in general. Following up the wildly popular A Moose and a Lobster Walk into a Bar, the "Dean of Maine Storytelling" offers a new collection of stories that will make you laugh till you cry and cry till you laugh.
Here's a new round of classic stories brimming with half truths, stretched truths, and wry observations about life in Maine.

This book was published in 2016, but the collection of essays was clearly written much earlier, as indicated by talk of iPods, long-distance phone calls, Ti-Vo, and payphones. McDonald adopts the role of "grumpy old man" and makes fun of vegans, people with SAD, and especially summer visitors to Maine. As a "storyteller," I'm guessing his stories might go over better in person or if you lived in Maine. This Southern girl was just shaking her head in confusion.

Too much tourist bashing. I live here too but didn't find anything funny in the 1/4 I read. Just stories about how tourists don't measure up to natives. Be nice, people!
