Zig Ziglar was a motivational teacher and trainer who traveled the world over, delivering his messages of humor, hope, and encouragement. As a talented author and speaker, he had international appeal that transcended every color, culture, and career. Recognized by his peers as the quintessential motivational genius of our times, Zig Ziglar had a unique delivery style and powerful messages that earned him many honors. Today he is considered one of the most versatile authorities on the science of human potential. Ten of his twenty-eight books have been on bestseller lists, and his titles have been translated into more than thirty-eight languages and dialects. He was a committed family man, a dedicated patriot, and an active church member. Zig lived in Plano, Texas, with his wife, Jean.
Zig Ziglar is always a pleasure to listen to. He's motivational, humorous and sound. I'm not a particularly upbeat person but this book has encouraged me to be more so in my interactions with other people. He just makes listeners feel good about themselves and that has the added benefit of then reproducing a positive attitude toward other people. I had the good fortune some 30 years ago to have went through his motivational series "See You at the Top" when I was in high school. A very wise teacher had her small group of students listen to the series and participate in exercise surrounding the "talks." His teaching has stuck with me throughout the years.
I truly do want to be a person that others don't mind to be around and this book really gave me much food for thought about staying motivated, and positive in a negative world.
The only reason I gave this 4 stars vs the deserved 5 is because this seems to be a mixer of stuff I've heard before from the speaker / author but just repackaged combination of his previous speaking presentations, free podcasts and how to stay motivated volumes
But no doubt these are fantastic lectures by my all time favourite author Zig - such a shame this amazing man has left this world - May God bless his soul as he has most likely impacted thousands of not millions positively with his work and unique style of teaching - one of the great original gurus of his field who has been ripped of by 100s of wanna be's

This new book, “Developing the Qualities of Success: How to Stay Motivated volume 1” by Zig Ziglar is classic Zig, and those who enjoy his motivating messages will enjoy this read. This book takes the late Zig Ziglar's lessons and packages them into a convenient read that is both uplifting and motivating. As Zig used to say (and it repeated in this book) motivation wears off just like bathing, so he recommends both daily. This is a great little book to inspire you.
The book is full of examples and stories, many that Zig told from the stage, so this book won't be “new” if you are already a fan of his. Because I am a fan, I often heard Zig's unique voice telling the story as I read the words off the pages.
If you are familiar with Ziglar, you know that his faith was very important to him, and the lessons in this book illustrate that as well. For some, the book might seem dated. After all, Zig was one of the pioneer motivational speakers, and one of the “old timers” in the business. Even with that said, the concepts he spoke about and that fill this book are timeless and applicable today. Sure, times change, and newer hipper speakers are coming up, but there is still a place to learn from the likes of Zig Ziglar.
If you want to develop the qualities of success, this is a great place to start.
Zig Ziglar's books are a blast to listen to. Ziglar recorded a majority of his audio books in front of live audiences, and it makes his books stand out and memorable. He is a very passionate and good speaker. His words and stories paint pictures and his vocal variety makes it easy to picture him up there on stage. With that said, he has a really good message that is practical and fun to listen too. He teaches you things that you can start doing today to improve your life, he then does it with great stories, and examples to get his point across and get it across stronger. Great book, and I am enjoying his second part to this series now.
It is strange how enthusiastic and energetic people gets you going and is worth listening too! I really enjoyed that this was from "back in the days" and everything he says is so spot on. He talks about cassett players and other stuff we dont have any more, and it is highly enjoyable.
But first and foremost, there are some wise words in this book! Absolutely worth a read!
What I got from it: 1. You don't have to be great to start, but to be great you have to start.
2. Success isn't about being the best or better than others. It isn't about being a millionaire or a billionaire. Success is about living up to the best of your capabilities. Success is being able to say at the end of the day that you did your best. An important part of success/happiness is being hopeful that tomorrow will be better than today.
3. Before you can lead you have to get good at serving others. The golden rule is that you can get whatever you want in life if you help enough others get what they want.
4. Pick up the phone with enthusiasm and joy. For example rather than picking up and saying 'hello' instead say 'hello! this is Tim Ziglar's proud grandfather! what can I do for you?'
5. We often remember concepts better when it is presented in comedic ways. People who can laugh at self/life will have better relationships and will have less stress.
I am pretty sure I've listened to at least half of this in the car and I have to say it's pretty good. I expect to go through the audio many more times in the future.
Ziglar is someone that always leaves me speechless on how well he speaks, tells stories, keeps me engaged, and improves my attitude by just listening to him. When I am down, I can listen to him and instantly feel better. I have read a lot of self help, motivation books, usually with heavy skepticism and disappointment. I do not feel that way at all about Zig.
Funny and entertaining, and definitely a good listen (audio tapes) for someone looking to laugh and be talked some common sense into how to stay engaged and approach work and life with a great attitude.
Outstanding as are all the Zig Ziglar works that I have read or listened too. Found more material to use with the classes I teach. Everyone should five this work a listen...SLT
Zig Ziglar is like symptom-calming medicine. Even though you forget the details later, you need to take it (his talk recordings) again and again, and you feel refreshed every time :)
I was surprised that this book was newly published because I assumed Ziglar was already deceased; nevertheless, I selected the book to read since I had always wondered about his brand of motivational speaking and writing and wanted to know more about it. It turns out that the Ziglar organization is still thriving and offering books, MP3's, CD's, DVD's, coaching and corporate training in the Ziglar-tested methods of attaining success and forging a life-long positive attitude.
There was definitely an ongoing strain of positivity through this short book. I have highlighted many passages and dog-eared quite a few pages. When discussing his poverty-ridden childhood, he said "I did not choose to notice what we did not have." In reference to the up-and-down economy he said "the media has accurately predicted 27 of the last two recessions." Though Ziglar didn't invent the following expression, he certainly espoused it: "It's not what happens to you -- it's how you handle what happens to you that is going to make the difference." He shares with us how to move from survival to stability, from stability to success, and from success to significance.
Ziglar referred frequently to the excessive amount of television viewing that saps the energy and time of so many people, and believed that converting some of that tv time to reading time would automatically increase IQ's. His advice is rather dated now - I wonder what he would have to say about the excessive amount of time spent on social media rather than actual socializing?
Ziglar sincerely believe that motivation is the key to accomplishment. "Motivation gets you going, habit gets you there."
The book is filled with pithy observations and amusing stories, told in a frank and simple conversational manner. I recommend setting aside a few evenings to read this short 162-page book. It will give you a shot of motivation and confidence and even some chuckles, and you will take away a few pointers to help you adjust your attitude and focus on what matters.
this book is amazing. It (and everything I've read from Zig) is a fully guilty pleasure. The kind of thing that you don't want to admit to liking but secretly in the Automobile University its amazing. It boils all the lessons and wisdom of how to live a good and happy life down into simple story's, parables and procedures.
Zig is the perfect combination of stand up comedian, baptist minister, and humble grandfather being able to deliver all these messages.
And, he is old school. And I mean OLD school. from a different age. That perspective is fascinating. he reminds more of my grandparents than my parents. But i think his messages are still timeless.
It's worth a read. And if you listen to Zig, its worth a read over and over and over again because repetition is the mother of learning which is the father of knowledge which is the architect of success (or something like that - only Zig does it justice).
Good old style motivational and common sense practices. According to Zig you need to listen to it 6 or 12 times.
I found it to be filled with what feels like the original advice that thousands of self help gurus have been preaching since... could Zig be the source of all their material?
Fun and enjoyable book, might do a 3rd re-reading in 2019.
This book should be title how to be happy in life. Much of the book and audio CD dwells on this few things: Yesterday is truly over. Moral values, faith, hope, love and integrity is important. You have to believe in God. Zig differs and he says this, that he's not a New Age philosopher. We can't do everything. It's God who works while we have hope. Through the trials of his own life he has stayed on the path of belief and I find that the examples from his own life make it very believable. I loved his jokes and anecdotes, his positivity is infectious. His ideas first to learn to obey, be disciplined and being an extra miler are excellent. I would love to read more of his books.
This is a classic motivation program. I have read Zig Ziglar in the past regarding sales and I found it to be an interesting book on negotiation. There is so much motivation out there that is literally rubbish, that I found this work actually refreshing. It also lets you get close to the author and I found that powerful and a pleasant surprise. It felt like I got to know Zig Ziglar on a personal level. Worth a second reading for sure.
Someone recommended this to me, and I decided to give it a listen. I expected a hokey plate full of conventional advice and that is exactly what I got, but since I listened to it, I had the added dose of listening to a man who sounds like Paul Harvey. All that said, it is what it is and it is a decent read. He repeats himself a few times, and has some questionable "studies" and statistics, but if you need a good talking to, this will deliver.
A must-listen series .Being recorded with live audience makes listening to this extra special.
Ziglar does an excellent job of injecting you with lots of energy through his excellent life examples narrated via his outstanding storytelling skills.
Maks sure to grab a notepad because you will end up writing a bunch of life changing quotes to keep you moving forward!
