How to Talk to an Alien

Rate this book
In 1972, American astronomer and ufologist J. Allen Hynek first coined the term "close encounter." He also identified three types of close encounters with UFOs. Since then, several more types of encounters have been proposed. A close encounter of the fourth kind is an alien abduction. A closer encounter of the fifth kind is voluntary, bilateral contact with an alien species.

We are no longer just looking at strange flying objects in the skies; now we are beginning to interact with the actual pilots, crew, and passengers!

Do aliens exist? In 2013, one poll showed that nearly half of all Americans (48 percent) believe UFOs may be a sign of extraterrestrial visitation; another found that 10 percent of Americans claim to have actually witnessed an actual UFO; and yet another showed that 2.9 million Americans believe they had actually been abducted by aliens.

If aliens exist and are visiting us, we need to talk!

Who will speak to them on behalf of planet Earth? Who can translate their intentions--good or evil--toward the human race? How can we learn about their advanced technologies? Can aliens speak human languages?

These and even more fascinating questions are all addressed in How to Talk to an Alien .

Absolute garbage. I get that the author starts from the premise that there are aliens who have been in contact with humanity, but that does have to extend to believing the wild claims of every crackpot out there. But, or course, they aren't crackpot in this world view, they are all highly esteemed and respected people who are at the top of their fields (even though no one has heard of them). And, of course, the friend of a friend of a friend, can't forget that valuable source of information.
If the poor scholarship was the only problem, I could probably give it a higher rating, but the book is also rife with poor sentences and even some spelling/grammar errors. Maybe next time splurge on an editor?

my favorite part of this book is how to tell if someone is an alien... someone “knew” their neighbor was an alien because they repeatedly asked their neighbor if they were an alien and the neighbor denied it and then started avoiding them

ps I accidentally bought a used copy online with a copious amount of notes written by an elderly conservative christian white supremacist who apparently thinks all aliens are satan’s minions and I’m not sure if the book or the notes in the margin gave me more nightmares

It was okay. I think all of this material was very interesting and informative but there was something missing that really grabbed my attention and made me want to keep reading. It took me almost 3 months to fully read this book so it wasn’t as appealing as I thought it would be but it’s still a good read. I definitely have some sticky notes in there that I will go back to and research or reread when the time comes. Not a bad book overall.

Thought Provoking

Ms. Tertre's book introduces the reader to the existence of reported alien symbols, and compares them to ancient human alphabets and medieval systems of religious/occult symbology. Fascinating read ! I wish it was more detailed. References throughout.

Great insight in the book on different types of aliens and ways of communication. However from my history and experience, all the aliens are very advanced and know how to adapt with society and can communicate with telepathy and language. The Aliens race are advance and physics and communication and know how to cloak themselves from sight and know how to communicate in English in Telepathy or talking English. Great Book to read but sometime the author underestimate these species as primitive when all of them are not. THEY ARE KNOWLEDGEABLE AND ALL CAN BLEND IN ALWAYS. nice book to have.
