Raw. Real. Emotional Romance. Writing provocative and darker themed romance that always finds its happily ever after!

With 50 plus, full length books there is a story for everyone!
Cowboy romance? Got it! Small town... yep. Big city rock star? Covered! You like a little suspense? Yep, got a few of those too.

Most of my books are standalone stories in connected series. Whether it's the setting, theme or family connections, my series are often multi-generational and span decades. While each book is a complete story, beloved characters will pop in and out of these sagas. I stick to new adult, contemporary and western romances, with tons of emotion and all the feels tucked into them.

I live in the rainy area of Western Washington, and spend as much time as I can traveling to destinations all across the state, where I do all things outdoors.
Many of these locations become the settings for my books.

This was a very good book that made me think. About what? About the depth of hate people can reach.

I was astonished by how a teenager girl was treated! I almost throw up when I read of what was done to her!!!

I was asking myself how is it possible for such sickness to exist! Why God didn’t strike him dead?! Why was he still breathing the same air I did??!!!

I could understand perfectly why Jessie was behaving like she did. Why she was cutting herself. Why she was a wreck.

And I loved so much more Will for noticing and understanding what was happening; and for selflessly helping her!

It is so difficult to review this book without giving a ton of spoilers, but let me say that it is a strong book, even if it is not overly explicit in giving all the details of her torments. But, by not giving them it is much more effective because it is left to your imagination and, as we well know, the imagination is a powerful tool!

So you should read it and think while reading about all the wrongs that go on in our world… For the sake of power and greed…
And, also, about the power of will: Jessie's in helping herself and healing; Will's in wanting to help, first selflesly, later in love born slowly but powerfully for all the right reasons!

Great job, Ms. Davis! Brava!!!

I listened to the Audible narrated version of this book. I got to over 95% of it. Why didn't I finish? Well...it was working on a five star rating from me all the way through about 80% of the story. But then, one of the MCs did something that made no sense to me at all. I'm sorry to say that the story quickly went downhill for me from that point on.

It may not be fair to rate a book 3 stars based on the last 20% of the story. But, ultimately, the rating reflects the reader's feelings at the end of the book.

I've never read anything like this before. It's dark. Not graphic, but dark anyways. It's hard to even call it a romance, yet it is, eventually. For the first 40% of the book I didn't like a single character. Not a one! But the story is addictive. The secrets revealed slowly for the very broken heroine. It feels funny to even call her a heroine. The male MC is definitely a hero though. No doubt about that. I desperately wish it hadn't tanked for me towards the very end. But it did.

I'm not sure I'm making a lot of sense in this review. Basically, this is a dark(ish), thriller(ish) story of a very bad man and a lost young woman. An unwilling hero comes into her life. He can't turn away. She has no else to rely on. Together, they'll give you lots of feels.

This book was disturbing, unrealistic to much of every character being a total psycho. Will in the beginning is like a robot you just rescued a woman from a terrible situation and you're not even impressed. And Jessie you have been raped for days by different man and only days after that you behaving like a whore. I don't know but logic would say that after being raped you can't stand to be close to a man or being touched by one would be a major problem. And a dad watching a sex video from your own daughter? This book was to much I couldn't finish it.

Wow what a total surprise, this book. I picked it up on Amazon as a free book and not sure what to expect from the reviews. However this book really surprised me. It was beautifully written. The story line is well laid out and put together nicely.
Jessie is a character that you watch grow and transform. Will is the quite strong type that forces and holds Jessie together. Their story is painful, transforming and surprising. This book is a love story worth reading.

5 I FELT EVERY EMOTION STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book is gripping, raw, emotional and powerful.
It is intense, dramatic and heartbreaking.
It is so well written, and flows so perfectly, that I was absorbed into the story from the very first page.
I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN

Jessie is so broken. The atrocities done to her in her short life are beyond reprehensible. She has endured far more than anyone should ever have to endure in a lifetime. She thinks she is unlovable, bad and repulsive but she's strong and smart and surviving, barely.
(All of the horrible and evil things done to Jessie in the book are alluded to or talked about. They are not written in detail, which I was extremely grateful for!)

Will is exactly what Jessie needs - strong, confident, upstanding, honorable, brave, and selfless. Though he initially wishes he never had the displeasure of entering her life he slowly starts noticing what everyone else is so oblivious to. He understands her and her situation and begins to help her.

I really loved how Will and Jessie didn't have "insta-love" for each other. I enjoyed seeing the buildup of their feelings for each other.

This is a very emotional read. My heart seriously ached for Jessie! It was gut-wrenching at times to continue and I had bouts throughout of ugly crying. But that's also the sign of a good book; a book written so well that you feel for the characters.

Review notes:
•I suggest reading this book after a nice lighthearted book or romantic comedy. And plan on reading another romantic comedy afterwards.

•I did not want to put spoilers in my review but if you have any questions about triggers or something you don't want to read about please ask and I will let you know.

3.5 stars.

It was very realistic and heartbreaking.

I love Jessie. She has been through a lot in her life thanks to her "honorable" father, but still has remained strong, although her decisions haven’t always been the best, she has been able to move forward. Also the issue of self-harm is something with which I identify.

I don’t like Will. It was too cold, almost as if he had no feelings. Even at the end I didn’t have clear if his feelings for Jessie were shame or love.

A GR bud of mine recommended this to me as I had been having a really BAD run of books that just didn't do it for me. This is my first book by this author but certainly not the last. Its not an easy or fun read, but I can say I did enjoy the story.

EDIT: enero, 2015

Retomado y terminado: 2.5

Hay libros peores. La parte final no fue mala. Me terminó por convencer la pareja.

Igual, sigo sosteniendo lo dicho en la primera reseña ;

There’s no way this is a romance novel, where is the chemistry????

This is a decent story but a horrible romance novel.

At 50%, the H is still not attracted to the h. He only feels pity and disgust for the poor tortured h who acts slutty due to her years of abuse. And she is like a poor puppy seeking his affection…🙄 And then out of the blue, at 54%, he says he’s fallen in love with the h and I laughed. This book is just ridiculous. Don’t you have to be attracted to fall in love?

DNF

Spoilers

Not safe
She sleeps around, even after meeting the H. It doesn’t feel offensive, since he feels zero attraction to h, the book doesn’t feel like you’re reading a romance novel.

Her sis was in love with the H but no double dipping.
She’s raped.
She’s preg by another.
Her dad pimped her out since she’s 16.
She’s a cutter and basically acts like a slutty 16 yr old. Immature, dumb and annoying.

***Trigger Warning: Self-harm, domestic abuse, sexual assault.***

This was pretty dark.
I'm not sure how to word my review for this. But I was glued to my phone screen. This is one of the many kindle freebies I downloaded and I was surprised by how much I liked it.

Somehow I feel bad for saying that. This book was tragic for 90% of its entirety. So much happened to one character. I'm kind of relieved the author chose to write it in a third person narrative so I could keep a sense of detachment from the pain of the main character. I was also grateful for the alternative POVs from Jessie and Will that let readers see both perspectives.

The author wrote the characters so well. I am so pleased with this freebie. Yes, there were typos, some sentence structure errors and admittedly the ending felt rushed and incomplete but it was a good read.

I appreciated the bildungsroman-like structure of the novel. I like character development and here, the development, particularly the healing aspect of the character was very clear.

Overall, pleasantly surprised. I'm sure I'll pick up other books by this author in the future.

edit: I think this book is better as a standalone. I've read the synopses for the other books in the series and I honestly can't say I want to read them. Jesse and Will's novella however, is on my tbr seeing as I read this story which centres on their relationship.

Words cannot describe all the emotions I went through reading this book. It’s very rare for a book to bring me to tears but the story of Jessie Bains is so heartbreaking and shocking in the atrocities that were done to her. She was violated in almost every way imaginable.

I think you get what the books about from the books description and telling more than that would spoil the experience of reading this gut-wrenching emotional rollercoaster. But this book isn’t typical as far as a romance books go. This book is about a 20 year old who has had to suffer more than most do their whole lives. All that pain has turned her into a broken person that abuses her body in so many ways to deal.

The author takes us on the journey of the healing of Jessie but not before taking us with her to her rock bottom which was an extremely hard scene to get through but yet written so realistically.

There is an unconventional love story during the course of this book that takes place over years. I totally respect how the author didn’t make it a quick romance. After what Jessie had been through there is no way that would have been conceivable or even believable.

Its always a pleasant surprise when I come across a book like this, one that touches you so deeply your left thinking about even afterwards.

5+ stars!

I was so surprised by how much I loved this book.
It is hard to tell about the storyline wo giving it away but it is so amazing and emotional I will be hungover for days.
This is a different kind of dark...Jessie, daughter of a very prominent military general, is kidnapped to Mexico and brutally beaten and raped. Will, a special ops soldier is sent to rescue her...... It is not a book about being kidnapped, it is about the aftermath (and so much that leads up to it) It is dark in a different way...it is brutality, depression, betrayal, manipulation, and self destruction....as well as healing and love and trust and 2nd chances.
There are so many painful secrets and the worst kind of betrayal. I found myself fist bumping the air one second, screaming in frustration another and then crying from heartache.
Will saves Jessie in more ways than one...Jessie is so very broken and fighting everyone along the way. Her journey...their journey....is so gut wrenching my heart and soul feel as if it has been incinerated.
I am so happy I took a chance on this book and I will definitely continue on in this series.

Glad it was a freebie. Honestly, the things that happened to Jessie were so atrocious I don't really buy a recovery and HEA happening. The sinister nature of the story and overwhelming sadness was kind of a turn off and Will was like a robot most times. Was excited by the premise but it fell short for me, unfortunately.

I was not expecting such a gut wrenching experience. I love a book that pulls you in, makes you laugh, makes you cry, that makes you want to murder someone evil.... not much laughter but well worth reading.

The h is very damaged and the H is well ...he is a hero ... he is wonderful... and you will want them to find their HEA .... you won't be disappointed.

The Other Sister (Sister Series, #1)
By Leanne Davis
Meet Jessie the girl that is acting out and everyone just sees her as the bad sister. Deep down there are reasons she is acting out. Meet her father the honorable General Bains, but is he honorable? Meet Will Hendricks the Soldier that sees it all, the soldier that is not scared to stand up against what he believes is wrong. Meet the Soldier who finally sees Jessie for what she is and how he is going to help her.
This book was superb and the story had lots of turns and twists. It is not your average love story where boy sees girl, wants her, or where girls sees boy and sparks ignite. This is two people who don’t really like one another until they get to know one another. I liked this take as the characters grow and you understood why Jessie was like she was the more the truth comes out.
Please be warned this story touches on subject matter of rape, abuse and self harm. This story is a full book and there is no cliff hanger. However there are other stories in the series.

Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you. -Friedrich Nietzsche-

I Can't write a review as it would be full of spoilers. The quote above is a good example of how some parts of the book can be described.

At first there was light
Then came the dark
The two fought for domination

Dark was tamed
And became an asset of light
The second side of the coin

It touched me that how cruel we as in the human race can be and that denial doesn't protect you from all evil. That what you show the world they will perceive to be who you really are as it is harder to not judge a book by its cover.

🎧 Audio Review 🎧

This is a new to me author and the series was recommended by a friend who knew I was looking for something different. And this was different from my normal book for sure! I really enjoyed this book even though I expected it to be a little more suspenseful after the first couple chapters. I listened straight through because it was a SLOW BURN and I had to see what happened! The characters were realistic, he was a fixer and a good guy which I love and she was damaged. They were perfect but they didn't always know it. I loved all the things going on and that it takes place over a couple of years! I can't wait to move on to the next book in the series!

The narration was great!!!!

Wow this book was a real struggle to get through. I was so glad when it ended...... Sigh.....

The story line and plot was good, but seriously the constant inner thoughts was way to much and annoying, UGH So much filler nonsense and drawn out, Kind of ruined it for me,

I know I am in the minority here and sorry for that, but really!

I can't even consider listening to the second book, Sorry.

As for the narration, that was the pretty much the best part of the book. I am a huge Brittany Pressley fan so there is that.

description

description

description

description

***This review has spoilers***
I have a lot of thoughts about this book. Mostly I loved it. The first half was fantastic. I was completely captivated by the crazy, the pain, the hate, the denial. It was very believable and realistic.

But then the whole scene where Lindsay finally understood what was happening came across forced and inauthentic. She went from hating Jessie to believing her in 5 min. That transition could have been much smoother.

I understand the purpose behind the 2 years later thing but after everything Jessie had been through she was uncomfortable because of her weight? It would have been more believable had she felt overweight not being used to being a normal and healthy weight because of her recovery. But to be so awkward with Will because she thought she was fat felt so ridiculous it totally ruined their reunion for me.

And after 2 years of barely any contact Will comes to see her and immediately makes sexual advances to her? That made no sense. I imagined that playing out so differently. Telling her he wanted to show her what it felt like to be with someone who cared about her, to feel passion and pleasure and not hate and fear. To tell her he still didn't want to have sex with her, that he wanted to make love to her. Something like that to show how different their relationship was from everything that happened to her.

I get why he had to leave and why she started dating Noah and I was happy with her facing her father and how all that went down. But then it bypassed how she handled reliving everything through the media and without Will.

I liked how Will rescued himself because of her but I didn't like how he just showed up like nothing happened. Enough time had passed he should have called her or wrote her so she knew he was alive. They could have still had the same "fight" and resolution without him just showing up like that.

Overall I really enjoyed the characters and the story and it was very well written. Besides my few gripes it was well worth the time spent reading this book and I would absolutely recommend it.

Wow! Talk about a whirlwind of emotions. There were so many twists and turns to manuver through. I'll admit, I almost stopped reading this book b/c at times it felt like it was taking too long, to get to a point. But I must say, once the point is made, the book really takes off. Jessie is labeled as the "bad" sister. But what no one seems to want to realize is why she is labeled as such. And by all means, no fault of her own. Jessie is kidnapped and being held in Mexico. What was suppose to be a "scared straight" operation turns out to be the complete opposite. While being held captive for 3 days, she is raped repeatedly for up to 8 hours at a time. In comes her savior, Col Will Hendricks, sent by her father, "The General". At first I thought he was a complete jacka$$. To him, rescuing Jessie was just a mission, a job. He wanted NOTHING to do with her as a person/human being, due to her reputation. Until he finally puts the pieces together of why Jessie is who she is and "who" is the cause of this, Will steps in and give her the help she's so desperately in need of. No one has ever cared about her or what happens to her. But due to her dependency on Will, he has to take drastic measures to get her back on track. Two years later and Jessie is a completely different person. Stronger, more confident, emotionally healed and at peace. I've left out some majore pieces on purposes because I really would recommend everyone to go out and read this book.

This is a very interesting story. I couldn't put it down. It's about General Travis Bains, who has two daughters. One, the blond, blue eyed,is perfect. Everything a father could want. She, Lindsey is even following in her father's footsteps by being in the military. Then there is Jessie, who is dark haired, brown eyed heavy busted. Totally opposite of Lindsey who can do no wrong in her fathers eyes. The General can't stand Jessie whom he is physically abusive to because she can't do anything right.
The book starts with a heroic rescue in Mexico of Jessie Bains by Will Hendricks. She'd been kidnapped and her father sends for Will to ask him to volunteer to retrieve his bad daughter from a (supposedly) drug cartel who wants to discredit the General politically. On a map he shows Will exactly where they have his daughter hidden. Hmmmm!
Having lived through her fathers abuse for as long as he did, She's a bit of an emotional basket case, who Will seems to feel responsible for. He needs to save her from her self destructiveness.

Okay that's all I'm telling. I recommend this book to adults. I loved Will right from the start. I came to love all of the characters except for the General. I could find no redeeming qualities in his character. Hope you get this book and enjoy it as much as I did.

The Other Sister is a story that encompasses many issues: rape, loss, family, the military and love. It was not what I was expecting but I loved reading it nonetheless. It's a really touchy subject to write about but I think the author did a good job. The emotions on the characters feel real and raw. The romance story also sounds plausible. Overall, it opens your eyes to the pain of an individual and the coping mechanisms involved. I hope many people read it and give it a chance like I did.

DNF at 80%.

“She looked lovely, breathtakingly so, almost virginal when she was standing at the altar.”

VIRGINAL?? I screamed.

No no, I actually DIED.

This girl was raped, dehumanized, and he stood there and watched… yet somehow, his contribution is to wax poetic like he’s judging a Miss Universe pageant???????
What an absolute stain of a man, omg.

(Okay, this is book 4 on my readathon. I wasted my time.)

Wow, when I started this I really didn't expect too much from it....was I ever surprised. I loved this book. Jessie was so broken it was unbelievable that no one noticed, but wait, someone did notice...Will did. What an amazing journey. To watch Jessie grow and heal was so uplifting. Great read!

Will es increíble.
