Robert Townley prides himself as an efficient and indispensible valet to Phillip, Duke of Bartlett. But when Robert is coerced into teaching the poor children at the duchess' chapel school, he’s out of his element. Thankfully, he has assistance from some of the other servants, including the prickly Miss Brown.

Jeanne Brown is lady’s maid to the Duchess of Bartlett. She loves working with the children but can’t abide Robert’s lofty attitude toward them. She’d love to put him in his place — but she needs her job.
When the duchess decides to hold the school’s Christmas party in her home, Robert and Jeanne must put aside their differences and work together to ensure that the holiday celebration goes off without a hitch. Will they be able to endure the partnership, or will their sparks ignite something more?

LESSONS OF COMPASSION FOR OTHERS
I enjoyed this emotional and clean regency story. I found the characters to be charming, the interaction heartwarming and the dialog open and honest. Robert Townley, a valet, was raised with the Duke, Philip Peartree, but always knew his proper place. Jeanne Brown, a lady’s maid to the Duchess, Amelia Peartree, came from humble beginning, even though her maternal grandfather was wealthy. Due to the near birth for the Peartree’s, Robert and Jeanne are now working with the poor children, teaching them their alphabet and to read and also through the compassion of the Duke and Duchess, to feed them. Seeing one child, Andy, covered in bruises they set out to see if they can aid him and his mother. Sometimes in life, bad things happen to decent people, and they are victims of their circumstances. Can Robert learn to compassion for others? Will Jeanne and Robert find happiness and a future? One of the greatest gifts we can give someone else is sometimes just a simple act of random kindness.

Review of ‘Two Tutor Doves’ by Patricia Kiyono
In this Regency romance, Duke Phillip’s valet, Robert Townley grew up knowing his place in the world. A consummate employee, he is dedicated and efficient, yet very proper, and dislikes messes of any kind.
Jeanne Brown is a caring and warm lady’s maid to Duchess Amelia. She, too, is dedicated to her employer but harbors a secret she shares with no one.
With the Duchess enceinte, Robert and Jeanne take over Lady Amelia’s charitable work – teaching a group of poor children at a church in London.
Robert decides in his usual logical way that Jeanne would be an excellent mate, but she rebuffs him as she thinks he’s rigid, and lacking compassion for others. Stunned, Robert considers her words.
Robert and Jeanne find one of their students, Andrew, suffers abuse at the hands of his father. The abuse escalates, Andrew’s mother dies, and the child disappears. Robert enlists Ralph, a long-time friend, to search for Andrew.
Lady Amelia decides to have a Christmas party for the students at the school and their parents at her home.
Is the party a success or are Robert’s worst fears about the children confirmed? Is Andrew gone for good, or is Ralph successful in finding the child? Do Robert and Jeanne find common ground, or is her secret too much for Robert?
This is an enjoyable short read. It contains lessons in the workings in a proper English household, and the vast differences between the rich and the poor, even in the early 1800s. I give Ms. Kiyono’s story 5-stars.

This is a novella – a short but sweet read. It would have been a great read for the Christmas season.

Robert Townley and Jeanne Brown are servants in the house of the Duke of Bartlett. As the valet to the duke and the lady’s maid to the duchess, they have a lot of common ground.

It is when Townley is asked to help with the duchess’s chapel school that Townley begins to see life differently. As the duchess gives birth to the new heir, Townley reaffirms his plans of starting his own family. And he sees a prospective Mrs Townley in Jeanne Brown.

There is a plot that is efficient and captivating in these few pages. Patricia Kiyono’s attempt needs to be applauded; there is drama, romance, a twist here and a turn there in Two Tutor Doves. Patricia Kiyono could probably move on to full-fledged novels and if they are anything like Two Tutor Doves, they will be well received.

If you're looking for a book to get you into the spirit of Christmas, this is the first book you need to pick up - and if you love regencies you are in for a treat! Jeanne Brown is a loving, sweet woman who has a special way of teaching the poor children at the chapel school. The only problem is that she has to work with stiff and uppity Robert Townley, the Duke of Bartlett's valet. Though it doesn't seem like these two will be able to work together, we learn that sometimes the person you think you can't stand to be with is the very person you need most.
Kiyono does an excellent job transporting the reader into the regency period. Her settings come alive with her descriptions and her characters are easily seen in the mind's eye. This is a story that I will read every holiday season.

I loved this story. The characters seemed so real as did all of the historical details. This was a time in history when class was extremely important in England, and that was true of one of the main characters. Happily, he learned the error of his ways just in time for Christmas, and in the process, some of his most deeply cherished dreams came true. I'd recommend this to anyone who's looking for a quick holiday read.

I received this book from LibraryThing for an honest review. I liked this story as it was really sweet about 2 employees tasked to teach little children while the lady of the house is confined due to pregnancy. Overall, it was a nice read but I wish it was a longer story. A nice Christmas themed story.

What a charming story! Perfect for Christmas or any time of year. Two servants are brought together to teach poor children. He's a stiff and formal valet and she's warm and loving. Author Kiyono continues her holiday series with play-on-words titles.
