When fate takes a wrong turn, even a romance written in the stars can be destroyed. Soul mates from preschool, Dana Ryan and Keri Flemons are separated by tragedy when they are eight years old. Twenty years later, fate throws them together again. Dana is a retired pro-soccer player and a rookie sports photographer, and Keri has reluctantly assumed control of a professional football team after her father's untimely death. When Keri offers Dana a position as a photographer for a team project, an opportunity that would make her career, Dana is faced with the challenge of working with the woman whom she holds personally responsible for most of the heartbreak in her life. Despite their rocky history, as time passes their attraction grows—until the past resurfaces to threaten the shape of their future.

The MCs decided to get married when they were 6 years old. How adorable is that. I'M MELTING!! This is as childhood to lovers as it can possibly get. After Dana took the job with Keri, it really irked me that the first month of them working together was skipped over. I wish we were shown them discovering their feelings for each other slowly. After that it was back on track with the romance. The chemistry between the leads was very well written. It was my favourite thing about this book.
Really enjoyed this first outing with JLee - very close to "WTF" or even "WIGT" (Would I go there??) But brought into it & loved the secondary characters. More romance than thriller - just how I like it! :)
A romance story about retired soccer player turned sports photographer Dana Ryan and football team manager Keri Flemons. The story begins when Dana and Keri were eight years old; they were best of friends and soulmates. However, the two friends were separated because Dana and her dad moved away. The story picks up twenty years later. They meet again under unfortunate circumstances; a horrific car accident which left Dana badly injured. This causes Dana to retire from playing professional soccer and change her career to sports photography. The accident causes Dana to feel deep resentment towards the Flemons family, particularly towards Keri. After the death of Keri's father, she reluctantly resume managing her father's football team. To mark the changeover of management, Keri wants to hire Dana to record the life of the football team in a series of photos..... Will Dana accept the job offer? Is her resentment towards Keri something to do with the car accident or the fact she never heard from Keri after she moved away when they were young? Can both Dana and Keri overcome what happened in the past and admit they belong together? This is the question that keeps you guessing towards the end of the book!
God this book was awful! First off, if you're going to have your characters refer to each other by nicknames, try really hard to not make those names distracting as hell. I spent most of this book rolling my eyes at the "plot", characters, and cheesy dialogue--not to mention that the backdrop in this book is a professional football team yet there are no scenes of actual games or really anything having to do with football. The author kept trying to go bigger with the story but instead of a well crafted "small" story, this is all over the place and nothing pays off. There's a drunken father, Mafia involvement, embezzling, random gay best friends, and this football team but none of these points actually go anywhere or are necessary to the story. Sometimes smaller is better.
This is an easy read, cute page turning romance with some mafia action as well. The characters had enough background and development time to be well fleshed out. But the characters circumstances were a bit unrealistic ( too well off, etc) Most loose ends were tied up. I did enjoy the the duel lesbian and gay couples that formed in this novel, (again too perfect of a setup). For a first time novel this delivers very well.
Rich; deeply textured, complete story. Pulled me in right away and kept my attention; never dragged. Author made me care deeply for the characters, which were well developed and sketched. Very well written. A few paragraphs in the middle of chapter seven felt out of order, but on the whole, one of the best lesbian romance novels I've read this winter.
One of my favorites. I was pulled in immediately and loved the characters and the storyline. It was a book I did not want to put down as I was desperate to see how Dana and Keri would fare.
I know with books of this genre you have to suspend reality a little as characters often go from hating each other to loving each other in a time frame that would never match reality but this book was next level.
I have enjoyed this authors other book so was looking forward to reading it but found this one to be hard going. It’s a very very slow burn. It took nearly 200 pages for the couple to get together. Which wouldn’t be so bad if you had seen their journey from hating each other to loving each other again develop.
But all of this growth was done off screen so to speak so as a reader you had no idea how they had suddenly dropped their hatred and turned it into love especially for Dana.
The mobster crime side story seemed very contrived and actually detracted from the love story that the book is framed as. If they had spent time focusing on their relationship and watching that develop rather than this then I may have found it a more interesting book
The characters themselves were layered quite well but the storytelling really let it down for me. To the point that I nearly gave up on it. Once the couple did get together the whole story including the mobster drama was resolved in less than 50 pages. The pacing felt very off.
Sadly I wouldn’t recommend this one.
