I believe the back cover gave the age range as 5-9 years. I thought it was entertaining and there were surprises. I've never heard of a Lightning Ghost and I sure don't ever want to see one.
I enjoyed the characters and I felt there wasn't much development of them. The focus was on the ghosthunting. The ASG, a good ghost, was sort of strange. I'm not sure why they put up with him. He does want to help and he likes scary folks. This is set in a hotel by the sea. Some of the guests are turned into fire ghost.
I thought this was imaginative and entertaining. I didn't think this was gothic, this was about ghost. It wasn't really creepy, but there was some scary in this. I like these new ghosts. I thought this was a fun little series and I will probably read some more in it. I think Cornelia Funke is a talented author.

Hatten sie es schon im ersten Band der vierteiligen 'Gespensterjäger' Reihe mit einem gar garstigen Geist zu tun, der ihnen viel Kopfzerbrechen bereitete und ihren Einfallsreichtum und ganzen Mut auf die Probe stellte, so treffen die drei inzwischen etablierten Gespensterjäger Hedwig Kümmelsaft, Tom Tomsky und das chronisch schlechtgelaunte und nörgelnde MUG (Mittelmäßig Unheimliches Gespenst) Hugo auf ein ganz besonders gefährliches Exemplar seiner Gattung, nämlich auf einen Grubligei, einen grauenhaft unbesiegbaren Blitzgeist, der zu den fünf gefährlichsten Gespenstern überhaupt zählt und gegen den scheinbar kein Kraut gewachsen ist. Wenn nicht einmal die resolute alte Dame Hedwig Kümmelsaft, die sich nun wirklich auskennt mit der großen Familie der Gespenster, weiß, wie sie dem Grubligei beikommen kann, gibt es wohl keine Hoffnung mehr für das piekfeine 'Hotel Strandpark', in dem nämlich so ein Grubligei sein schauerliches Unwesen treibt!
Warum nur hat jener Herr Wichtigmann, seines Zeichens Hoteldirektor, Kümmelsaft & Co. gegenüber den Gespensterbefall seines Hauses heruntergespielt, als er die bewährten Geisterjäger engagierte? Denn an Stelle der kleinen Feuergeister, mit denen Hedwig und ihre beiden Mitstreiter aufgrund des Briefes, den ihnen Wichtigmann geschrieben hatte, rechnen durften, waren sie natürlich nicht auf das unbezwingbare Supergespenst vorbereitet, das bereits gnadenlos dabei war, den 'Strandpark' zu verwüsten und gar die Gäste nach und nach selber in Feuergeister zu verwandeln. Der mitgebrachte Zucker samt Zuckerguss, auf den Feuergeister allergisch reagieren, ist beim Grubligei leider vollkommen nutzlos. Alles die Schuld des Direktors, der aus Angst, die Gäste könnten wegbleiben, am liebsten die ganze Geschichte unter den Teppich gekehrt hätte! Hedwig ist zu Recht wütend auf ihn – und während sie sich mit ihm zankt, wütet der Grubligei munter weiter...
Wer weiß, wie es Kümmelsaft & Co. ergangen wäre, gäbe es da nicht Herrn Lieblich, den die Leser bereits im ersten Band kennengelernt haben! Dieser freundliche Herr nämlich, dem Hedwig, Tom und Hugo seinerzeit aus einer sehr unangenehmen Patsche geholfen hatten, stellt derweil Recherchen an – und findet heraus, dass Blitzgeister eines ganz und gar nicht mögen: MUG-Schleim! Und ist nicht der muffige Hugo ein MUG? Ist es nicht sein Lebenssinn, Schleim zu produzieren? Ein Schlachtplan wird ausgeheckt und in die Tat umgesetzt – aber das ist gar nicht so einfach, denn der Grubligei ist erstaunlich widerstandsfähig und gibt unserem wackeren Trio gar manch harte Nuss zu knacken.
Wie es ihnen doch noch gelingt, den gefährlichen Feuergeist zu besiegen, kann man in dieser kurzweiligen Geschichte voller Action, Dramatik und Humor und nicht zuletzt den gewohnten originellen Einfällen und Wortspielen der Autorin, die auch diesen Band der 'Gespensterjäger' Serie höchstselbst und treffend wie stets illustriert hat, selber erfahren!
Kritische Stimmen mögen Anstoß nehmen daran, dass dieser zweite Band weniger harmlos ist als sein Vorgänger, dass er den jüngeren Lesern auch ein wenig Angst machen könnte, denn es geht tatsächlich recht gruselig zur Sache und der böse Feuergeist stellt gar nicht feine Dinge an mit jedem, der ihm in die Quere kommt. Doch bin ich überzeugt davon, dass die meisten jungen Leser weit weniger schreckhaft sind als ihre besorgten Eltern glauben, und stattdessen durchaus imstande, das Augenzwinkern wahrzunehmen, mit dem Cornelia Funke ihre Figuren und das, was sie anstellen, ausgestattet hat, und dass sie die Geschichten über die Gespensterjäger als das lesen, was sie sind, nämlich ein Riesenspaß mit genau der richtigen Portion Spannung und eben der Unheimlichkeit, die zu jeder guten Gespenstergeschichte dazugehört!

Well that was interesting. The book was most certainly written for the audiences of those who have yet to have devolved body parts and have voiced drop. But still, I remember seeing these books in scholastic magazine, back in the day when my family used to actually order from it. I had always wanted to read them but was "too young" for them.
None the less, these books are incredibly inventive and new, using old and done before ideas. Good piece of work.
In this particular story, I liked the idea of the haunted hotel, but I really felt like it was a play of Ghostbusters, considering the whole idea of it all. Still good, and humorous, but nothing laugh out loud worthy. The ghosts were actually doing harmful things and if such possibilities ocured in eal life, we would have a mess on our hands.
In this literary world, ghosts seem to be very real and in fact very dangerous. So watch out, there are many more ways you can wind up dead..."and each day we live, we face, 1000 ways to die."

I like this book because it states why the boy is a Ghosthunter, also it states why he hunts ghost, for example: Hetty Hyssopos is the main ghosthunter and he has a team of ghost that help him fight them off. (page 1), another example: is that Hetty really has fun hunting ghost and loves to fight the bad one.(page 4)
My cousin Jaylin will like this book because it talks about how fun ghosthunting is, Also it talks about how it is active for young kids like myself and it takes you on an adventure.
One challange in the book is Hetty Hyssop and the gang are trying to find a ghost named Hugo the ASG.. Hugo is a tough ghost..
The person i describe in this book is Hetty Hyssop, He is a very smart ghost and very determine to to fight off all of the bad ghost.

After reading Cornelia Funke’s first Ghosthunter’s book, we purchased the other three books in audiobook form from Audible.com. This book continues the adventures of eleven-year old Tom and Hetty Hyssop, with the addition of Hugo, an ASG (Averagely Spooky Ghost), to their team. Alvin Bigshot calls them to his seaside resort to deal with, what turns out to be, a Gruesome Invincible Lightning Ghost (GILG). Any seven to ten-year old Ghostbusters fan will appreciate their suspenseful escapades. As in Ghosthunters Book 1, I appreciated the advanced and unique vocabulary sprinkled throughout the book. John Beach’s narration makes the audiobook equally appealing to adults. The entire Ghosthunters series is definitely a good listen… and great for long car trips!

this book was given only two stars because it is not a good book at all. it has very little detail and is not very real. even though it is a fiction book it still so unreal that it is bad. the characters are to unreal, one of the ghost hunters is a ghost him self. the ghost hunters are old and one is young and the book said it is a job filled with danger to y is he only 10 or 11.

Al fin, no he podido pillarlos y leer en orden la saga de "Hugo" pero estoy feliz de haber encontrado en Filsa este tomo que no tenía (el tercero de mi colección). Me encanta como todo puede resultar muy infantil y gracioso y de pronto... tengo miedo!! estas seguro serán lecturas que les haré a mis futuros hijos! :)

This book was better than the first one. It had some funnier parts taking place in a hotel and with the hotel manager. I think part of the description of some parts of this book were lost in the translation, but still a fun read.

I liked this one even better than the first. It was funny and creative. The type of ghost that was battled in this story had a lot more complications than the ghost in the first book which made for a more complex and generally better story.

My 10 year old really likes this series. The language can be a little beyond his reading level at times, but the plots have him hooked.
