The most comprehensive popular book ever written on goal-setting, achievement, the limitations to success, and techniques for overcoming those limitations, from the authors of the national bestseller LIFE 101: Everything We Wish We Had Learned About Life in School--But Didn't.
This really is a book of quotes with some advice sprinkled in between. The advice is sub-par at best. If you removed all references to quotes and actual quotes themselves, this book would be cut, if not to one fourth of its length, at least half its length.
Now, I love quotes. Don't get me wrong. But a metric shit ton of quotes was not what I was expecting when I set out reading this book. You can tell that the author wanted to publish a book and wanted it to look substantial because he knew the audience he was targeting wouldn't research the book before they bought it. So, he jammed a bunch of quotes into the book to give it heft and sent it out to publishers, who turned it down. So he self published this book and then, when it started selling, a publisher picked it up.
I got this book for a quarter at a thrift shop and that is about how much I would expect to pay for this type of book.
So to sum it up, if you are looking for a book of quotes and aren't looking for solid advice, grab this. If you are looking for advice, do a little research and grab another book.
Every single on of these books written by Peter McWilliams from the Life 101 series are top books of mine. They contain some of the most educational, motivational and exciting information ever! Every time I read one, as the title to this one exerts, I really do want to get off my but, in both ways! Read this book!
Bubble gum self improvement drivel. I didn't even know you could write a book where there were more quotations than original content without violating copyright laws. This book is for people who want to read about doing things instead of actually doing anything. For example, the book is almost 500 pages, but the type is like 20 points, and literally every other page is blank except for an "inspiring quotation." Clearly, the target audience is a non-reader who wants to feel proud and accomplished for reading a "big book." Ughhh. Don't waste your time and/or money, just get out there and work on your goals little by little. However unpleasant the steps are, the grind of making your dreams come true is far more pleasant than reading this awful book.
This book changed my life. Its a self help book written by two psychologist. Its one of those that starts each chapter with a great quote. It talked about using negative feelings, for example fear to do great things with the added awarnace that fear provides to do great things, instead of letting it eat at us. Its a book I recommend to everyone. I was full of butts, and I gradually tried to rid myself of them.
DO IT! was a great gem to come across at a used book store. It contains a wide collection of inspirational quotes from all types of people and is, I feel, easy and fun to read. You can discover many new ways of thinking and approaching situations with this book.
Brilliant, easily his best book, and something I think should be mandatory reading for anyone high school age or older. Figure out what you want to do with your life. Sort out your priorities. What sings to you? What helps you get there? One of the great self-help books.
Very inspirational. Great design and book layout. I feature and link to this book on my website www.waypatoday.com I like how some pages just have quotes in big, bold fonts. Very each catching and attention grabbing. I agree with three messages that this book promotes and that is to simply START DOING. Don't worry about perfection. And most of our obstacles are self imposed. Use the power of your internet connection to find ways to monetize your dreams. You can visit my website or you can listen to my podcast "Not Me, But You!" Thoroughly enjoyed this book because I learned a agreat deal of useful and practical information from the authors. Also, I did the exercises that are included and discovered much about myself that was hidden. Lastly, love the timely quotes, which support the authors message.
I would recommed "Do It" for those that sincerely want to discover their purpose in life and something about themselves in the process.
An extremely entertaining, humorous, but substantive book on goal setting and life planning. A big book with small chapters, it makes for light-hearted but impactful learning.
Truthfully, I found this book in a thrift shop and thought. "hey, maybe i should give this a shot. i have stuff i need to do." This book actually does tend to give some advice. Minimal, but it's there, i think. That's why this review is getting two stars rather than one. When seeing the reviews for this book, I was taken aback by how highly rated it is. Simply, it's just a book filled with quotes in a font that is just to fill up space. I appreciated the large text quotes and anecdotes, but it just did not stick with me. I can see why someone decided to donate it in the first place.
I owned two books by Peter McWilliams and John Rogers. I think I had paperback copies. I moved so often, that I stopped collecting books, donating my personal library to public libraries along the way. I read through both motivational books many times. Often just visiting a chapter or two.
I was motivated to write a book: Everything I Know About Life, I Learned from a 45 RPM Record Lyric. Um. too long, perhaps Song Lyric would do? I never finished it. My 96 Musical Games was completed, but my publishing queries were always turned down. That would have been great to use online, if I had not given away my manuscript. Did keep my rejection letters, however.
Because I do not know when I purchased those two books, just adding guessed at read date today, 01/17/2023.
Short chapters with a catchy quote on every other page makes for very quick reading. Overall, it was a worthwhile read that made me re-focus on what is important and to spend my time towards those goals. So books that can motivate me to do things rank high on my list. Interestingly, while the authors do not directly say so, their techniques involve self-hypnotic techniques which access the subconscious mind.
Having read it quite a number of years ago, I remember liking it, yet I can't seem to remember too many specifics about it. Obviously it wasn't bad, otherwise I would have remembered that, but neither was it good enough to burn a vivid image into my mind, so three stars is probably the fairest rating I can give it.
I liked this book. I didn’t like the author’s assertion that some people are not “worthy” of their dreams. That is not for him or anyone else to determine. Everyone is entitled to his or her own dream. I do appreciate the insight the author provides in identifying The Dream and the steps necessary to achieve it. I would recommend this book.
This guide was much better than the Life 101 book. I actually read the whole thing. It wasn't good enough to motivate me to do any of the exercises yet, but I feel that if I WANTED to do them, I know how and why I would!
I have not been reading from cover to cover, but have skipped and read short sections from almost every chapter. One important thing I learned is the importance of believing in yourself and taking ACTION to accomplish what you want in life.
I expected more from this book. Maybe I should have been more realistic as I was hoping to glean methodologies to help me organize my business life. It did reinforce some basic ideas so at the end of the day, I can recommend it, but not with a tremendous amount of zeal.
Underrated book. I read this like a bible...took notes and really used it as a tool. Got a lot things accomplished while following it. It was inspiring.
