An M/M Gay Shifter Mpreg Romance

Mankind doesn’t know that dragon shifters like Dane Bennett exist, even though their history has been manipulated by the arrogant beasts for thousands of years. Unlike the rest of his species, Dane has dedicated his life to caring for humans, looking out for them, fighting for them, protecting them — and never, ever letting them know what he really is.

Wesley Byrne just broke up with his boyfriend, and he certainly isn’t looking for another. His twin brother, Ty, thinks a night out with some of the soldiers he serves with will be just what Wes needs to stop moping over a man who doesn’t deserve it.

After four hundred years, the dragon inside Dane recognizes Wes as his destiny, but Dane doesn’t trust his dragon. He’s convinced that humans can’t survive a dragon’s heat, and if he gives in it will force him to break the vow he made the day he discovered his true nature — to never take a human life.

But neither Dane nor Wes can resist the powerful pull of a fated mate, and each of them will get more than they bargained for when they finally come together.

Heat: Fated Mates is a standalone novel with a HEA ending, a satisfying epilogue, and NO CLIFFHANGERS!

Content Warning: This book is a steamy gay romance that contains explicit, unprotected love scenes and male pregnancy, or Mpreg. Adults only shifter romance!

Ridunkulous, but the title doesn't lie. This book sizzles, like literally with dragon fire.

I love Fated Mates stories, and I'm all for the down and dirty, but the world building and character development were sorely lacking.

How did Wesley support himself and pay rent on a flat if he didn't have a job? Are all dragons gay? How exactly does the fertility thing work? And how did Wesley and Dane explain the baby?

So many questions, no answers.

Still a fun read though with a sweet HEA.

Closer to 2.5, rounded up.

This is pretty good ! Honestly, I liked the concept about dragons and their mates. It's not so bad though. Heat is romantic and entralling even though some parts were unreasonable, but I tried to look over them.

This was actually pretty good! I stepped out of my tiny contemporary-junkie comfort zone and embraced the dragon shifters and pregnant man and enjoyed the ride! Fans of paranormal, shifters and mpreg are gonna love this one.

It's SO hard to put into words what I felt while reading this one. It's another freebie I got from Amazon and again I auto-clicked because I thought we're going to get a HOT FATED MATES story.

"HEAT" it actually an M/M Gay Shifter Mpreg Romance... My bad, I didn't check the blurb. So it's only my fault. I had no idea while diving in about the Mpreg thing. I'm not a fan, actually I can't remember if I've read about this before, but I knew, I just knew it's not my thing. I can't for the love of God, wrap my head around it and be OK with it. Not even in a fantasy or fated mates or shape shifter story.

Dane is a shape shifter dragon and he finds his mate in a human. They share this strong bond and have wild sex. Dane is afraid his mate will die while being pregnant. He leaves him. Then he returns and takes his responsibility. They love each other. They have A LOT of sex. They deliver the baby dragon and the Epilogue shows us a happy family with friends. The end.

Unfortunately this was not my cup of tea. But it's a novella and I was able to finish it pretty quickly. Now I can honestly say Mpreg is NOT for me, I tried it and it didn't do anything for me.

Dragons. Mpreg. Mates. Mine.

See, this should have been amazing! But it wasn’t.

I am on board with the whole insta-love mates train, but these guys talked about love without having spent that much time together. I can do this if the book is all hearts and rainbows, but Dane was too depressed for this to be a feel good book.

And this was just creepy instead of romantic.

After I told Wesley the truth, I would have my dragon take him to our cave in the Olympic Mountains.

I would've appreciate more bonding through talking with the mcs rather than just a quick conversation and then sex after that.
because this book feel like it has no depth, the character just being two dimensional and sex craze with the instinct of an animal.

After twenty-two year old Wesley Byrne breaks up with his boyfriend, for calling out his twin brother Tyler's name during sex (ouch!), he's understandably upset. When Ty convinces him to stop his moping and get out of the house for a while, Wes agrees.

Ty and the rest of his unit are sending off one of their own, Dane Bennett, who's getting out of the military and returning to his home. However, from the moment Dane locks eyes with Wes, Dane knows through his otherself, the dragon inside, that he's found his mate.

Though Dane tries to deny the attraction, as he doesn't have the best background with dragon shifters and is afraid all he'll do is hurt his mate, he can't stay away from Wes and they end up having a scorching night of passion, which leaves Wes pregnant.

This is one thoroughly enjoyable dragon shifter story!
Dane’s eyes widened, and he ran his hands over my skin. “I’ve never heard of that happening,” he admitted.
“So it’s not a normal part of, um, mating? Or… our bond?”
“I don’t know,” he said slowly. “Wesley, there have never been many dragons in the world. We’re very long lived, and fiercely territorial, which tends to keep the population down. I’ve never known another mated dragon. The hatching that I saw… I’m sure the sire wasn’t one who bonded with his human before mating him, but I don’t know if it would have made a difference. I just don’t know.”
He looked frustrated, but also the tiniest bit hopeful.
“I trust your dragon, Dane. I trust you. And so far, you haven’t let me down.”

black dragon flies

I loved the fiery passion, the emphasis on the emotion of the characters, and I loved Ty, Wes's brother, and Dane's friends Maks and Ben. Though I did miss some character growth information. For example, I will admit I kept wondering throughout the whole thing what Wes does for a living that he could just pack up and leave without notice after he got pregnant, at 22, and still afford to pay his rent without working. Anywho, I digress.

Like I said it's an enjoyable fated mates story, and now that I know Wes's twin Ty gets his own dragon shifter mate (even though as far as they know dragons only mate with men and Ty is disappointingly straight), and there's also Ben's and Maksim's stories to look forward to as well....well, I have just have to read the rest of this series!

I was so in the mood for a good dragon shifter mm!!!!

description

Ok, I know this was not perfect.... but it was so good and original I can't help but love it. Dragon shifters impregnate their fated mates... I LOVED IT!!!! I could have really do with more detail especially with the lovemaking scenes, but even without all the extras I wanted I still loved it and once I fall in love with a character there's no turning back.

Dane the Black dragon with the black hide( I love that word HIDE) so bossy and scared at the same time. I would have to say he was the perfect introduction tho these special dragons. And I love the fact that thy can't keep away from their fated mates instant love. I know there's a thew girls out there that don't believe in love at first site, but I do and If you can't be romantic and love the idea of being in love forever from the first moment then why the hell are you reading romance books???

Wesley, you can't help but like and love. I love that he trusted and loved Dane without pretense or judgement unconditional love - for me it was beautiful and I was amazed.

And Ty well that crazy fucker what can I say you just have to love him.

This was just different and out of the box you have the male pregnancy's breathing fire to bond the compelling of humans but most of all it was the journey of discovering of these amazing dragon beasts.

So it’s no secret that I love a good Dragon Shifter romance. I got stupidly giddy when my BFF told me she found a MM series and so I jumped head first into book one.
Let me start by saying this: I enjoyed the read. So don’t take what I’m about to say as negative feedback please.

I felt as though I couldn’t really get to know the characters because the pace was just that fast. In fact if I let myself dwell on it, I’m probably not going to like what I did learn very much. I enjoyed it because the author really has good ideas and I liked the story, it just didn’t go into any real detail. I think if it was given more detail and a little more time, I would have LOVED the whole shebang.

Like I said, loved the idea but this could have been GREAT and unfortunately it was just nice.

Great start to a new series. Yes the human is smaller (relatively) and so there is a feel of bigger alpha/smaller pregnant guy - but it doesn't come off as feminine even though Wes is definitely gay. The other characters introduced add to the story - and the sex is hot and plentiful. The dragon's themselves are fascinating - their history and differences in culture based on location are pretty unique of a set up.

Everything needed more depth, more detail.

For instance, what does Wesley do for a living? A job is never mentioned. And how is it that his brother is in the service but they live close to each other? You're usually stationed elsewhere, or does Wesley move with his brother?

Are all dragons gay? Are all dragons male? Can male dragons get pregnant? Can human females carry dragon babies? So many questions! Not enough world building.

Somebody call Khalessi because there is a new Mr. Stormborn/father of dragons in town!

Okay so I looked back on my notes and highlighted sentences in this book and they are all from the steamy scenes...so for those of you who want to know if this is going to "light your fire" then see below:

"I felt a little shudder go through him, and then Dane spun me around, pushing me down so that I had to catch myself with both hands on the bed. I arched my back, presenting my ass in a clear invitation to the man who'd just promised to use it"

"Nothing I'd ever felt before had prepared me for the perfection of burying myself in his hot, tight body. Of feeling him surround me, open for me, shudder around me as he came"

"There was only Dane, fucking me, filling me, forcing me closer and closer to the edge and then finally, when his hand snaked around to grasp my shaft and stroke it in time with his thrusts, over it."

Alright, if that didn't do it for you then let me say this. Heat was sappy, short and not at all believable - but that is what makes it so fun to read. Sure, there were a lot of unanswered questions and the world building could use some work, but I actually enjoyed my first Dragon shifter book and I hope it is not my last.

I am REALLY hoping that we get some questions answered in the next installment because I think that would help to explain a few things.

*EDIT* - I should also say that the MPreg didn't bother me in this story like I thought it would. I think I am slowly coming around to it.

On to the next!

This was my first fated mate and mPreg book. It was a quick read. Insta-love is always hit or miss for me, usually miss. I think it's more that this is really a novella and shorter books are always hard for me. There just isn't enough time to get in-depth with the characters because it's usually more focused on throwing a lot of stuff in just a few pages. I do like the dragon shifter aspect, so that was interesting.

Actually this a feel good read. A shape shifting mate - old, a gay romance - old, a secret to tell or a confession to make - old, but a pregnant guy - very new... It's something I never read (except for this one, of course).

If you want something new to read or a good romance with lgbt and dragon theme, give this one a try. Maybe some stagnant chapters but believe me trust your dragon inside.

This was a fast paced story. It involved a dragon finding his mate who turns out to be a human. Oh and he also gets his male mate pregnant! Pretty interesting and a bit weird, right? I enjoyed the two main characters and the story had a nice flow to it. Good story and nice sex scene too! All in all, this was a quick easy and light read.

Honestly, these books are kind of boring. They start off promising, but then they just drag on. I'm on the second one, and I'm not sure I'll be able to finish it because I'm pretty well bored out of my mind.

Human meets dragon shifter’s gaze and basically goes into heat for the shifter.

Shifter compels someone to get human’s address.

Shifter is at human’s house, tells him he’s going to claim him, breeds him and leaves while human is sleeping.

Shifter drives to friend’s house, KNOWS HE BREEDED THE HUMAN BUT IS RUNNING AWAY.

Human gets shifter’s number but deletes it because he knows if they shifter wanted to find him he’d know where he was.

SHIFTER HAS BEEN AWAY FOR A MONTH, little bitch. Irresponsible. * I need a glare emoji*

Sure, just get a HUMAN MALE preggo and run off leaving him to not know wtf is going on while you sit in your self pitty. 🙄

“we both know Wesley can’t survive the pregnancy.”
Wesley is the human btw.
I thought mates and shifters were supposed to be loyal, protective and possessive but we got a selfish absorbed dick instead!

Shifter’s friend tells him he’s being unfair to the human by leaving him alone at a time like this.

Shifter doesn’t care that he’s being a dick because he’s worried about giving the human his fire cos it might kill him so he decides he’d rather just let him die slowly due to his pregnancy instead. 💁🏻‍♀️

Until apparently his dragon takes over a week later.

So 6 weeks of the shifter being a selfish prick.
But wait! Once he noticed another man was sniffing around his human he decided no one could claim him but him. 🙄

It’s the ex showing up trying to get some booty from the human. If the ex wasn’t also a dick I would’ve wanted the human to give it up just put the shifter in his place. *grumble*

Shifter shows up to the house demanding to know who the other male was.

Shifter and human have sex again, cos why bother talking right? Whatever they’re in heat again I guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️

NOW shifter decides he wants to make mate happy. Too late, I already don’t like you. 😩

Okay, apparently we get a week of them being together ? Still not talking about wtf is happening or the fact that the shifter deserted him!

I skimmed to 86% to see what happened turns out if the shifter had gone to chat with a friend he wouldn’t have slowly been killing his mate 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ty is in here dude’ing it up but thankfully he’s not too present.

Am I gonna at least peek at the second one to see if it’s better? Might as well cos apparently I like to torture myself 🤡

My ratings always reflect my enjoyment of the story.

I don’t typically read this genre but it wasn’t too bad. I especially enjoyed that the main issue wasn’t something convoluted and destructive to their relationship. The M-preg thing through me a bit because I wasn’t expecting it, but I did find it fascinating and I was wondering how all of this was going to work out. Even though you have to suspend belief the story was still fun to read. I loved Dane’s commitment to Wes and I liked how they balanced each other out. But mostly this is a M/M erotica. I am interested if there’s more to the story with a series or anything. Anyways this was a good book.

This was a nice easy read. The secret dragon world was interesting and I liked the dynamics between Wesley and his twin brother. Dane came across as a real jerk until he dealt with his fears and decided to love and care for his pregnant mate. There could have been more details about the dragon history and more of Wes and Dane actually getting to know each other, especially after the intense way they met.

"I’d dedicated my long life to conquering the dragon inside me. I hated everything my other self stood for, and from the day I’d found out what I was I’d been driven to atone for the sins of my kind against the humans that were, for the most part, oblivious to our presence among them."

I found the idea of dragons living and secretly shaping human society for thousands of years, a fascinating concept. Dane appealed to me on many levels but especially in his fierce desire to never harm a human - to be different from the rest of dragonkind - to protect them and care for them. Wesley was endearing in his difference from his twin, Tyler, and his belief in the psychic abilities he and Tyler shared, but his brother scoffs at. It is those psychic abilities, however, that help and protect him from what is to come.

In this world, dragons as a species use humans to mate with and once they are pregnant, and ready to deliver, the dragon uses his claws to rip the human baby from the womb, killing the human in the process. They use their dragon power to coerce a human couple into raising the child as their own. When the child shifts for the first time at adulthood, terrified and confused, the sire returns to take the child under his wing and mentor him about being a dragon, and manipulating, using, and killing humans for their own pleasure. Dane, instead of killing his human parents, kills his sire and has spent the last several hundred years trying to learn about being a dragon.

So naturally, when Dane is unable to prevent his beast from mating and impregnating Wesley, Dane runs scared. Too bad Dane doesn’t have a dragon manual because he could have saved himself a lot of worry. Luckily for him, his dragon knows what to do, and how a fated mating is meant to work. I had to give credit to Wesley because Dane pretty much sounds completely crazy, nuts, off his rocker, wacko, etc. when he explains he is a dragon and Wesley is pregnant. And even more credit when Wesley doesn’t faint after finding out it is all true. *grins*

"I wanted him all to myself, where I could protect him, cherish him, love him the way he deserved. Most of all, I wanted to give him the part of me that my human self denied him, the part that would give him the strength to bear our child."

There were some definite unexplained parts of this world the author created that I had some issues with. Two of the biggest are that Wesley didn't seem to have a job or, at least, none was ever mentioned. His twin was military so that made sense but I couldn't figure out how Wesley survived at twenty-two and paid his bills. In fact, no mention of money was ever made so where did Dane get his? The other is that if humans don't know about dragons then how could Dane shift and fly over populated areas and no one ever saw him? Granted, he only flew at night and his dragon was all black but, dude, we have radar. Just saying.

However, those inconsistencies aside, this was a very enjoyable beginning to a new series. I really liked Dane and Wesley, there was a little surprise with the birth, and there were some secondaries I would enjoy seeing more of. If you like dragon shifters and mpreg then I can easily recommend this novella.

I really liked this book. The characters were so likeable, loved the "twin connection" and this new world of dragon shifters.

There are two things though, that are preventing me from giving it a solid five star rating:
1. There wasn't much background given on Wesley, and Dane too. In the entire novel, they kind of lived in a bubble, with random surface-deep mentions of Ty and some nameless friends, no mention of job or studies or anything.
2. The romance lacked some depth, there was only the mention of the dragon-related moments, when it came to how they were bonding outside of those heat-filled moments, it was just a random casual observation, like they grew closer in the past weeks, or something like that. I would have loved to read more in that part, as that's exactly what I enjoy more.

The reason why it got 4 stars is that I am hooked into these different types of dragon-shifters, plus I am currently on a shifter/MPREG binge, so I am enjoying the hell out of the different types of worlds coming my way!;-)

That being said, I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in this series and other works by the authors. I have turned out to be an OMEGA fan, so loving this phase in my reading journey!:-)
