Jaspierre had a little problem. She wasn't sure if she should kill the man who's been locked in her basement or let him go. Mother would be so proud if she did - he did kill her cat. But it's been ten years. Jaspierre can't seem to get mad enough to end him. She also had a slightly bigger problem looming. Chance is returning home. It's not so much the man in her basement that's the issue as much as Chance is a deranged serial killer with a twisted obsession for her that makes his other hobbies look almost sane. When you're the daughter of a mad scientist, surrounded all your life by depraved sex and violence, it seems the problems just mount up all on their own. What's a girl to do?
Yep, I am sure this is all me but I just could not get into this book at all. I even re-read the the beginning because quite honest I WAS LOST!
Maybe if I pushed myself to go further into the book I may fall in love and think this is FABULOUS but I guess I don't want to push myself to finish a book. I should WANT to eat this book up.
This books is about a controlling mother who wants to turn her daughter into a younger version of herself. There is a lot of mind games played throughout this book. There is sex, the F-bomb is used freely so if that isn't your cup of tea, this book isn't for you. I personally enjoyed the characters, all except for mommy dearest, her I could do without, but then the story wouldn't be the same. I received a copy of this book but the review is entirely voluntarily my own.
This is an amazing tale for adults only but still a good sometimes really fun but not a joy ride as you will see in this Gothic style setting. I loved it and you need to get your copy soon to see what I am talking about its very well written, masterful author Mixi J. Applebottom has done well.
Do not waste your time on this book. There. That's my review. I won't waste your time with the gory details about why this book is so horrible. Because I read the book. All of it. And what a waste of time.
Seriously. Why? Why do "authors" do this??? To make money? How can one make money on this?
Are you still reading this? Fine. Then you should know that if you waste your time reading this book, you will at first wonder what is going on because the pacing is very rushed, time jumps around a lot, and there are a lot of missing details. The author has a 17 year old buying a lottery ticket and winning (legal age is 18). At one point, the house is in the middle of nowhere, at another point it is conveniently located near a trailer park. There are serious editing issues and inconsistencies in details. For example: he wished he had gotten her name...three sentences later...Helen did something. The storytelling is equivalent to whiplash. The reader will either need a neck brace or to be talked off the ledge by the time they are done reading this.
By the way, if you are still reading this, don't read this book if you are at all squeamish. This "author" is attempting to write a horror novel. There is a lot of blood in this book. A LOT. I am not squeamish, I don't mind violence, and I don't mind blood. I do mind stupidly written mutilation of toes that has no purpose at all. Oh, was there a purpose? Because the "author" didn't give one, unless if it's to make the poor fellow fall in love with his kidnapper. Yes, that happens - and it's just yet another reason NOT to read this book.
Still reading this? Do I sound angry? Why yes I am! I am mad that I got suckered into this book, wasted time reading it, and now I am wasting time writing a review to prevent others from making the same mistake. No more time wasting. I'm out.
This is a dark and twisted read and I loved reading this! I am definitely a huge fan of dark and sinister reads and this does not disappoint! This is the first book I've read by this author and it definitely won't be the last. I highly recommend reading this and I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
It's a strange mix and difficult to describe. It is written in very light tones and the style is easy to read and very fluid, so it's a very fresh and comfortable read. But many of the incidents described are appalling, violent, bloody, sadistic, murderous ... the list goes on. The subject matter is not light at all.
But this strange combination fits the character of the main character, Jaspierre, so perfectly, that it all seems perfectly natural. She is efficient, wealthy, in control, but loses her temper violently at the drop of a pin. And her bright, super-confident personality is a mask over inner loss and suffering.
But does it work? Well ... yes. Yes, it does. Suffice to say I ordered the second volume in the trilogy as soon as I'd finished this one.
One of the best psychological thrillers I have read in a while. Jaspierre was psychologically and physically abused by her mad scientist mother, who killed without discretion. Jasp could not bring herself to be like her mother, she has kept the same man prisoner for the past ten years. She has only killed once in a blacken rage when her kittens died along with the mother cerval that Lucas accidentally ran down. She has grown to care for Lucas, and even became his lover, though she didn't understand love. Her first sexual experience was being raped by her sometimes friend, mostly tormentor Chance. Her replacement pet cervals have been the only constant loves in her life. She one day plans to kill Chance, if he doesn't find and kill her first.
Jaspierre is amazing! A strong female character that is insane and violent. A woman who normally would be someone to dislike immensely, but kind of how Harris made Hannibal Lector a relatable psychopath, Mixi Applebottom has done with Jaspierre. A child raised by "Mother" - a a wealthy woman that abused her daughter so horribly, physically, mentally, socially and psychologically, that you can find yourself relating to her. And understanding why she is the way she is. Loved it!
Mixi is an awesome writer. But this book was too dark for me. I finished it but could not read any more of this series. However, I think Mixi is an awesome author and those who love dark and rather, um, you know, gross, sick and weird stuff, will love this. Mixi has some other series that I love. Love, love, love! This one, I gave 5 star because of how well Mixi writes and it's not her fault this is not my favorite genre. And you who love this genre will love this book. So that's fair.
To sum it all up, two words: kooky and ew. Almost the whole book consists of medium violence and sex/ sensuality and insane mundane passing. It was somewhat creative, but had no meaningful plot schema. Hence, the "kooky" appraisal. I was drawn to this book, and did need closure, though it was not my cup of tea, and I will not read the sequel.
The story was horrible. There were rape scene, physical and verbal abuse scenes, and blood everywhere. I feel nothing after reading this book. maybe because i couldn't feel the characters.
I bought this almost a year ago, so I had not remembered the description on the site. Reading the description now, it seems like it might have been quirky horror, but it wasn't. I read it in one sitting, but the only reason I got to the end was that I was looking for a redeeming feature. I can't think of a single one. The main character isn't redeemable, she's a psychopath with no good qualities. The other characters are crazy, too. The story focuses on the main two characters enough that you don't even feel empathy for the kidnapped bag boy.
I finished this last night, and all day I've had a mild feeling of disgust. I guess it's from the animals in the book. If you don't like reading about animals in unnecessary pain, avoid this book. It is a horror novel, to be sure, and one series I will not continue reading.
The story line was good, however it jumped back and forth in time quite a bit. I'm still trying to figure out what the significance of cutting the toes off both, the man she fell in love with and the other one she was torturing??
I am not all that familiar with the author but I was happy with the chance to read and review this one I liked the book a lot it was so mysterious and dark full of danger terror suspense action thrill horror twists and turns so much going on that will make you read more and more to know what goes on next the characters were great I liked the story line I am a huge lover of horror and serial killer shows which is why I loved the book now some may not like this so I would advice not to read it if your too emotional or cant handle certain dark events and death as for me I recommend it for any lover of crime shows and horror it wont be the last book I read for her
Jaspierre was a fun but strange story. It took me a while to warm up to it. Then it was up and down. Parts were hard to really understand. I loved Lucas. Hated Chance. Not fond of Mommy Dearest. Cried near the end. That's all you get from me.. If you like quirky warped, messed up characters who are hard to believe exist grab a copy and prepare to be entertained while shaking your head in disbelief. Mixi Applebottom has an awesome imagination.. While "Jaspierre" can be read as a standalone it is a trilogy so be prepared.
“I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review”.
A wonderfully awful tale of a broken twisted woman that was doomed by a demented mother and a sadistic first time. Experiments that a sane person would never try or suggest. A propensity for swords hidden around a unique mansion, hidden rooms with sterilization and playrooms for her pets. You are coming into an amazing brilliant tale of twisted logic.
This was very well written book. I liked it a lot.Thank you for giving me the chance to read it. Thanks to the author because auto correct won't let me put you name in. Thanks
