He’s an award-winning skier and Olympic hopeful, and he’s fallen in love with HER! But between stolen kisses, moonlight skiing and heated whispers, Adonia has the feeling Luke is keeping secrets. When she tries to get him to share, Luke clams up. Not knowing what to do, Adonia decides to back off, but has no idea that everything is about to come crashing down around her. Her love for Luke is about to be tested beyond any relationship she’s ever had! Will their love survive the test? Adonia was just your average girl living in Alaska-she hated math, had boy and parent problems, and loved hanging out with her best friend Lilly more than pretty much anything. She is counting down the days until graduation and moving away from home, and thinks nothing special can happen between now and then. But she's wrong.
The day Lilly leaves for a 3 week long vacation in Florida (much to Adonia's chagrin) is the day that changes the rest of her life-her high school life anyway. That is when she meets Luke; the perfect guy of any girl's dreams. She falls hard and fast, and it seems like he does too. There's only one problem with this perfect picture...she knows he is hiding something. He has a secret, and it could ruin everything.

My Best Friend's Brother is a book that people of all ages will love and enjoy. Chrissy Fanslau brings her story to life with fantastic writing and characters that are believable and relatable to everyone. As soon as you start reading you are hooked-so you might want to clear your calendar! (I'm completely serious... I was reading at work and got in trouble because I was so glued to the book.)
Fanslau draws you in worth her first few pages, and each page after that just gets better than the last. She transports you to Alaska and puts you right in the middle of the story. You feel like you are there, witnessing it all as it happens. She describes everything with great clarity and detail (like neighbors with snot frozen to their faces or a ditzy guidance counselor obsessed with Hawaii) but she doesn't go overboard with them so they slow down the story. She also makes it real. There's nothing really over-the-top about her story and you can believe in everything she writes. Well, maybe the teenage angst is crazy, but most teenagers are like that. And now I'm dating myself lol.
The story is told from Adonia's point of view, so you see, hear, and feel everything she does. You love her immediately-she's sarcastic and funny and simply amazing. I love how she has no filter and "thinks with her mouth"-blurting out whatever is in her mind when she gets nervous. Fanslau has done a great job developing her characters and making them realistic and relatable to anyone of any age; younger readers will instantly understand and older readers will be reminded of their own younger days.
Even though this is technically a YA book, and I'm technically not a YA, I loved this book and I think everyone else will too. It is a fun escape from real life for a while. My Best Friend's Brother is wonderfully done, and I am eagerly waiting for the next book!

I upped the rating really about 2.75 Stars.

I was hoping for a cute comfort read being sick and all. But nope this was not cute or comfy. It was awkward and immature. I really hate giving bad reviews but this is one book that deserved it.

Both the love characters are very awkward, especially Adonia. I wanted to tear out my eyes reading some of their interactions. Very painful.

At times I started to get into it a little, but then came the severe immaturity on the characters parts and the simplistic language just ruined the spark.

I understand this is YA but I’ve read plenty of YA that sounded like it was coming from a younger voice without it being dumbed down.

Maybe the rest of the series gets better but I’m not willing to spend another day of my life figuring it out.

Sorry friends this was not a winner. On to the next adventure!

Okay, it wasn't bad. Just sweet and lots of teen drama. Not really my cup of tea.

I had a little trouble getting into it( I started months ago and never finished) but if you are in the mood for something sweet and innocent and awkward, this might just be it.

So much drama, I loved it. Poor Adonia had her heart being pulled in so many directions at once. I'm glad she got the ending she did. Luke seems like once he becomes a man he will be the perfect man.

Okay, so I read this for a challenge.. and that's pretty much it.

My Best Friend's Brother was kind of annoying to dive into. Luckily, for me, it went by pretty quickly. In it, you will meet Lilly and Adonia. They are the very best friends any girl could have but there's just one little problem. Lilly suddenly has a twin brother.. and she's going to Florida for about 3 weeks. Well, okay, two problems for Adonia because she's slightly freaking out that she never knew her best friend had a twin.. and she is really jealous that Lilly is going to Florida.

The only thing that was cool about this book was that it was set in Alaska. That's pretty much it for me because I'm dying to go see this place. I love winter and I'm definitely in the exploring mood. So yeah, need an Alaska trip soon!

Back to these girls, communication is key to any relationship and friendship. So while Lilly is away, Adonia is out to play. She ends up meeting this little hottie named Luke. Things start to heat up kind of quickly between these teenagers.. and they jump into being boyfriend and girlfriend after knowing each other for a day. Sounds like a hallmark or lifetime movie if you ask me.. but you didn't.

There was a lot of unnecessary drama in this book. So much that I think I might've sprained my eyeballs for rolling them so much. Not exactly sure if that's a thing or can be possible but they are tired today. All I can say about this book is that things felt rushed. It was an okay book but I was annoyed with a lot of things.

Sorry to disagree.

Hated it. Didn't really finish it cause it pained me to read this.

Didn't feel connected to the characters. Seems so fake and unrealistic. The whole I love you after 2 days. Urgh, sick of authors taking the lazy way out and not building a story to support this. Also we don't need to be told 'he's hot' every two pages. I get it. Greek god. Yep. Cool, we get it. The engagement ring moment after 2 weeks (even though it wasn't) that's not normal thinking. Even for loved up youths.

The twist is in the title.

It's as if every other sentence was done like this! No joke! I just couldn't get on board with the fact that everything was an exclamation! Even the thoughts in her head!

Annoying and took away from the story, which could have been okay.

There's a spoiler in the title of the book. Otherwise, it was pretty cute for a sappy teen "romance" with inexperienced kids falling in love quickly and having fights over petty things while not communicating with each other properly.

I enjoyed reading My Best Friend's Brother, it is one of those books that is very well written with enough romance to appeal to both young and older readers. I was pulled in from the very first few page where we find our young heroine, Adonia- in the guidance counselor's office. I thought their interaction was funny, and I thought the sports illustrated magazine was a good touch. This author has a way with words that really brings the scenes and characters to life up off the pages, there is also a hint of sarcasm in her writing that is witty and livens up the book for sure. I liked that the plot wasn't straightforward, but had a couple twists and turns such as the mysterious way Luke suddenly start behaving towards Adonia. This was a sweet book that I enjoyed reading immensely, but I would also have no problem letting my teenage daughter read it as well.

I hate to be harsh, but I couldn't finish this book. It looks to be written by a teenager with an over abundance of exclamation marks and italicized words.

This is a great story about 17 year olds who are at the crossroads to choose for what they want to do!
Some already know, others don’t.

The build up is like that of any great movie, at some point all looks super bad and seems to only get worse.
But then someone does something out of the ordinary, whether it’s the main character or a teacher. It gets the ball rolling and good things start to happen.
The right choices are made.

I once was at the same crossroad and a student advisor changed my perspective because of what she said. I wanted to join the navy, but also keep on studying. So she suggested I go to the seafarers college. When I visited the place where the college was, on an island, I instantly felt at home.
So from then on I had no doubt it was the right choice.

Of course it won’t be like that for everyone, but it’s great to read a story like this.
To believe that if you manage to keep looking for the positive things in life, you’ll eventually get them. Even if it means you have to work really hard to get it.

It was only after starting this book that I realised it was a young adults book and I therefore found it a little childish and predictable all about young high school love.
Lilly is off on holiday to Florida from Alaska. However, before she goes she informs her best friend, Adonia, that her brother - who has been away for many years - is coming to live with her family in Alaska. While Lilly is away, Adonia is in the library when she meets the hottest guy she has ever seen and the great part of it all is that he seems to find her hot too. They date for a while before Lilly returns and Adonia discovers that her Luke, is no other than the brother of Lilly. Then for a while Adonia loses both her lover and her best friend before all is resolved in a happy ending to everyone's satisfaction. The book does contain some interesting other scenarios though such as the possible breakdown of Adonia's parents marriage, and the loneliness of her brother.

Language: R (64 swears, 4 "f"); Mature Content: PG13; Violence: PG
Get ready for a lot of petty high school drama. Adonia and Luke fluctuated between being madly in love and so awkward there was nothing to say, and the highest point of conflict was lame. Everything could have been solved with a little communication and is very nearly avoided because the characters knew what they should be doing. It was hard to like this book when I didn't like the main characters' relationship. I recommend reading something with more substance. The mature content is for sexual activity and mentions of sex.

Adonia is a pretty much worthy character for the teenagers nowadays. She handle things pretty well at the start but looks like she's losing her grip and overreact along with her best friend in the middle of the story. However, I think she gets panic and upset at the time she started to loose everyone around her. Her boyfriend, her best friend and her family too. Too much for a teenager to take in. Story ends pretty well and I'm trying to guess how the 2nd book is gonna start.

A teenage love ffair

Adonia lives in Alaska where her bestfriend is Lilly. Lilly wantsto come home from a vacation in Florid ealy, and asks Adonia to pick her p at the airport. Lilly doesn't shw up, but boy gets off the plane that Adonia thinks is ahunk. They end up dating and fallin in love. What Adonia doesn't know is Luke isher best friend's twin. This leads to What I think are some funny situations. Read the book, and you will probablyenjoy it.

It was ok but....

Overall, an easy read. A little unrealistic (falling in love after 2 days really???). I hated how Adonia was pitifully running after Luke. She was way to desperate for me. He "lied" to her, but he turned it all around on her and she foolishly fell for it (manipulation?). Another thing that was annoying was the multiple references to how "hot" she thought he was. Okkkkkkk we get it geeez. It didnt even seem like she fell in love but more like she fell in lust. Lastly, I could have done without the cursing, but it was otherwise a good book. I give it a 3 stars. Probably wont read part 2 unless its a free read.

I started this book expecting more drama with it being the main character’s best friend’s brother but quickly found out that the main character didn’t even know he existed. It made for an interesting story as she met him outside of her friend and never made the connection. The drama was okay, but not like I expected. It was a quick and easy read tho. I probably won’t finish the rest of the books but would recommend it for anyone looking for a quick read.

This was pleasant and enjoyable to read. It was quite short and didn’t take me very long to make my way through it.
For a young adult book, it was not bad and an easy read with not too much deep issues. This book is mainly about best friends, relationships and falling in love with your best friends brother, the fall out can be brutal.

Clean, cute, sweet

This was a cute and sweet coming of age story (I'd call it this). This was a clean story which included many issues which relate to real life. This could of been about any high school students. Recommended for ages of 16-21 maybe up to 25, sweet for the older people.

Sweet love story

High School can be tough. Navigating a social life and pondering your future only make it more difficult. True life story with it's hard times and sweet relationships Favreau has captured what it was like in high school bit with a nice focus on the good parts. Glad the story continues in book two.

So amazing

I like the story because it tells about two people, Adonia and Luke and how they fell in love, got torn apart and found each other again after all that happened while Adonia was dealing with family trouble.

This was incredibly cheesy and at first I worried I wouldn't get through it. There wasn't much character building and I felt like we were just dropped in the middle of a story already being told. It was a little disconcerting. But I kept with it and though cheesy I still ended up enjoying it.

This helped pass the time but the writing felt removed from the characters. There were some very funny lines though. I’m not going to read the rest of the series.
Also if the secret is in the title of the book, it’s not suspenseful...
