Great suspense fiction can be all consuming, and Lisa Harris writes that kind of story. I found the action in her latest novel MISSING to be a little like trying to take a sip of water from a fire hose — the pressure never. let. up.

Nikki Boyd and The Missing Persons Special Task Force search for the wife of Mac Hudson, a would be whistle blower employed by Byrne Laboratories. The body count rises as the team follows a labyrinth of clues, zig-zagging around Nashville in a frantic search for Lucy Hudson. This book boasts intense action, reminiscent of a Jason Bourne movie (only rated PG), which made for a fast-paced thrilling read.

Readers returning for their second installment of the Nikki Boyd Files will already know some of Nikki and Tyler’s history. That being said, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the book to someone new to the series. Harris continues adding layers in the case of Nikki’s missing sister and the death of Tyler’s wife, with enough details from VENDETTA included for this novel to stand on it’s own. As before, Nikki and Tyler’s friendship/romance is a slow burn that binds me to this series with an eager expectancy.

PURSUED releases in April 2017!

I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Detective Nikki Boyd works on the Missing Persons Task Force. She's called out to a home where two people have been murdered, but they aren't the homeowners. The two homeowners are missing. Nikki and her partner Jack Spencer begin their search for Mac and Lucy Hudson. Their first stop leads them to a boat which belongs to Nikki's friend Tyler Grant. Onboard there is another dead body. Nikki doesn't know how Tyler ties into this crime, but she is sure he would never kill anyone. When more bodies begin turning up, it looks like someone is eliminating anyone who can incriminate the killer.

This is the second book in the Nikki Boyd Files. It picks up a couple of weeks after the first story ends. The suspense portion of the story was well done. There was a lot of action and the investigation kept moving forward. Unlike the suspense, the romance moved at a snail's pace. Nikki has fallen for Tyler Grant. His wife was her best friend until she died in an accident a year ago. Nikki loves him from afar; and supports him in his grief. She keeps hoping he will eventually get over the death of his wife and see how much she loves him. I was totally bored by their relationship. Overall, a good suspense story if you just breeze through all the mooning Nikki does over Tyler. My rating: 4 Stars.

This one is so hard to put down! I'm loving this new series of Lisa Harris's, and am not looking forward to the wait for book three. Nikki is called in when a couple disappears from their suburban home, but leaves behind two bodies of people who'd broken in. Evidently something terrible happened, and pretty quickly it's obvious that this case is going to redefine terrible. Someone is trying to cover up a lucrative tainted drug ring and will stop at nothing to protect their profits.

Each clue builds naturally on the other, and it's a thrilling ride to follow Nikki and her friends to the end of the chase.

Nikki Boyd doesn't usually investigate homicides. But when her task force is called in to assist on a missing persons case associated with a homicide, Nikki and her team jump right in. The first set of clues lead them to the marina and the boat that just happens to belong to her friend Tyler Grant where there is another dead body. Now the stakes have just been raised. Nikki must figure out what connection Tyler has to the case, find the missing woman, and do it all without getting killed. Because someone is silencing anyone looking for answers and now Nikki's life is in danger.

When I read the first book last year, I really enjoyed it. This one, pulled me in from the first page and didn't let me go. I think I finished this one in a matter of hours.

I loved how quickly Nikki had to work to stay one step ahead of the killer. I also loved seeing how she has grown since book one. Her relationship with Tyler is evolving as well. I am looking forward to seeing what will develop between these two as well.

Nikki's team is wonderful. I love how they work together to put the clues together and to help keep Nikki safe.

While this was book 2, it could easily be read as a stand alone.

I received the Kindle version of this book for free from Revell via NetGalley for the purpose of reviewing. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this suspense and action filled story. Nikki Boyd still struggles with her sister's disappearance 10 years ago and consequently is always willing to go above and beyond to help with other missing persons cases. When her current case leads to the boat of her friend, Tyler Grant, she must put aside her growing feelings for him and untangle the threads that involve counterfeit drugs and a killer.

With several twists and turns, this fast paced, suspenseful story will keep you on the edge of your seat. And the sweet relationship and growing feelings between Nikki and Tyler will make you smile in delight. I'm looking forward to the next book, Pursued!

LOTS of action in a short amount of time in this second book of the Nikki Boyd Files. In Missing, Agent Boyd is searching for a missing woman named Lucy. The circumstances surround her disappearance involve a number of villains and a few innocent parties.

What I enjoyed more than the actual suspense was getting an update on the relationship with Agent Boyd and Tyler and learning more about Agent Boyd's missing sister Sarah.

While I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as Vendetta, it was a solid suspense read and I'd recommend the entire series.

My gratitude to Free Christian Books for a complimentary e-copy of the novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

My thoughts: As the sequel to Lisa Harris' Vendetta, the story in Missing easily captures the reader's attention and compels binge reading.

Nikki Boyd returns to solve another missing person's case when homicide discovers that the scene of the crime they are investigating actually involves a missing teacher and her husband. They call in Special Agent Boyd.

The plot engages Nikki's long-term friend, Tyler Grant, and his father-in-law. As Nikki follows clues to find the missing persons, action involving more murders, boats being bombed, and healing drugs actually causing death.

Nikki is personally involved in trying to find her missing sister, Sarah, and references to this ongoing situation are sprinkled through Missing. I really hoped that the author would have Nikki find resolution to this personal drama in Missing, but that seems to await future revelations.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Missing and anticipate future stories from the author.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher to facilitate this review of my own opinions. I was not compensated for the review.

Oh wow! This book was so good! Missing by Lisa Harris was everything I loved about this series and more!! I think I liked this one a little more than Vendetta, which is a great book on it's own. But I feel like the writer turned up the heat in Missing. This book packs a punch!

You are thrown into the middle of a crime scene with Nikki Boyd, in a home in the suburbs, with two people dead and the owners of the home missing, Lucy and Mac Hudson. Which turns into a full fledged search, that leads them to a boat of Nikki's friend, Tyler Grant, and another dead body. Right! As if things aren't bad enough!
Nikki must sort through ties between Tyler and the Hudson's to prove his innocence, and find out what happened that fateful night. Which pulls her into a deadly maze of counterfeit drugs and a killer who will stop and anything to silence anyone who will stop him.

Missing has tons of suspense, mystery, and action. Lol, I have to stop reading book like this late at night, every little creek I heard I was like "what's that!!"
I love how this book has a proper pace to it, giving you plenty of surprises without unveiling everything too quickly.

I really like reading from Nikki's pov. I love the passion and dedication that she has to find the missing and bring forth justice. Which comes from knowing what it's like to have a love one missing, from the abduction of her younger sister,Sarah. She took the pain from that experience and made it into a mission to help others. Stories like that are tragic and encouraging. And I appreciate the progressive healing that the author showed in Nikki's character. That even though she was a believer, she still had struggles, guilt and unanswered questions, but she continued to believed God according who He is in His word and not her current situation. A reminder like that is always good to have. That we can fully trust God in all circumstances, because He is good and there no darkness in Him.

I love the relationship that Nikki has with the people on the Missing Persons unit, Jack And Gwen. It's always exciting seeing them unravel mysteries and take down evil people. Plus, it will be interesting to see how things turn out between Nikki and Tyler in the upcoming books, I think they are so good for each other! I'm totally rooting for them.

I am so ready to see what happens next in Pursuit!

I give this book 5 stars!!

Missing is the second book in the Nikki Boyd Files and I didn't enjoy it as much as book one, Vendetta. I can't figure out why exactly that was, but maybe it had to do with the case (counterfeit drugs), I just had a hard time getting into that part of the book. I will say, though, the book started out intriguing and I loved the last couple chapters -- those definitely held my attention. It was just the middle section of the book that didn't really interest me.

I really liked the characters and the last scene has me eager to pick up the next book, Pursued, because I can't wait to see what happens next with something.

All in all, while I didn't love Missing, I did still enjoy it. It leaves me curious as to what is going to happen next regarding a relationship and also what might be revealed regarding a cold case that is personal for Nikki.

Book 2 in the Nikki Boyd series is more romance-focused than book 1, and the mystery was less intense than the first. It was still enjoyable and I will absolutely continue the series. Those who enjoy a romance plot line in a mystery are likely to enjoy this one a little more than I did.

I didn’t realize two things when I started this book:

It’s the second book in a series
It’s a romantic suspense, not just a mystery novel

Luckily, the fact that Missing is a sequel didn’t affect my understanding of the story too much. I do think I missed some things in not reading the first book before starting Missing, but overall I was able to follow along just fine.

I’m not a big fan of romantic suspense books. I love mysteries and thrillers, but romantic suspense? Not so much. The emphasis tends to be on the romance and not the suspense (really, I think they should be called “romances involving detectives”). Don’t get me wrong, I like it when books contain a romance element. I just don’t want to the romance to be the main plot.

Romantic suspense novels tend to follow a pretty generic formula (at least in the ones I’ve read): Detective is assigned to a case, meets attractive guy or girl, and after a few days they’re convinced they must be soulmates. Insta-love abounds in romantic suspense novels. Unfortunately, the mystery is often forgotten in order for the love story to develop.

(I’m not bashing authors or readers of romance books. It’s just not generally my thing. *Shrugs* Insta-love also abounds in many dystopian novels, which is my thing. Insta-love is everywhere. I find it annoying, regardless of genre.)

However, I found Missing refreshing in that I didn’t think the romance overpowered the story. While I did sometimes tire of the chapters where Nikki is pining after Tyler and is plagued by the question of “should I tell him I love him?”, I also appreciated that the actual mystery was given equal thought as the romance. Besides, Nikki and Tyler’s relationship isn’t insta-love. They’ve known each other for a while and have spent time together long before Missing starts. I liked that their relationship doesn’t follow the “we’ve only known each other for three days but we’ve had several gaze into each other’s eyes moments so we must be soulmates” thing that’s WAY too common in books and movies these days.

The main negative I had is that the ending felt too convenient. Everything just seemed to conclude too easily and too quickly. The identity of murderer, Nikki and Tyler’s relationship, the subplot with Nikki’s brother….it all was just sort of resolved without much of a climax, in my opinion. I also wish Nikki’s faith in God played a bigger role. Other than an occasional prayer and scripture quote, the spiritual aspect didn’t get much emphasis. Overall, though, I did find the plot (a murder that leads to a conspiracy involving counterfeit medicines) intriguing.

Is Missing a new favorite of mine?

Not necessarily.

Is it better than most romantic suspense novels I’ve read?

Absolutely.

I have loved several of Lisa Harris' books including the first book in this series, Vendetta. So needless to say I was very much looking forward to this book, and I really enjoyed it. The suspense was crazy and soooo good, I hated to set the book down! Suspense/romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres and I've read a lot of them so it's rare for any plot twists to fully surprise and shock me, but I am pleased to say that there were several twists in this story that I absolutely did not see coming, loved that! I really liked getting to know Nikki better, and I was glad that even though there wasn't that much included this story did advance the plot line of Nikki trying to solve the case of her sister's kidnapping, I had been waiting with bated breath to find out the next piece of the story. I just have to say that even though she didn't have much page time, I loved Lucy, her and Mac's story broke my heart and I spent a large portion of the book hoping that she was still alive, I got so emotionally invested that I actually had to stop reading at times and remind myself that she was a fictional character, not a real person!
This book was really good and I enjoyed it but I don't think I loved it as much as the first book in the series, it felt to me like there was quite a bit of what seemed to me to be unnecessary repetition of things regarding the case. And I don't really know why but I guess I just never quite connected to the story in the same way as I did with the first book.
This was a great story which I highly recommend but I think it would be best to read Vendetta first to avoid any potential spoilers. I am eagerly anticipating the third book, Pursued and let me just say that after reading the preview of it at the back of Missing I seriously want Pursued NOW! :D

I really enjoyed reading Missing by Lisa Harris. It is book two in the series, but this novel’s main story of a missing woman named Lucy does stand alone. I would recommend reading the first book in the series, Vendetta, if you want to understand more about Nikki Boyd and her history with her missing sister, as well as the relationship she has with her friend, Tyler. These plot lines are much more thoroughly fleshed out in Vendetta and only lightly weave themselves through Missing.

This story kept me guessing for quite a while, wondering who was the main villain behind all of the deaths. It was exciting and the action really kept up till almost the very end of the book. I was happy with the ending of the novel, even though it felt a little bit rushed, and am now eagerly anticipating the next novel in the series.

4.5 Stars! =D Better than the first. =)

So I really like the plot in this one. The characters that we meet actually have something to do with the overall mystery. There is more character development for the main character and some of the side characters. I felt that we still needed some more development, but it was an improvement from the last story.

It was nice that we got to explore some more personal things from Tyler and how certain things were connected to his wife who had died.

I love stories of trying to find someone who doesn't want to be found. ;) And the investigation side of stuff in these books is pretty fun.

The Characters:

Nikki. She is okay. I love that we got to see her have more development in this one. I love how she also treats Tyler and how she wouldn't push him in a relationship if he wasn't ready. Even though I shipped Tyler and Nikki together, I found it was weird how Nikki always referred him as "her best friend's husband". Which was who Tyler was, except it just felt weird every time she said it, like she was trying to nab her best friend's husband for herself. So I kind of felt where Nikki was coming from and how she was unsure at first if she was right in doing what she was doing. Also how she was with Liam and her brother Luke! YES!!!

Liam. I wished he was in book one (and I mean besides the end). He was just a sweet boy who needed more of a role in this book! He was wise, suffering, but was so brave and great!

Luke! Nikki's brother! He was great and funny and needed more page time! I only wished he didn't do everything he did, but I think that overall he is a good guy.

Tyler. Suffering from the loss of his wife and everything else that was going on. I thought he could have had more character development. But overall I loved him.

JACK!!! YES!!!! AND HE GOT A GIRL!!! REPEAT!!!! HE GOT HIMSELF A GIRL!!!! AND I LOVE HER TO!!! WHY DOESN'T THESE CHARACTERS HAVE MORE PAGE TIME!?! AND HIS GIRL EVEN GOT HIM CAKE!!! LIKE BEST SCENE EVER!!!

What I Didn't Like:

Like I said before, this series is so far a plot driven series which is okay, but I would have love to see more character development. The side characters should get more page time. But like I said before, this story does give us more character development than the first book and I was happy with how the characters were turning out.

I wanted more development with the subplot of finding Nikki's sister. Like we had some, but then that cop was trying to tell Nikki to stop looking. And while he might be right in real life, I WANTED MORE DEVELOPMENT!!! YOU CAN'T JUST START SOMETHING IN A BOOK AND NOT TELL ME MORE ABOUT IT!!! But Nikki hasn't stopped looking yet, so we might know more in the next two books, maybe? Hopefully? Pretty please? With whipped cream and a cherry on top?

Also because of all the homicides in this book, I thought that the homicide department would be more involved. That the missing person department and the homicide department would work on the case together with the homicide department being the lead group. BUT, I know only a little about the police force. So what do I know?

Content In Book:

1. Mentions of a guy who kidnapped girls and killed them.

2. Several dead people. (Some who were shot, some from a car accident, some from a exploding bomb, some from suicide (jumping off a building while holding someone else against his will), some from counterfeit drugs, etc.)

3. Violence. (With guns. Killing people. Holding someone under water for interrogation. With a bomb. Hand-to-hand combat. Threatening someone. Etc.)

4. Mentions of a pregnant woman falling off of a boat and drowning.

5. Mentions of counterfeit drugs.

6. Mentions of a couple trying to get pregnant but couldn't so they are trying other methods.

7. A tattoo parlor.

8. Mentions of a character drinking alcohol and having to go to an alcohol rehab center.

9. Mentions of a character being in foster care and spending time with the tough crowd.

10. Suicide (jumping off a building while holding someone else against his will).

Will I Continue With the Next Book in the Series???

Yep! I own Pursued so it is only a matter of time before I get to it. ;)

Who I Would Recommend This Book To:

Those who had read the first book Vendetta.

Those who like mysteries. Those who like thrillers. Those who like plot driven stories. Those who like stories that get into the investigation part.

This book is about the manufacturing of counterfeit drugs which are then distributed to the doctors and given to some patients who are dying. When Mac Hudson who works for the drug company tries to blow the whistle, he is murdered and his wife, Lucy, is now missing. The exciting plot had non-stop action in every chapter which kept the pages turning. The story was very well-written and Lisa Harris did excellent research into the problem of counterfeit drugs and their consequences. Murder mixed with a little romance has Nikki and Tyler's friendship moving closer to a relationship. As in the first book, Nikki is still looking for her missing sister, Sarah, and a few more clues are added to her search. I can't wait to read the third book, Pursued, which I have received from the publisher for an honest review. I would highly recommend this series to those who love murder thrillers mixed with a little romance.

Wow!!

I just finished this book and all I can think to say is WOW! This romantic suspense kept me turning the pages. I didn't figure out who the bad guy was. Which is what I like in a suspense novel. I also love the romance thread throughout the story. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Intense suspense is what Lisa Harris does best & this novel shows her talent well. I was already excited to read the sequel to “Vendetta”, but by the first paragraph I was completely locked in. (The first paragraph is so beautiful written, y’all!) This book was wonderfully suspenseful and I oh-so enjoyed it. Now, don’t get me wrong, I would have liked a bit more Spiritual Content and that last chapter was a bit rushed (but I can see it being realistic), and since the plot was about homicides there was a lot of deaths (six by page sixty-two!), I still really enjoyed this book and am eagerly waiting for Spring of 2017 for the next Nikki Boyd file!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from Baker Publishing, and again was unaware that this was a book 2 in a series. However, I still read the book since I felt obligated to do so. In the future I will be looking these books up first and then decide on what I want to review.

Synopsis
Nikki Boyd Enters the Deadly World of Counterfeit Drugs to Find a Missing Woman
Nikki Boyd isn't usually called in on homicides; her forte is missing persons. But when a case with two murdered and two missing pops up on a quiet suburban street, she's ready to start the investigation and find missing homeowners Mac and Lucy Hudson. When the first clues lead her to the boat of her friend Tyler Grant--and another dead body--Nikki must untangle what ties Tyler to the Hudsons. The clues pull her into a deadly maze of counterfeit drugs and a killer who will stop at nothing to silence anyone who threatens his business--including Nikki.
Christy Award-winning and bestselling author Lisa Harris puts readers right into the action in this fast-paced thriller that will have them turning pages long into the night.

This was just ok for me and was not a good book to read just after coming out of a reading slump. This story was so slow and lacked the excitement that I look for in Mystery. Part of this could be due to the fact that it was a book 2 rather than the first one. The actual mystery of the story was pretty good, it did make me think about whodunit, but the story itself was kind of like someone who talks monotone. It just kind of carried on, and then the finale of the story lacked excitement as well. The readers get built up on all the suspects and then the time comes to finding out and WOW it was so anti climatic when the perp was revealed.

I felt like the characters were semi developed, but I did not connect to the characters at all, again this could be due to the fact of not being the first book. They were pretty one dimensional and I felt like I did not really know who they were, and I will not learn anything else about them since I will not be continuing with the series. I am pretty picky when it coms to characters, especially in Mystery books, but I love to read about flawed characters who can beat the odds in the end, those who can use their trials to overcome future obstacles. I don't feel like I experienced those kinds of characters with this one.

I can't really recommend this book to anyone unless slow mysteries are your thing. I felt like I was trudging through Molasses. Like I said the 'whodunit' part was decent, so if you like those books here you need to solve the mystery then you may like this one.

If Nikki Boyd wanted time in her life for mundane necessities like food and sleep, she certainly shouldn’t have signed on for this series! There was no time to stop as she sought to get to the bottom of who was after Mac and Lucy Hudson and why, but it’s hard to get answers when the people you need to speak to keep dying. Not only that, but Tyler has somehow managed to get tangled up in the case, meaning that he (and potentially his son, Liam) are also targets.

I think Lisa Harris’s plotting has stepped up a notch with this series. The plot was definitely what kept me hooked into this story – well paced, with plenty of danger, and constantly shifting as Nikki and her partner Jack try to get to the bottom of everything. As a suspense novel, this was definitely a good read.

I found the romantic plot less engaging. Readers of Vendetta will already know Tyler and Nikki’s story (but there’s also enough to pick it up in this one if you haven’t): Tyler was married to Nikki’s best friend, Katie, who died thirteen months ago in a boating accident. Dealing with the grief of Katie’s death has brought Tyler and Nikki closer together, and at the end of the previous novel, Nikki realised that her feelings have moved beyond merely friendship.

The difficulty when a romantic plot stretches across a series is keeping the tension up, but also keeping it moving forward. There was certainly tension here, with Nikki wishing she could tell Tyler about the change in her feelings, but holding back because it’s too soon for him. Tyler is also considering some options for his future that bring a little extra tension to the relationship. But for the most part I felt like we were getting the same inner narrative each time they were together. That said, the romantic plot is not the primary focus in this novel, so it didn’t impact my enjoyment of the novel overmuch. And there was some payoff at the last minute (and that's all I'm sayin' about that! ;-) ).

All said, I'm definitely looking forward to the next novel in this series. There were reminders of the case concerning the disappearance of Nikki's sister, Sarah (the other topic that tended to get a bit repetitive in the inner narrative), but not much in the way of developments here. Something else to look for in later releases!

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Nikki Boyd and her partner, Jack Spencer, specialize in finding missing persons. Their newest case also involves murder, and the body count keeps growing. Can they find the missing woman before her enemies do?

Complicating the issue is the fact that Nikki’s good friend Tyler Grant and another man she knows are both linked with the crime. And somewhere in the process of comforting Tyler after his wife’s death, she’s fallen for him, even though he’s not ready to move on.

Missing is a fast-paced suspense novel that starts with action and doesn’t slow down. Nikki and Tyler are realistic characters with depth and struggles, learning to live with crippling loss. And learning not to blame themselves for what happened. In Nikki’s case, her younger sister’s abduction is the reason she’s in this line of work. It lets her empathize with victims’ families, but it also takes an emotional toll.

This is book 2 in the Nikki Boyd Files series. You don’t have to have read book 1, Vendetta, first, but it’s a series worth starting at the beginning. For more about author Lisa Harris and her novels, visit lisaharriswrites.com.

This is the second story in this series, and it sure doesn’t disappoint, except I have to wait until next spring for another. Nikki Boyd and Tyler Grant are together again when another body is found.
This story is going to touch you and make you wonder if are drugs are safe? While dealing with this case Nikki and Tyler are still working through their own demons, Nikki her missing sister Sarah, and Tyler loosing his wife in an accident he felt he could have prevented.
This story is packed with action, and you never know who will be the next victim to fall, I never saw a lot of it coming, but greed and evil try to prevail. You will find yourself griping your book, and waiting for the next shoe to drop, and never see what is coming next, or who is the perpetrator.
I highly rate this quick read; the pages fly and before you know it the end is here.

The cover of this book really intrigued me so I was excited to read it. This was an enjoyable thriller/ police procedural story with some big surprises. The story read like a movie, it was very easy to picture and kept me turning pages to see what would happen next. I had a few problems with the story though…there were a lot of characters and it was difficult to keep everyone straight. I also didn’t like that there is the story line of the main character’s missing sister that ran parallel to the main plot. I hadn’t read the first book so I was a bit in the dark when it came to that story line. I also didn’t find that story line particularly interesting. The author gave a bit of new information as far as that part of the plot went but it was left open for the next book.

Overall, this was an average thriller worth reading but it didn’t stand out.

I received this book from Baker Publishing Group in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 Stars

I enjoyed this one almost as much as the first! It had its own gripping tale/mystery, and I couldn't guess who the 'bad guy' was.
I thought it was nice to see a certain relationship continue from the thread of the first book.
The only thing is that in this second book, there wasn't a whole lot about Nikki's missing sister, which was fine, but I guess I was expecting more. And when it was mentioned, it almost felt like it was just thrown in there. Looking forward to seeing how it ties up in the third book!
This can be read as a standalone, I think. Of course, you'd get more of a background in reading the first before it, but it's not necessary to understanding the plot. "Missing" had its own crime story.

Like I said, this was a book I enjoyed, and am excited to read the next one!

Another case for Nikki Boyd and another suspense ride for me. I found the missing person angle of this book to be fascinating. Even though murder had occurred, there was still an opportunity for Nikki to find a missing person before it happened again. I liked the hope threaded through the suspense. Definitely a thrilling read with many twists, turns, and exciting moments. But, when I read a Christian book, I like having more substance in what I read. Something to stretch me and help me grow in my walk with God. Nevertheless, a fun read.
