4.5 - "I set the fires and you put them out." Stars!

The first book in Melissa Cutlers’ One and Only Texas series delivers a sweet, sexy read, that also sets up the town and people of Dulcet, Texas really well.

I think the first thing that stands out about One Hot Sumner is the scope that the author has in relation to expansion on the series, bearing in mind that you have the townsfolk of Dulcet in the equation for one, you also have the staff and Members of the Briscoe Ranch Resort in the mix too. This is a series with the potential to run and run, and Melissa is certainly an author that knows how to build and develop a series with great skill.

"You’re not my first fire marshal."

Remedy Lane is your typical city girl out of water, I loved her innate clumsiness, if there is an opportunity to trip, slip, drive into or fall over an object she pretty much manages to do it. Add in an errant elephant, and a flock of homing pigeons who are not actually sure where their home is, and her first few weeks on the job as the resorts events co-ordinator are more than a little eventful.

"We can’t breathe in each other’s airspace without ticking each other off."

Remedy’s initial relationship with Local County Fire Chief Micah Garrity, is certainly not all warm and fuzzy, but the author did a really great job of building the attraction and sexual tension between them as well as the chemistry as their working ‘frenemy’ relationship developed. I absolutely loved that he always seemed to be on hand whenever she had one of her little klutzy disasters. Big city girl, and small town fireman are soon doing more than just burning up the sheets, and I loved this relationship, opposites really do attract in this one.

"My bed or yours."

We have a slight blip in the story-line with the inclusion of Remedy’s abhorrent family and friends in the latter stages of the book, this is a group of people that could have become very annoying very quickly for me, luckily Remedy didn’t take too much of their own particular brand of snobbery and small-mindedness before she kicked them into touch, and I liked that Melissa didn’t drag this aspect of the plot out, as it really would have ruined the vibe of the story for me.

"Loving you is really turning out to be a wild ride."

A great start, with lots of interesting new character introductions, to what promises to be a really entertaining series. One More Taste is the next book due in October, and I am interested to see what sort of story the author gives Emily Ford, as Briscoe Ranch Resort’s Executive chef, getting involved with the bosses errant son, may cause more than a few burnt fingers.

I think Melissa Cutler is an underrated writer. I have been a fan of Ms. Cutler since her Catcher Creek books and this is my third series written by her. I would love to see her recognized more for her outstanding writing. One of the things I admire most about this author is her ability to write alienated characters with depth, sympathy, and in this book, tons of humor. Remedy Lane is a highly regarded wedding planner. She is also famous for being a child of two members of Hollywood royalty (think Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell), and infamous for a wedding debacle of another noted couple from Tinseltown. She is now working at the Briscoe Ranch Resort, a famous wedding destination in the middle of nowhere Texas. She comes here to lick her wounds and re-establish herself as a premier event planner. The one man standing in her way is Fire Chief Micah Garrity who insists on following the rules to the letter.

I enjoy the strong storyline that captures my attention from the first. The opening scene is Remedy trying to corral a runaway elephant that loves foul language off the golf course. It ends with a fist-trunk bump between Remedy and the pachyderm. That has me giggling, but this narrative also contains serious themes. I am reminded of how easy it is to make assumptions about people based on their economic class. Briscoe Ranch lives in the middle of a small town in Western Texas. People here are mostly in the middle to lower economic class. There is a love – hate relationship between the town and the ranch. The resort is the economic heart of their town, but it also brings in the arrogant, entitled, rich guests who look upon the residents in a condescending manner. Micah, a life-long resident, mistakenly judges Remedy as one of the haughty executives from the resort who kowtows to the invading rich snobs. However, Remedy surprises him with her courage, self-effacing humor, and generous heart. She, being the child of two famous actors, is used to being perceived as a princess, but Remedy struggles to be judged by her merits. As she tells Micah, “I’m here for a chance to start over with my life. Where I came from doesn’t define me. What defines me is that I work my ass off and I’m a good person.”

Remedy is often alienated from the people around her because of her celebrity status: “Everyone is slightly foreign and everything is off just enough that I can’t catch my bearings. It doesn’t matter what I do or how I act, I can’t figure out how to fit in.” She does not know who is truly trustworthy and who is using her to gain access to her parents. Ultimately, Remedy finds peace not by trying to fit in and please others, but by being true and authentic to herself. Surely, a good reminder for all of us.

My favorite part of the book, however, is the romance. There are moments of impulsiveness (oh, yummy!), and sexual tension (oh, lordy!), but it is the small tender ones that hook me right in:

She flexed her fingers, then reached her hand across the inches that separated their bodies. Had she ever felt so vulnerable as she was right now, reaching for the man she cared about, wanting him to care enough about her that he was willing to keep trying? As the backs of her fingers brushed the side of his hand and he flinched, she closed her eyes. Please, Micah. Then his hand covered hers and held it tight. He threaded their fingers, locking their hands.

There is a great balance between fun and tenderness in this book. I enjoyed the heroine’s spunkiness, klutziness, and courage. Moreover, there is a pretty darn good grovel scene that puts the cherry on top of this read.

One Hot Summer is the first book in Melissa Culter's One and Only Texas series. This is also the first book I've read by this author and I am definitely looking forward to reading more from her. Ms. Culter brings us to the town of Dulcet, Texas, home of the Briscoe Ranch Resort where the stuff of wedding dreams are made possible to the rich and famous.

Remedy Lane was a wedding planner to the stars before a scandal caused her to lose her job in Hollywood. She thinks the Briscoe Ranch Resort is the perfect place to lick her wounds and rebuild her reputation so she can return home with her head held high. What she doesn't know is that NOTHING happens at the ranch without the fire marshall's approval and when she meets Micah for the first time, another type of spark ignites between the two.

Micah Garrity can't stand the entitlement that goes along with wealthy people. He knows trouble when he sees it, and Remedy Lane has trouble written all over her California tan. But the more Micah is around her, the more he comes to realize that (maybe) there is more to Remedy than meets the eye, and soon, he can't keep his hands off her.

One Hot Summer is a sweet, opposites-attract story. I LOVED that (while she was from money) Remedy was really relatable and sweet. Remedy and Micah brought out the best in each other. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in this series, One More Taste.

This was (mostly) delightful! Every aspect of this was full of win, though with some unfortunate lapses.

The main couple was strong and fit together very well. It's one of those relationships where each needs the other on multiple levels. Yeah, there's chemistry, but there's also both emotional and mental ties where they push each other to be better than they'd be alone. I particularly liked the contrast in their backgrounds and the prejudices each must confront as a result. Remedy has famous and rich parents and benefits from a well-funded trust fund. She's used to the limelight and can handle herself in elevated company. And even though she's kind and never stuck-up, she still has to overcome assumptions and attitudes from her upbringing that trip her up in the small Texas town she finds herself in. Micah is lower middle-class and has worked his way up to fire chief and marshal in the small community he loves. But he's spent his life battling the careless (sometimes destructively so) attitudes of the people attached to the luxury ranch in his area. His prejudices are stronger because they're reinforced with experience. But they're still prejudices as he has to admit as he gets to know Remedy.

Which sounds like this is a daytime movie episode and it really isn't. I loved the banter and genuine human connection both display as they battle their preconceived notions and learn to enjoy each other. And I liked the secondary characters and surrounding community. And I particularly liked that they talked to each other to work things out. There were a couple places mid-novel that could have been rocky if they hadn't taken the time to remind each other who they really are. Remedy sets the pattern here, as she choses in a key moment to return kindness for pain. I loved her response to Micah's overreaction and how it evened them out and built a foundation for working out future differences.

I can't give this the full five stars I wanted to because of some elements that seemed out of place. There are times where Cutler seems to default to a romance trope that doesn't quite fit the story she's telling. I was particularly surprised with a scene late in the story where Micah . I had such a crush on Micah that having him take a trip to crazy-town in a stereotypical way that just served to extend the book an extra chapter was disconcerting. And I never did warm to Remedy being such a klutz or how fate would conspire to ruin her plans in catastrophic ways. I know that was supposed to be funny (and some of it really was), but some of it just felt contrived to make Remedy feel bad and doubt herself and that wasn't so much fun.

So it's a solid four stars for the awesome couple, fun setting, and interesting plot. I hope the rest of the series lives up to this promising start. Sadly, Ami's review of the next seems to indicate otherwise, but hey, I can still hope...

A note about Steamy: There are three explicit sex scenes, but they aren't particularly long (well, not after the first one). So this is about the middle of my steam tolerance. They only do a middling job of moving the relationship along as the real increases in intimacy were always emotional—probably because both Remedy and Micah are confident in their sexuality and in expressing it. Which was fun, mind, but not really necessary for the relationship development.

The first installment in Melissa Cutler's newest series, One and Only Texas, One Hot Summer is a humor-filled, sexy novel. This opposites attract love story is an entertaining and captivating read that fans of contemporary romances are going to love.

After a scandal ruins her celebrity wedding planning career, Remedy Lane accepts a position as a special events manager at a luxury resort in Texas. Hoping to return to California once the publicity dies down and she redeems her tarnished career, Remedy immediately locks horns with local fire chief Micah Garrity. The swaggering cowboy is undeniably sexy but Remedy has no use for an Alpha male who seems determined to make her life miserable. The two share a sizzling hot attraction that is impossible to resist but will their misconceptions about one another and their personal baggage ruin their chance at happiness?

The daughter of two high profile actors, Remedy is used to being in the limelight but that does not mean she is comfortable being the center of attention. Although she loves and respects her parents, she never quite felt like she fit into their world and she is determined to prove she can make it without their help. Remedy is a fish out of water in the small rural town and as one of the executives from the resort, she is not exactly popular with many of the townspeople. She has a few preconceived notions about country life that color her perceptions of her new home, but once she witnesses the close-knit community in action, Remedy begins to appreciate her new home.

Micah is overbearing and a bit of a jerk to Remedy the first few times their paths cross. He takes his job as Fire Marshall very seriously and having witnessed firsthand the destruction fire wreaks, he refuses to cut the resort any slack. He has a strict no fraternizing policy when it comes to the executives of the resort, but his desire for Remedy quickly trumps his long held rule. Micah is tough and not always fair-minded but it is impossible not like him. Underneath his gruff exterior beats the heart of a hero who wants to rush in and save the people he cares about.

In spite of their rather tension-filled first few encounters, there is no denying the chemistry between Micah and Remedy. Remedy refuses to let him intimidate her and she is quite feisty as she throws a few well-aimed barbs his way. Micah has a fairly big chip on his shoulder where the resort, its executives and its guests are concerned, but he cannot help but admire Remedy's sassy attitude. With the sparks flying at every meeting, it is inevitable that Micah and Remedy will give in to their desire, but a permanent relationship between them is far from certain.

One Hot Summer is an outrageously funny and passionate romance. The storyline is engaging and innovative but it is the wonderful cast of quirky but appealing characters that makes it such an enjoyable read. This absolutely charming beginning to Melissa Cutler's heartwarming One and Only Texas series will leave readers impatiently awaiting the next installment.

I was so excited when I found out Ms. Cutler was coming out with another small-town contemporary read. I’ve really missed her writing in this genre. I was even more excited that this was in the same world as The Mistletoe Effect which was released late of 2014. Set in a small town setting, Ms. Cutler made One Hot Summer a sweet and sexy read.

Remedy Lane is the daughter of two famous celebrities and has been living the Hollywood lifestyle working as a wedding planner. After a bad scandal giving her a bad reputation in her field of work, Remedy took the job at The Briscoe Ranch Resort, which was called The Texas Hill Country Resort.

For now, she is trying to lay low and when the time comes and she has proven herself, she will return with her head held high. The problem is, she didn’t take account to falling in love with the quaint little town, the friends she’s made, and the Fire Chief who was determined to keep her job a living hell with his regulations.

Micah Garrity, the one, and only Fire Chief has taken on the responsibility to go above and beyond his duty to ensure this small town’s safety in his hands. And keeping The Briscoe Ranch follow protocols is at a high priority. You can say he’s a straight shooter when it comes to regulations but now that The Ranch has a new Event Coordinator, he will have a hell of a time keeping her on track.

I love Remedy. I thought she was “real” despite her rich upbringing and coming to Briscoe just made her even more of a better person. Micah, on the other hand, was the only person that is keeping things interesting and keeping her from bolting out of this small town. Who can blame her, he is the town’s most eligible Fire Chief after all. Everyone respected him and the women swoon at this presence.

Micah and Remedy made me laugh. Their annoyance to friends to lovers relationship was very sweet. The romance was simple and never over the top. It was a very mature relationship though there was a tiny bit of angst at the end but not enough to keep you from enjoying the book to the fullest. There was good humor, it was sexy, and it was plenty sweet. I'm happy Ms. Cutler decided to continue with this series. I'm excited about the next installment, One More Taste which will be about the feisty chef, Emily.

In One Hot Summer, Melissa Cutler has managed to bring two people running from their past together, to find a future and love worth fighting for.

Remedy Lane is the child of two Hollywood powerhouse celebrities. She’s accustomed to staying in the background, and being a wedding planner allows her to do that. Unfortunately, her last Hollywood celebrity wedding didn’t go so well and now the press and Hollywood itself have turned on her. Wanting to reestablish herself and return to Hollywood better than ever, she takes the event planner management position at Briscoe Ranch Resort which is well-known for being a wedding destination in the small Texas town of Dulcet. Unfortunately, Remedy sticks out like a sore thumb.

Micah Garrity is the Fire Marshal and Fire Chief of Ravel County. He takes his job very seriously and is a stickler for the rules. He has a strict no fraternizing with Briscoe Ranch executives policy and this also goes for the other members of the fire department as well. He has a hero complex the size of Texas, but he also love his family, friends, and the town like crazy. What he doesn’t love are rich, self-entitled, snobby people.

The love affair of Remedy and Micah was definitely not one of love at first sight. I immediately loved the “Alpha Bubba” that was Micah. He has his reasons for sticking to the rules, knowing rules are what keep people safe. It took me awhile to like Remedy. She’s a klutz and that’s what kept me reading the book although I viewed her as being arrogant, ungrateful, antagonizing, and just plain rude. In the end, I found her to be a sassy and smart woman with a good heart.

One Hot Summer was a story I had trouble getting into at first. But in the end, this is a story with surprises. It’s hilarious with runaway elephants, stalking pigeons, and a shotgun carrying Granny. But it’s also a story of friendship, family, love, loss, and redemption. I strongly recommend having tissue handy close to the end of the book.

Melissa Cutler's is a new-to-me author -- I see that she has written several books previously but I decided to try her latest one. Besides, it's the start of a new series and I figure if I like it, it will be easier for me to follow through.

Well, hell, I think I made the right choice because One Hot Summer is HIGHLY entertaining! I immediately LOVED Remedy, yep, just as soon as she maneuvered the golf cart to stop "a rampage" elephant named Gwyneth *LOL*. Yeah, someone who doesn't lose her cool over seeing an elephant running on golf course get my vote.

Micah was a fine specimen, but I admit that at times I got annoyed with him acting like a total jerk with his prejudice against rich people, which included his stereotyping of Remedy as a Hollywood princess... however, at the same time, I couldn't fully blame him because I may have similar views for rich people myself (*haha*).

The winning recipe for this book, for me, is the sizzling and believable chemistry between Remedy and Micah. Despite their different background -- Remedy is the only child of two famous Hollywood stars, while Micah is a Texan born and true -- they seemed to complement one another.

Remedy might run havoc at times because she could be a klutz but Micah was a perfect hero to save the day. Micah could be a little uptight but Remedy showed him that being a rich girl didn't mean sunshine and roses, and that made Micah more understanding. Oh, and not to mention their banters/bickers. They were SHARP and FUN.

All in all, I thought One Hot Summer was a delightful read -- especially with the swear-loving elephant, golf-cart crashes, stalking pigeons, and melons *grin*. I truly enjoyed it.

I loved One Hot Summer!

What a fun, well written & entertaining One Hot Summer turned out to be. My interest was captured from the first page and held until the end.

Loved the lead characters Remedy and Micah, they made me laugh, swoon, frustrated and swoon again.
For me these two opposites ticked all the boxes, from the first meeting the attraction & sexual tension was clearly visible to the reader and it never stopped.
I enjoyed watching their relationship develop and loved how intense & passionate they were.

The beginning of this was so cute and hot. It had the bones to be really good but it just sorta lost it.

First of all, no one could possibly be that clumsy to start that many fires and cause so much damage and then not even get in trouble because of it.

Second of all, a cowboy gentleman like Micah was supposed to be would never treat his women like that. Yes he’s sweet and caring and protective at times but then at others he’s making horrible assumptions about her that aren’t true, calling her names, and saying terrible things to her. But he never once says he’s sorry or actually apologizes. He says he was wrong but when things get tough he does it all over again.

Those were the two main things that ruined the potential cuteness and enjoyment of this book for me.

If I'm not mistaken, Melissa Culter is a fairly new author on the scene. I have to say this first book I've read by her, is not too shabby. I really got into it at first but further in the book started to drag for me and then picked back up near the ending.

When Remedy first comes to the small Texas town of Dulcet, she looks down her nose at the way things are there. She does it unknowingly really because she has convinced herself that she's giving this town and these people a chance. She needs to stay there long enough for the Zannity disaster to blow over in L.A. and she can go back home and resume her work as a wedding planner even though her parents are two of the biggest stars in the world. She wants to be independent and away from the limelight.

Which brings me to my next topic: How did Micah not know that she was semi-famous? Even if he didn't keep up with celebrity news, it's a small town and gossip is quite the past time in places like that. It just didn't make sense. For him to be so popular and doing a job in which he talks to townsfolk all the time, you would think word would've gotten back to him. So yeah, there were a few things that didn't connect which could have been the cause of my middle-of-the-book lull.

I was very proud of Remedy for standing up to her parents and snobby friends and making the decisions she wanted to make. She was a strong-willed character and fit in perfectly with that tough Texas mindset. Good thing her parents came around as well and understood their mistake. Remedy was also a magnet for disaster. I found myself laughing at her circumstances more than once. Especially when she had to deal with a run away elephant who likes swear words. Remedy had no trouble swearing for Gwyneth, that's for sure.

I enjoyed Micah's character throughout the entire book even though I wanted to slap him a time or two. It all boils down to the fact that he's a caring person and he had his own fear to realize and overcome.

This book takes the big city girl and places her in a small country town where she learns that sometimes love finds a way to sneak up on you in the most unexpected of places. Contemporary romance readers who like hot Texas summers with hot Texas firefighters may just enjoy this story.

This is the first book in a new series by Cutler and since I just finished it I have to say I really enjoyed it. It was different and I really loved the ideas that took place in this book.

Remedy is a wedding planner who fled to Texas after her job and reputation tanked in Hollywood after a scandal. She also happens to be the daughter of two very high profile actors. Remedy is just here to get her reputation back on track but what she didn't plan on was not only falling for the town but finding the man of her dreams.

Micah is the fire chief and takes his job very seriously but the new wedding planner is making him crazy in so many ways. He is determined just to have a fling with her just until she leaves but the more time they spend together the more caught up he becomes.

Remedy and Micah are total opposites but as the saying goes opposites attract and that is definitely the case with these two.
I really loved these two and how well they balanced each other out. While Remedy has a way of causing trouble ,Micah has a way of fixing it. Cutler included funny dialogue and situations that had me cracking up throughout the story. I couldn't decide if Remedy was one of the most unluckiest heroine I ever read about or not but I totally enjoyed her character. Not once did she come off as a rich spoiled brat considering who her parents were.

The beginning starts off with an elephant on the golf course. At first I thought I was reading this wrong but once the story got going I found myself laughing at the humor and the images that Cutler was describing. The plot was different and enjoyable and honestly I couldn't get enough.

I thought the book was well written and included the right amount of information to get this series off the ground. Cutler introduced so many new characters but each of them are memorable in their own way. I already zeroed in a few that I hope will have their own stories in the future.

The one thing that stood out for me the most in this book was the humor and honestly if the books to come are this funny I can't wait to read them! I'm looking forward to seeing where Cutler will take this series!

Loved this book. Not my usual read, but so worth it.

Remedy is a spitfire of a city girl. Fun, sassy and will stand up for herself. Even if she's a total klutz. She's hardworking and persistent. One of the things I like most about her is she took the hard road even though she didn't have to. A cushy life could've been had but instead she got sweaty and the Texas heat.

Micah is a good ol country boy. No, make that man. Proud of his self proclaimed redneck status. A man who will stand his ground and put others before himself. He's the town hero. The man harbors ill feeling toward those whom I call the rich and snobby. He's a good loyal man and protective of his town. Until his marbles get rolling when a snarky ray of California light comes into his life.

Anyone who knows me, knows that Cowboy reads are not my first choice. Every once in awhile a title catches me and I have to dive in. One Hot Summer was the perfect read at just the time I need it. Fun and feisty with a lot of snark and humor. The sexual tension was so fun, playful and intense. Remedy and Mason are each other's yin to yang. Both overflowing with personality. Their chemistry is hot and tests both their limits. Emotional and funny balanced with amazing passion that will leave you as hot as the Texas heat. One Hot Summer is my first Melissa Cutler read. I am very impressed.

An enjoyable start to a new romantic comedy series centered on a luxury resort known for extravagant weddings in a small east Texas town.

I think one of the things that make this small town rom com a little different is not everyone in the town likes the resort and the town doesn’t seem to be benefiting from it. That doesn’t mean there weren’t some great kooky secondary characters cause there were.

The two main characters are complete opposites but immediately chemistry. Remedy Lane grew up with two famous Hollywood parents. One thing she knew was she wanted nothing to do with being an actor. She became a wedding planner to the stars instead until a scandal shamed her out of California. She landed in Texas at the Briscoe Ranch and hopes it’s just a short stay until she can get her reputation back. Even though she was raised rich I appreciated that the author didn’t play her off as a spoiled debutant. She was instead a bit quirky and accident prone but with a very artistic mind to pulling off events. Micah Garrity is the small towns Fire Chief and doesn’t like the owner of the Brisco Ranch and is very diligent in his fire inspections before any event. He and Remedy butt heads as first but it’s not long before they give into their attraction..

As I stated this was an enjoyable read and I am looking forward the next in the series.

Remedy Lane is a wedding planner to the stars and a Hollywood celeb in her own right. But a scandal sends her packing and in need of a job to rebuild her reputation. The Briscoe Ranch Resort seems like a great place to do just that. Then, when she’s re-established herself, she can return to Hollywood with her head held high. Remedy soon learns that all plans have to pass Muster with fire marshal Micah Garrity, a sexy gun totin’, toothpick chewin’ cowboy.
Micah can’t stand rich people and their sense of entitlement so when he sees Remedy, he knows she’ll be trouble. Problem is, her crazy klutzy ways just bring out the hero in him and the more they’re together, the more the sparks fly. And that’s a fire no one wants to put out!
This is a sexy, sweet, funny sort of “fish out of water” story where both characters realize the life they could never imagine is suddenly the life they can’t imagine being without. This book has it all. Witty dialogue that will leave you chuckling out loud. Outrageous characters including a profanity loving elephant and stalking pigeons disguised as doves! And an intense, fast paced story line. This looks to be like the start to a great new series. I can’t wait to read more! A Book Obsessed Chicks Review Team Selection

I loved the story in this book. Even though you start reading, knowing that everything's going to be all right, I'm always amazed at the depth of character and quality of story that I read. This one is no exception to that rule.

Remedy Lane (I know right?) celebrity daughter comes to Texas to re-establish her career as a wedding planner after a disaster of a wedding in Los Angeles. She meets Micah Garrity, fire chief and fire inspector and the flames ignite between them. The story seems to be that no matter where you come from, love will always be your home.

Can't wait to read more from Melissa Cutler in the future!

This book has EVERYTHING going for it to be a 5-star read: a hilarious, klutzy, smart-mouthed heroine who finds herself in one accident after another, and a down to your bones, dang good ol’ cowboy who is hot Texan material through in through with spicy moves that can steam up a room better than a sauna. BUT, I felt like I was reaching and anticipating that high that I am always eager to read about: the dilemma, the groveling, the resolution, the profession of love, the happily ever after. And I was disappointed! Why? Because he hurt her so much in a span of less than 5 minutes, then did a whole 180 degree in the next few minutes. And she just accepted it. Not much groveling to my taste. So even if this hurts me, because I was so sure this was a 5 star read, I’m bumping it down to 4.5 stars because I NEED THAT HIGH! I need the grovel and the panic, the heartache and the loss. And the fight coming from the hero, especially this hero who has, surprise surprise, the biggest hero complex I’ve ever read about.

It was almost perfect, but it’s not. But what the heck, it’s still uber enjoyable! Remedy Lane had a disastrous event in Hollywood, so she lied low for awhile in Dulcet, Texas, where she was hired as an event planner by the famously grouchy Ty Roscoe. But then she butted head to head with the Chief of Fire Inspector, moves with a swagger, Micah. And the chemistry, let me tell you. Palpable and strong and plain electric! Again, it pains me but a girl has to be honest.

4.5 stars! ✨🤪

This was a very fun book that had me hooked from the first few pages. It's an opposites attract, city girl/country boy story full of fun, chemistry, and emotion. Remedy is a California girl, daughter of two famous Hollywood personalities, who had a terrific job as an event planner until a high-profile wedding went disastrously wrong. Now she's working at a Texas resort as their event coordinator, just until she can repair her reputation and go back home. The only fly in the ointment is fire chief/marshal Micah Garrity.

Micah is a born and bred Texan who has lived in Dulcet all his life. He takes his job very seriously. He is a stickler for the rules, and his no fraternization policy between the fire department and resort staff is designed to keep anyone from blurring the lines. Protecting his family, friends, and town is a big part of who he is.

I liked the development of the relationship between Remedy and Micah. Though they butt heads from the start, with each of them having preconceived ideas that need to be overcome. Remedy sees Micah as a small-town redneck, drunk on his power to make things difficult for the resort. Micah sees Remedy as a Hollywood princess, with a sense of entitlement and no idea what real life is like. But underneath the antagonism is an attraction that neither wants to admit and makes it impossible for them to stay away from each other. I loved seeing Remedy stand up to Micah calling him out on his attitude toward her when he doesn't know the real her. At the same time, Micah gets her to really look at the town and people of Dulcet. I loved seeing Remedy get involved in that "townie" wedding and what an eye-opening experience it was for her. The more time that Micah and Remedy spent together, the closer they grew. Through her relationship with Micah, Remedy began to feel at home in Dulcet and think about what it would be like to stay. Micah was a little freaked out by the frequency with which he hoped that Remedy wouldn't leave.

There were problems to overcome. Remedy's unfortunate ability to be a magnet for disaster put her at the center of several conflicts between Micah and the resort. With Micah's overworked feelings of responsibility, these incidents added more bricks to the load of guilt that he already carries. Remedy's boss is a manipulative man who threatens Micah's job and wants to use Remedy's family connections to boost the resort. Things take a real downward spiral when Hollywood friends of Remedy's want her to plan their wedding, and their attitudes are over-the-top obnoxious. Add in the surprise appearance of Remedy's parents, and she's faced with the realization that she has changed. I ached for Remedy with the way that her parents treated her. I liked the way that Micah was so supportive of Remedy through most of the conflict, but then he blew it with a really boneheaded move. His insecurities and fears bubbled up and caused him to be needlessly cruel to Remedy. After getting chewed out by his friend Xavier, Micah redeemed himself with an excellent and romantic groveling scene. The ending was fantastic and an excellent way to bring the story full circle.

I loved the humor in this book. I was hooked from the start by the rampaging elephant with a thing for golf. There were homing pigeons pretending to be doves, who also appeared to stalk Remedy. I loved Granny June and her matchmaking attempts, and her feisty spirit. I laughed out loud at Micah's family's Power Wheels race and Remedy's part in it. Even the disasters that stalked Remedy had their laugh-out-loud moments.

My Review:
The premise of this book is pretty fun. Micah is the fire marshal and he's very strict when it comes to the Briscoe Ranch. They already caused one devastating fire 24 years before. He won't let that happen again.

Remedy is the new event planner with no real idea of the quagmire she is walking into at the Briscoe Ranch. There's very much a feeling of a separation between the elitist's at the Ranch and the working class of the town. This is not a town all working toward the best for the community as a whole. (Note: this is the first in this series, but it's not the first book to feature this setting and I don't remember that feeling from the other books.)

The book starts off showing just how in over her head Remedy really is as she's trying to wrangle a runaway elephant. There are a lot of cute little scenes like that. (I loved the pigeon's that home on her throughout the book.) I'm from Texas...just a couple of hours north of where the book takes place and I enjoyed the play on this liberal California girl transplanted into the conservative backwoods of Texas where men like their guns and their Republicans. (and, yes, that ideal is pervasive in my part of Texas, too.)

I never did really understand fully why things are so combative between Micah and the owner of the Briscoe Ranch. I understand about the fire with Micah, but I didn't understand why Tyson (? I'm not sure if I got his name right) was such a jerk about it. There is definitely an extreme divisive feeling between the town and the ranch which just didn't feel quite right, because this is still a small community so those two worlds would be very mixed especially as long as the ranch has been there...Alex and Xander (? again, not sure on the name which I really am bad at) are a prime example of this.

Overall, I enjoyed the story though. I love that part of Texas on the Frio River so the visuals were amazing. (My favorite scene was the initial party on the river and Alpha Bubba...too fun.) I also really loved the chemistry between Micah and Remedy. There are several side-characters which were interesting. I'd love to delve more into Alex and Xander's relationship. Also, Emily and Litzy were both great fun...even when they made Remedy's job harder. I even liked the story of who Remedy's parents are although I thought her inability to tell them no didn't fit at all with the rest of her personality. The fact is she's a wedding planner...you have to have a strong personality to do that job and that doesn't allow for being a pushover for anyone...certainly not her parents or their friends.

Emily is the heroine in the next book. She's the chef at the ranch and another gal with a strong personality. I'm looking forward to it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

One Hot Summer started out as a great engaging, flirty, romantic, at times very steamy read. I loved Remedy, the feisty, sassy heroine and the witty banter/sizzling chemistry between her and Micah, the sexy, handsome, good guy, toothpick chewing fire chief hero. Unfortunately, the momentum did not last. About 60% into, I realized I was still waiting for something significant to happen outside the overly done conversations regarding the worry these two lovebirds had about being in a relationship. So much so, I found myself getting really annoyed by the random, not very interesting/at times strange filler content being inserted in its place.

I found myself using my Kindle fast-forwarding forefinger way too much in the second half. That is never a good sign, my fellow romance book-loving friends. Finally, there was a dramatic, life-threatening situation that at least had me hopeful the ending would be worth it. Unfortunately, the author chose to take this good guy hero and turn him into a hurtful, clueless jerk by letting him lash out at Remedy. Then, to make matters worse, Remedy immediately forgave him after a few seconds of groveling. It was the final nail in the coffin. Between starting engaging, then extremely boring with a little bizarre thrown in, it became dramatic, with my least favorite ending…a heroine too quick to forgive after having her heart stomped on. I’m left shaking my head because it could have been a great story.

Title: One Hot Summer, Series: One and Only Texas (Book 1), Author: Melissa Cutler, Pages: 384, stand-alone, HEA, no cheating, no love triangle, no OW/OM drama, VERY steamy scenes, great guy hero, sassy/witty but clutzy heroine, whose parents are famous actors.

One Hot Summer by Melissa Cutler will heat readers up faster than a match tossed on a bale of hay. Inside the hot, sexy, and addictive read, readers will be intrigued from the beginning. The characters may come from opposite worlds and may differ in how they handle things but their personalities, passion, and desire burn hotter than coals. It's hot summer and one determined wedding planner keeps casuing one problem after another. It's no wonder both her and the fire chief can't get along. The sexual attraction is so strong it's funny watching the cheif wrestle with his lust for the woman determined to be his enemy...how he keeps his hands off until she let's him...shows how much of a real man and gentleman the cheif is. Women would love a town hero like him to help them out half as much as does for Remedy...only time will tell what's in store for these two heated individuals. Stubborn, sassy, bossy, and strong- Remedy and Micah make for one hell of a read.

Melissa Cutler is definitely a writer to watch for...her characters will instantly drag readers deep into the fast-paced plot. One Hot Summer is a well-written contemporary romance that is hard to stop reading. I loved this story. A cowboy fire chief and a wedding planner are two characters that will tug at the hearts of many readers. Hot, messy, and complicate is exactly what a real romance is like and Melissa Cutler has perfectly portrayed that inside this novel. Overall, I highly recommend this title to readers everywhere.

Trust fund wedding planner meets antimoney firefighter.
Remedy has just survived a major scandal in Hollywood so in order to help rebuild her career she relocates to a "quaint" town in Texas, now as the head wedding designer of a hotel she has everything she was hoping for. That is until she meets Micah, the fire-safety stickler of her new town, and the firefighter who holds a major grudge against the hotel owners.
Micah just wants to continue his life as a firefighter, receiving goodies from his secret admirer. But when he first meets Remedy life gets set on fire (more than once). Micah has a savior complex in which he is always there to help bail others out, and Remedy, well, she is her very own brand of klutz, they are either a match made in heaven or the worse thing to ever happen to this town.
I absolutely loved the writing style as well as the characters. You were able to see the changes as they occurred which really made this book a spectacular read.
P.S there is sex scenes in this book but they are not excessive or disgusting in their detail.
This was an artfully written book that you won't want to miss out on.

I really enjoyed this book which is the beginning to what should be a fun new series. Set in small town Texas, there is a cast of characters that were hilarious with history that can only be found in small towns. Remedy Lane is new to Dulcet having fled Hollywood after a wedding scandal implodes her event planning career. She is working at the famous Briscoe Ranch as the wedding planner. She's funny, determined, and just a bit scary in a golf cart. When the Ranch's anything goes philosophy has her butting heads with the town fire cheif, Micah "Alpha Bubba" Garrity, she knows this job will be nothing but trouble.

Micah knows the new wedding planner is all kinds of wrong for him but he can't seem to get her out of his head. They fight over everything and he has to deal with one disaster after another because of her. Yet the sparks are still flying. Will he come out of this without being burned???

This is such a fun story and I can't wait for the next one. I highly recommend this book for everyone.

Welcome to Dulcet Texas, home of the famous Briscoe Ranch Resort where everything from elephants to pigeons can make your wedding dreams come true. In Melissa Cutler’s One Hot Summer, we are introduced to Remedy Lane the latest wedding planner at the Briscoe Ranch. Remedy is trying to repair her shattered career after a wedding debacle that played out across the media. Micah Garrity is the Ravel County Fire Chief, and he is Remedy’s biggest nemesis because he is also the fire marshal who can make or break a wedding. Micah soon discovers that there is more to Remedy than he first thought and he begins to let the wall that he has erected around his heart dissipate. Remedy finds comfort in Micah’s arms and his life for the first time, and she allows herself to believe in a happily ever after. Ms. Cutler has created a story that will make you laugh, but it will also warm your soul. I was given this book to read by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Melissa Cutler does cowboys like no other writer. I loved her romantic suspense stuff, but it is with cowboys that she really shines. One Hot Summer takes us back to the Briscoe Ranch, home of the Mistletoe Effect. At its heart, this book is about finding your own way. We are all aliens at one point or another, the key is figuring out how to fit into your surroundings while still finding a way to shine. Remedy does that and more as the new wedding planner. Her klutzy tendencies bring chaos to Micah’s structured world. Together they bring out the best in each other and those around them. There were moments I laughed out loud – the opening scene with the elephant is one of the best I’ve read in a very long time. This book definitely makes my keeper shelf. Fall is too long to wait for the next installment.

This is the first in a new series and also the first time I have read this author. I have to say at first I wasn't really sure I liked the characters but it didn't take long before that changed. Remedy and Micah are about as different as two people can be but yet their chemistry is off the charts. No one expects Remedy to stay in Texas, everyone including Remedy thinks she will head back to LA once she re-establishes her career. However, it seems that Texas may have just what she needs most. Now she needs to convince everyone that she is staying. I really enjoyed this romance from Melissa Cutler and would love to see where she takes this series next. Plenty of heart, heat and comedy all rolled up in one book!

I loved everything about this book. I laughed from start to finish and I also cried. Remedy Lane is hilarious and witty and a menus in a golf cart. Micah Garrity "Alpha Bubba" is the town hero and the Fire Cheif/Fire Marshal. He takes his job to heart and will protect the folks of Ravel County Texas until his last breath. Remedy and Micah's chemistry is off the charts and they but heads every time they are in the same room. They just can't seem to stay away from each other. I loved the first book and I can't wait for the next one.
