Amazing

Another tale well told. Good blend of reality and superstition. Strong characters bent on getting to the truth of what was occurring, in spite of the disbelief of everyone else.

Finally he finds solace and acceptance living with a family in New Orleans of misbegotten. One evening returning home only to discover this loving group had been murdered. While he was with the circus it was the second best time of his life. He was making descent money, had a clean place to live and he decorated the way he wanted, nice clothes and shoes. But all this came to and end when the brother of the owner and a scrupulous woman were going to kill the owner Wiilliam Bantam so that they could become the owners reap and financial rewards. Kenny heard them planning the demise by poisoning the owner. So moving on, those two attempted to murder Lenny by locking him in the lion's cage, not good. He was rescued and told to get out by another worker in the circus, told not to take any of his possessions but run for his life which he did. He barely had enough money and only the clothes on his back. He signed up with a wagon train going to Oregon. The DONNER PARTY..does the name sound familiar....well Lenny joins the wagon train and they get snowed in the mountain pass..no food only THEMSELVES and the snow. Well CANNIBALISM was on the menu. Kenny hid in the snowy forest eating human flesh and supplemented with the fish he caught. He escaped Into the wilds only to be attacked by a WENDGO..who bite him and he eventually morphs into an eight foot man eater..here we go.. now there are two of THESE giants killing upsetting the countryside. The Chance Wilcox all grown up and married is ambushed by these monsters. This adventure is SCI-FI MERGING WITH A WESTERN. What you may think will happen doesn't. Your not left hanging about the ending but it's SCI-FI with a twist. Every page holds action and mysteries. So folks don't forget your SILVER CHARMS AND GARLIC..

Snipes? Really??

I'm a big fan of the Deadman Series and have made strong recommendations to several friends. In fact, I think books 1 and 3 were among the best that's out there and absolutely worthy of the big screen. However...

As the series advanced to include telephones and automobiles it took a step back, and while the writing was good in books 4 and 5, they were not quite as good as the earlier books.

When I started reading Hearts of Ice I was VERY pleased with the quality of writing. The author did an excellent job with the leading character (Lenny) and his story. This lasted about halfway through the book.

Whereas Dead Man started as an old west series, turned into a new(?) west series, it now became a story about hunting snipes. Rather than historical fiction, it became sci-fi western. Boo.

If this were part of a ghost series (or a stand alone book) I would have no complaints, but also wouldn't have bought it.

The story itself is worthy of 4 or 5 stars. But if you're a fan or the earlier books and want more old west, you may be a little let down.
