A Young black man reaching maturity in the early 1950's, Andrew Young made decisions that led him to the ministry and on to the forefront of the civil rights movement of the early 1960's. He marched with Martin Luther King, Jr. through the streets of Birmingham and Selma, and he was with King when King was assassinated. Young's continuing work as a leader in the civil rights movement has enabled him to serve as a U.S. congressman, ambassador to the United Nations, and mayor of Atlanta.
American civil rights leader and politician Andrew Jackson Young, Junior, served as executive director of the southern Christian leadership conference from 1964 to 1970, later as ambassador of United States to the United Nations from 1977 to 1979, and as mayor of Atlanta from 1982 to 1990.
This diplomat, and activist began his career as a pastor in an early movement as a close confidant to Martin Luther King Jr.
I have a signed copy of the book since I worked with Ambassador Young during the Atlanta Olympic Games. At the time, I was Director of Public Relations at UNICEF USA and Andrew Young helped the organization with a global effort called Olympic Aid Atlanta that raised some $12.5 million for children in war. It was a very powerful experience. I loved reading his personal history and to learn how faith carried him through the tough moments. When my first husband got diagnosed with brain cancer in 1999, I turned to the book often, reflecting upon the prayer, "A Way Out of No Way."
This is an inside life view of a great leader. Andrew Young shares his inner most conversations with God and MLK. I have bought this book for others to read. Highly recommend if you can find it in print.
This book is a spiritual (Christian) autobiography of Andrew Young. The book emphasizes his Christian roots and his spiritual journey as a Christian. Andrew Young liberally quotes from the Bible to show how God has used the Bible to guide his life.
