The Psyching

Rate this book
Jack Lawson's job as the psychiatric resident at the Overlook Hospital is perfect for him. As the overnight resident on call at the psychiatric ward, he'll have plenty of time to spend teaching his medical students, Danni and Wendy, and working on his writing. And most importantly, sleeping.

But as the evening wears on, the idyllic psych ward feels ever more boring… and also more sinister. And the only one to notice the strange and terrible forces gathering around the Overlook Hospital is Danni Gerard, a uniquely gifted 24-year-old medical student.

#1 New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Publisher's Weekly, and Amazon Charts bestselling author Freida McFadden is a practicing physician specializing in brain injury who has penned multiple Kindle bestselling psychological thrillers and medical humor novels. She lives with her family and possessed cat in a centuries-old three-story home overlooking the ocean, with staircases that creak and moan with each step, and nobody could hear you if you scream. Unless you scream really loudly, maybe.

I was just too obsessed to leave this one unturned. Took some time finding it. Not as bad as I was made to believe. Think it could be one of those that need a rewrite, because it has loads of potential.

So this was a short novella that I snatched up on my kindle...
I read it in less than an hour, and it was great !

There's a lock-down in the psych ward and at the last one - 10 years ago - murders happened.

Will it happen this year ?

The end is superb !

I very much enjoyed this story - would absolutely recommend, if you don't have much time but still want to read something awesome !

Ummm i feel like this was the base for her other novel “Ward D”😭 she just extended this story and added more details and published Ward D.
ANYWAY this was a waste of 20 minutes

Gostei, curtinha e com humor quase nonsense.
Fica muito claro que foi o ponto de partida para Ala D (Ward D) até tem o Spiderman (depois Spider Dan), o final é abrupto tal como esperava.

I’m assuming this short story was supposed to be humorous but really it was just a a rip off of The Shining, like almost completely. I mean she does mention The Shining, “”I always reverse words in my mind,” Danni said. “Ever since I read The Shining.””

Similarities:

The Psyching:
- Danni
- Jack Lawson
- Overlook Hospital
- Wendy
- Room 237
- Dr Sadler
- Twins
- Phone Lines Down
- “Doc”
- “Lick” = “Kill

The Shining:
- Danny
- Jack Torrance
- Overlook Hotel
- Wendy
- Room 237
- Dick Hallorann
- Twins
- Phone Lines Down
- “Doc”
- “Redrum” = “Murder”

1½/5⭐️ Dit was echt vaag. Ik deed er voor zo'n kort verhaal ook best lang over. Maar dat kan ook komen doordat er een ongeluk was gebeurt op de weg en ik daar natuurlijk even naar moest kijken. Oh well..

I wanted so badly to leave no Freida book unturned but this one turned out to be practically a draft of Ward D HAHAHAHA and therefore I will not give it a rating! I will likely give Ward D another go in a bit :]

I felt like I was reading Ward D. This would've been cool to make this short a much longer version for part two of Ward D. Fast read, gets very interesting but, I needed more. I hated that it ended so quickly.

I hate the mystification and horror/thriller portrayal of psychiatric wards, as if patients and staff are some kind of freaks. Doesn’t it only reinforce the stigma surrounding mental health and seeking treatment?
