When a hot guy with blazing blue eyes and a sexy smirk saves my ass and covers up my sins, I know I'm screwed. He's poor, and is probably morally deprived like every other ass I've attracted recently.
I admit it. I'm a moron magnet. If the guy's a dick, then he sweeps me off my feet and promptly stabs me in the back. Billionaires are all the same. I've fallen for loser after loser, which earned me the classy reputation of being easy. I'm easy on the eyes, easy to bed.
But no one knows the truth, no one knows the events that forced me into the ledge of that elite NYC hotel--no one except that strapped, hot waiter.
Now I have to figure out if he's an ally or an enemy. I need a friend, a real one, and not some jerk who's after my money or my name. But If I make the wrong choice, it'll destroy me.
The ledge high above the city was only the beginning. No one can help me now. I'm on my own.

This one started out a bit slow for me so I put it a side for a little while. Picked it back up yesterday and about 30% in I started to get well into the story. Great story and great characters. I would have wanted to see a bit more closure for a certain matter in the end but it didn´t affect the enjoyment of the book for me.
All I can say right now, is this duo writes so beautifully together.. I'm still writing my review, but my emotions totally took over during this story!! Stay tuned...
Merged review:
Angry tears. Sad tears. Joyful tears. Who knew one could feel so much in reading a book? .. Words seemed to fail me after reading this book. This story was written by 2 authors I have so much respect for, I was scared my review could not do justice to this absolutely beautiful tale. Kienna Delacroix is from a wealthy household, used and abused by everyone in her life. Graham Parker lost his parents young in life and works hard for everything he has in life. When these two people meet, worlds collide and a wonderful friendship ensues. All "Kia" has ever known is she's unwanted and trash. Graham "Cracker" has dealt with his own personal guilt since he was a teenager. As they grow closer, they realize this could be their chance to mend each others soul. I went through 2 boxes of Kleenex and a few bottles of wine to deal with my own emotions. I loved it!! Such a touching and hopeful novel. HM Ward has been so successful as an author and this story with co writer Melanie Bruissere is an exceptional joining of a beautiful writing team.. I can't wait to read more from both authors.. Thank you so much ladies for my favorite story ever.
I feel like this is the classic case of "it's not you, it's me". When I got this book, I looked at the reviews and albeit there weren't many, a vast majority of them were five stars. It sounded promising, heart wrenching, and between the title and the cover I was preparing myself for an angst fest. At this point, I'm a little discouraged.
The synopsis intrigued me, as did the first few chapters. As the story progressed, it became farther and farther away from what I expected. I got very little sense of what the synopsis promised while actually reading. There was little to no family drama and we didn't learn any of the secrets of dealings in that matter. Most of the story was focused around... I'm not exactly sure to be honest. Kia, I guess? Her relationship with Graham and dealing with a whole bunch of 'big' secrets.
There were supposably a lot of big, life shattering secrets throughout the novel, but they just seemed to drag on and on unnecessarily. Sure everything is revealed at the end, but it's all blown way out of proportion because they had to hide it for so long, it turned into a much bigger deal than it should have been. I get that everyone carries the scars from their past differently, but this was a little over the top in my opinion. There were other secrets hinted to at the beginning which I may have actually been much more curious to hear about. They didn't even relate to the main characters relationship, more so with the heroine and her family.
The relationship between Kai and Graham fell flat for me. Thinking back, of course they spent time together, but nothing stands out as monumental or overtly important. They started out as 'friends', but we're basically dating and just didn't want to admit it. I feel like there were some huge gaps in their relationship. For a large part of their time together, the reader is just told that they are happy and have coffee every afternoon, and that this pattern lasts for a few weeks. Okay? That's cool... I really wish we could've gotten a deeper look into the beginning of their relationship. As they grew together, as a couple and overcame these 'earth shattering, life altering' secrets. *On a side note, I'm probably being dramatic but there was so much of a build up to what they were hiding, I expected more*
Like I said, I was quite intrigued with how the first few chapters went. I was excited to see what would happen, how things would turn out, how Kai would learn to grow some lady balls and do something to change her situation. But then the entire focus started to shift and I got very little of this. Every twist I found predictable, to the point that I was guessing a few chapters in advance. From before halfway through, it went something like this: 1. Everyone is lovey dovey 2. Oh no! We find out a secret and have a meltdown! 3. Fall out. I hate them. They lied to me. How could they?! 4. Grand gesture 5. Everyone is happy. Now let's make rash decisions and all of a sudden act like adults.
I will say this; Graham did act like an adult for the most part. I liked his character's actions; they were consistent and at times I found myself saying awww because of something he said or did. But between the two of them, I just wanted more.
Personally, I found this story to have very little angst. It was predictable and sort of over done. I think it could've been a lot more successful if it was longer and we had a lot more time developing certain areas. It was a very quick read, only 250 pages or so. I had high hopes for this one, but I guess I need to take the life old adage into consideration and not judge a book based on it's cover. Who am I kidding? I'm still going to. Even the title; Last Heartbreak. I have no idea where this comes into play. There was no talk of previous relationships or any evidence that the characters had ever had their hearts broken in the past. I guess it could talk about the 'heartbreak' here, (damn that almost instalove strikes again)... I just don't get it.
Some people seem to be loving this, so maybe I'm just being overly critical and snobby. I guess we'll never know. If someone else reads this, tell me - then we can decide if I just need to go find a pair of happy pants and get over myself. Until then, I'm moving on.
LAST HEARTBREAK was gut wrenchingly good. Some books leave a mark after reading and Last Heartbreak did for me. I have total book hangover, because it was all the feels kind of book. This book will leave you raw at times and yet will warm the heart. I loved how H.M. Ward and Melanie Bussiere seamlessly wrote this heartbreaking, yet heartwarming love story. What I found touching was the idea that despite living under the horrible constraints of family, one can find love in the most unsuspecting places. Last Heartbreak deals with some heavy hitting themes, but don’t let that stop you because with the more serious undertones of the book, Ward and Bussiere bring in the light. I found myself in tears one moment and snort laughing in others. It’s the perfect balance. I absolutely loved how Graham isn’t the usual protagonist usually found in contemporary romance novels. He isn’t a billionaire but an extraordinary individual who despite his past, can see past Kia’s “social” status and actually see her and love her for just that. You will find yourself rooting for this very sexy, nerdy guy in a big way. Totally Team Graham Cracker!! I absolutely loved Kianna, I found myself wanting to wrap my arms around her. Kia’s story is gutting, and despite everything you will love her strength and determination. I cannot gush enough about how wonderfully written this book was. And this is an absolute wonderful debut to new author Melanie Bussiere!
Incredibly moving, funny, sexy and tackling deeper everyday problems, Last Heartbreak will not disappoint you. Kia needs help and Graham needs Kia. Can they form a friendly bond? Will he be the cause of her salvation or destruction? Can Kia's larger than life personality come out to play with Graham? Or is she destined to be alone and left wanting?
Hysterical laugh out loud moments are intertwined with serious undertones of very private family secrets and personal struggles. Graham and Kia are both survivors but their choices, and how they move forward, are so very different. Will they have a chance to love?
The collaboration to write this book is greatly appreciated. H.M. Ward and Melanie Bussièr created a masterpiece of a romance novel. The topics in the storyline are sensitive, emotions are raw, the truth will hurt. As an avid reader, it's rare when you can close your eyes and feel the character's pain, see the scenery through wonderful descriptions or want to grab hold the characters and not let go.
Congratulations to Melanie on officially being an author. There will be no hiding in the corner! An absolute must read!
Amazing story. I love a book that surprised me and his one did many times over. I have read many of HM Ward's books but this is the first time for Melanie Bussière and they both knocked it out of the park. Lots of smiles and tears in this love story. It is a stand alone story that lightly brushes against some of HM Wards previous work but is in no way directly connected. Very emotional. A real page turner I had a hard time putting it down.
Last Heartbreak left an imprint on my heart. This book, co written by HM Ward and Melanie Bussiere, tackled real life issues with the greatest care and respect. Intense situations propel off the very first page and intertwine with flirty witty banter, combustible chemistry and gut wrenching heartache. Last Heartbreak is guaranteed to leave you with book hangover.
I read this book in its entirety last night! OMG, its awesome!! Had me hooked from the first sentence until the last. Definitely a nail-biter and I love the ending!!
Last Heartbreak is a wonderful emotive story that at times will have you laughing out loud, and other times have you grabbing for the tissues. It's a beautiful story, written collaboratively by H.M. Ward and Melanie Bussiere. This is Melanie's debut novel and if this story is anything to go by, I can see a very bright future for Melanie and eagerly await for more in the future. H. M. Ward, brilliant as always.
This is the story of two young (compared to me) people, who have both lived through their own personal tragedies.
Kia is the daughter of parents whose only concern is their standing in the world of the old money. Kia's father is an abuser who will do anything and use his daughter in anyway to get what he wants to stay on top of the old money social ladder. Her mother is not any better, she's an enabler who will not defend her daughter. At times throughout this book I wonder why they had a child in the first place. They are disgustingly horrible people that deserve each other and not a beautiful daughter like Kia.
Graham is a nerd. A good looking nerd. He has wonderful supportive friends and a special little 9 year old in his like. He has had to grow up way too early but has done so beautifully. He works in the hotel that Kia lives in as well as a crisis call centre.
They first officially meet at an event that Kia is not coping with very well. Graham helps her and it's the beginning of their very special friendship.
This story has highs and some lows with plenty of secrets from both of them. If your a H.M. Ward fan, there is a Ferro and Trystan Scott cameo within this story as well.
I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this book to anyone. If you like a heartfelt story that makes you feel with everything within you, then read this story, you wont be disappointed. I loved it.
Last Heartbreak from H.M. Ward was a great 5 star read.
What an emotional read. You get a mixture of romance, humor, and raw emotional and physical abuse.
We meet Kia and Graham in this great read.
Kia has been emotionally and physically abused by her father for years. He has done nothing but use her to elevate his status in life and business. One night when she thinks she can’t take anymore she meets Graham. He is her life saver, literally.
As Graham and Kia get to know each other they decide to hide their friendship. The last thing Kia wants is her father ruining Graham. They start to develop a very close friendship that eventually moves over to romance. So happy for them. We find that they both have secrets that they are keeping. What will happen when the secrets come out? Will they get a HEA?
There are a few twists and surprises that will answer some questions. The secondary characters added a great element to the story. You will experience several emotions while reading, along with a serious topic of depression and suicide. We do get to see a HEA however I wouldn’t mind seeing more from these two (fingers crossed). Thank you H.M. Ward and Melanie Bussiere for a great read, Loved it.

HM Ward has done it again. This book made me swoon for Graham. He is the perfect guy. Funny, sweet, sensitive, a dad to his sister. And he loves Kia with everything he has. Kia has the perfect life on paper. She is from a rich family and does all of the correct social things. What people don't see is the depression and abuse she suffers from. Graham was her knight in shining armor when she needed him the most. The only person in her world to get Kia to act like herself and not a version of what her parents have created. Graham doesn't come from money, but he would give everything to Kia that he could. When Kia realizes she will lose Graham, she decides it's time to make the changes in her life and make herself whole, but adding the two people who mean the world to her.
Such a great story of someone battling depression and winning. And of course a hot guy who couldn't be more perfect. What more can you ask for. Loved this story. There is no cliffhanger either.
Last Heartbreak will most certainly break your heart, but rest a sure that with all the up lifting funny heart warming moments it will be repaired. Kieanna is the sole heir to one of the riches families there is anything she could want she can have but what she has she most certainly does not and what about what she needs? There are things she wants but those choices are out of her hands, and into her completely controlling and heavy hand parental units. When Kieanna cant take anymore and is about to just give up a nerd in shining armor comes to her rescue. Graham the smoking hottness in a graphic tee or hotel staff uniform depends if he's on or not swoops in and becomes the life jacket Kieanna was so desperately in need of. Emotinal beyond anything else.
What a GREAT debut for Author Melanie Bussiere. Co-Author of this amazing book with another fav, H. M. Ward. There's a sneak peak at a certain Ferro fella you won't want to miss! What a dramatic, heart felt, gut wrenching look into difficult topics that plaque many people (families) regardless of age, sex, creed, religion or social standing.
Our leading lady leads a privileged life among the wealthy but at what cost? She needs a knight in shining armor! Can a sweet unassuming superhero wearing hotel waiter rescue her or will she have to choose the family name?
Powerful. Emotional. Personal. Revealing. What an amazing first book! I cannot wait to see what else comes from this new author!
A heartbreaking, shocking, captivating and engaging love story written by two amazing authors H.M. Ward and Melanie Bussiere. "ARC Review" After Kienna receives an abusive confrontation with her father because she did not follow his instructions and whore herself correctly, she goes on her penthouse's roof's ledge for a brief respite. Not meaning to lose her balance, Kienna starts to fall, the waiter, Graham, pulls her to safety. Kienna is in desperate need of a friend and finds herself drawn to Graham. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, awesome story of Kienna and Graham's love!
What can I say about this stand alone novel other than its amazing! The story line had me hooked from the start, wanting to find out what would happen next. Kienna's life has been miserable and I instantly felt for her. When Graham and Lori enter her life everything changes and I found myself unable to put the book down. It's extremely well written and the two authors have worked well together to create an amazing story full of love, loss, heartbreak, joy and hope. I found myself laughing at some of the things Lori came out with and thought HM Ward shone through her character. Overall, I would highly recommend this book.
This book hooked me from the beginning. I did not want to put it down. Kia was born into a life of wealth but when there is no love is it really worth living? Kia has learned to live day to day and get through it and it did not destroy her, instead it made her stronger. This is an inspirational book on not giving up. No matter what life throws at you, your life is worth something and do what you have to do to survive and one day actually live! Melanie Bussiere if it did not state that this was your debut novel I would not believe it. I can not wait to see what the future holds for you and H.M. Ward once again you out did herself.
I loved it! This book was funny and heart wrenching. Graham and Kienna have a lot of chemistry. At times I wanted to just smack the junk out of Kienna's parents! I mean what idiots! I can't believe Kienna followed the rules set by her parents. I was very glad that she came into her own and became her own person. With the help of Graham, Kienna realized she deserved some type of a life outside of her parents demanding requests. Excellent storyline, it wasn't what I was expecting.
A fantastic story that takes you from total desperate desolation to cathartic laughter. Take a rich friendless girl, Kia, a manipulated pawn in her parents drive for further riches and power. A cash poor, very nerdy guy, Graham, with a heart of gold and enough guilt to sink a ship, enters Kia's life. A feisty, nine year old girl, who is going to marry Trystan Scott ! They all need help and love. The question is, are they strong enough to save each other ?
This story is different from the others I have read from Ms. Ward but I really liked this one too. I love that she did mention a couple of characters from the other books. I really liked Graham and Kienna and I was hoping everything would turn out for them. This book was hard to put down. I had to stay up late to finish because I had to know what was going to happen. I was gifted a copy for a fair and honest review.
Amazing!! This book has a great storyline that captivates you from the beginning to end. Graham and Kienna both have a past filled with personal tragedies and are unwilling to share their secrets at the beginning of their friendship. Eventually their secrets come to light and Kienna has to find it in her heart to forgive Graham and find the courage to stand up for herself. Kienna and Graham finally get their HEA. I love this book and highly recommend it.
This is an awesome book so very well written by Ward & Bussiere! This book grabs you from the start and you will not be able to put it down until your finished. It is a great story bringing to light about abuse and depression and overcoming it all. It is full of heartbreak, love & hope and will bring you to tears, make you laugh and wanting more.
I think that this author writes her books in installments because there are so many repeated plot devices. I’ve been binge reading almost all of the books and when you read them back to back you notice she recreates scenes by tweaking the characters names and the plot lines. For example..ringing phones that stop sex cold..happens every book, student/professor relationships happened in two books. Using the same phraseology such as pixystix references, you what now? maybe there are tons more. Her adamant use of the word “snigger”...not one author that I’v3 read has used that word. It’s not a word I would even say out loud even if I had impeccable enunciation. Would you say that word out loud and in public? It’s a dead word and yet all of her characters snigger. Rethink your use of this word...would you scream it out loud?
I read the other reviews and decided to give this a chance anyway. It was as everyone else has commented. Not an in-depth story, not a lot of character development, and the ending comes fast, leaving a lot of things unresolved. My biggest issue is the writing seems a little juvenile and it’s not the dorky gamer language that makes it juvenile, it’s just the overall writing that seems like a brief, high altitude summary.
4.5 Stars - Kia and Graham’s story is good. I enjoyed watching their relationship blossom from friendship to lovers. It was sad, sweet and funny. My biggest complaint...it didn’t feel finished. I even checked to see if there was a part 2.
It was sweet, until it wasn't. Seriously what was up with that ending?
There was a pretty Titanic beginning where Kia is about to commit suicide and Jack - I'm sorry, GRAHAM stops her.
Anyway back to the end.
Kia tells the public about her abusive household when she donates cash to Graham's mothers domestic abuse/support centre revealing her depression.
Q: Her abusive father and mother? Are they exposed, reputation ruined? Do they get revenge on her? Do they become poor? Do they hire a hit man to kill her and Graham and Lori? Does her dad pull a gun to her head one day when he finds her? Is he rotting in jail??...
Why do her parents mistreat her? Why are they so power-hungry? Why did they have her?
What happens to the sleeze-ball Steven? Should he be a mayor? What about his relations with her family? What was the point of his role? The motive?
What happens with Mindy? Is she in rehab? Is she okay? She was a crack addict lesbo in love with Kia.
What happened to the asshole in the past who played both Kia and Alison leading to Alison's death? Where did he go? Did he even love her? Was he an opportunist? Why did he do it?
Extension q: Does Alison's family hate Kia for what she did?
Does Lilah get over Graham? Does she find love? She helped out Kia.
What about Graham? He is so capable, smart, given the chance to go to MIT which he couldn't take because of Lori and becoming an orphan? Is he meant to wait on people the rest of his life doing a dead end job? Does he go back into education, and make something of himself? Start up a business? Go into engineering?
Do her and Graham start a family? Does she formally adopt Lori? Do they have ANY problems in the future (money or otherwise I.e her depression returning because shit like that doesn't just GO AWAY)?
Ok so why only two stars? well I'll tell you but let me tell you first, the synopsis for what the book is about is far from what the story actually is.
This is a sweet NA about a socialite who's the only daughter of one of the most power families around and they make her do despicable things in order for the family to remain on top. When all seems lost, a man who's been looking out for her all along, reaches out and saves her (literally). He's a waiter, she's an heiress - should be the beginning to a wonderful story, right? *shrugs* Yes and no. The two become secret friends along with a sweet little girl until the socialite's family finds out, then all hell breaks loose. Unfortunately, this is where the story looses me. There is a HEA but I was left with more questions then answers. To be perfectly honest, once I finished the book, I looked it up again waiting for there to me more books to come like this was a series or something rather then a standalone but it's not. Seriously for me, the book ended on more of a cliffy then a well rounded, start to finish, romance.
*scratches head* It literally just ended abruptly with lots of loose ends. Story plots that were sown but never flowered and lots of just useless trails that lead no where. If you don't want spoilers, stop here because I gotta get these questions out.
Dude I could totally keep going but I'll just leave it here. On to the next!
